Not Enough Plates

Summary:

It's time for Megumi and Yuji's families to have dinner together! Hopefully, nothing goes wrong. Right?

Notes:

So... I got sick... so... This is late for ItaFushi Week 2026 on Tumblr, but now that I'm feeling better, I finished it and now it's here!

Few things before you read!

Harumi is the name I gave to Megumi's mother and Tsumiki is still Megumi's sister here. It's not mentioned in the fic, but she's adopted into the family.

This also takes place in my Art College AU. It's a standalone story, but you can read "Affection Whispered from Icy Lips" (the last chapter of Strawberry Pink Hair, Jade Green Eyes) and "I Think I'll Dropout" since they go along with this fic.

Using the Prompt(s): Meeting the Family, College AU

Work Text:

"You have to promise you will be on your best behavior."

Megumi did not appreciate the eye roll and sigh he got in response to his request.

"I'm serious. You have to promise to be on your best behavior. Do not embarrass me."

Toji stands up from the kitchen table and walks over to the coffee machine. He pours himself a cup of the freshly brewed coffee. "Whenever have I embarrassed you?"

"I can think of a couple of times."

Toji whips around to look at his wife. Harumi was at the stove, preparing breakfast. She could feel his glare and had started humming to stop her laughter, flipping eggs. Megumi had coughed behind his hand and looked away when Toji glared his way.

"Hey, I am not an embarrassment!"

"You aren't, sweetie." Harumi cuts off the stove and walks over to him. "But, you can be a lot sometimes." She giggles and playfully pats his cheeks. "It's cute though."

"Mom, don't tell him that." Megumi scowls. "So, you'll be coming?"

"Of course, sweetie. And your father will be on his best behavior."

"You, too."

"Megumi!"

Toji laughs. "So I'm not the only one? The flour incident at the store? When—"

"I can't wait to meet Yuji's family! I'm sure they're just as delightful as he is!" Harumi's face had pinken just a bit. Quickly, she sets up plates on the table while Megumi got the bowls. "I wonder what should we bring to the dinner. Flowers? Sweets?"

"What dinner? What's going on?" Tsumiki had joined them in the kitchen, dressed for the day. She sits by Toji who retook his seat at the table. "It's not the Zenin again, is it?"

"Goodness no!" Harumi shakes her head. "Yuji's family had invited us to have dinner with them this weekend!"

Tsumiki looks at Toji. He quirks up an eyebrow. "What?"

"You won't say anything weird, will you?"

"Betrayed by my whole family."

That Sunday had came. The four members of the Fushiguro family had found themselves standing outside of the gate of the Itadoris' residence. They had been there for the past five minutes. The reason being that Megumi was lecturing the other three.

"I am serious. Do not do anything embarrassing. I would like to keep dating Yuji."

"Megumi, we won't do anything to jeopardize your relationship with my future son-in-law!" Harumi promises, putting on her best smile. "We even dressed our best for you!" She spins, showing off her plum colored long sleeved dress. Like her, Tsumiki and Toji also wore their best.

Tsumiki also wore a dress with short sleeves and settled on a turquoise color. Toji wore a white dress shirt and ash grey slacks. He almost wore his hair slicked back but they all agreed that his normal style looked less odd on him.

Megumi sighs. "Okay, are you ready?"

"Yes. I'm starving."

He eyes Toji, but doesn't say anything. He leads them pass the gate and to the front entrance of the home. Just before they could reach the front door, it opens and out steps Yuji with a big smile on his face. At that moment, one thought crosses each of the Fushiguros' minds.

'I need sunglasses.'

"Megumi, you made it!" Yuji hugs Megumi tightly, arms locked around his neck while Megumi embraces him around his back. They don't part yet as Yuji addresses his family. "I'm glad you came tonight. It's good to see you again!"

"It's good to see you as always. Thank you for having us." Harumi holds up a container she brought with her. "And I brought dessert! Is that okay?"

"More than. Come inside! My parents really are excited to meet you." Yuji leads them in the home, holding Megumi's hand. "My grandfather also is here with us. I warn you, he may seem a little grumpy, but he's a big softie. Luckily for you, he's in a good mood today."

"Why's that, if you don't mind me asking?" Tsumiki questions, neatly placing her shoes to the side and putting on the slippers provided.

"Watched the boat race today. Placed a bet with a buddy and won."

At that, Toji's eyebrows seem to touched his hairline. "Bets, huh? He gambles?" He misses the way Harumi bore her eyes into his back, all while grinning.

"Occasionally."

"I think I'll like this old man."

"Toji Fushiguro, if you make one—"

"Oh, they're here! Welcome!"

Before them standing at the threshold of the den room is a man and woman who definitely were Yuji's parents.

The man was just an older version of his son, his pink hair lacking the dark undercut and less spiky. He also wore dark rounded glasses in front of his honey brown eyes. While it is evident that Yuji inherited most his physical features, his charming nature had definitely came from his mother.

She was a beauty with rose painted lips and deep black hair she kept cut short in a bob that favored the left. Peaking from under her bangs was a very faint stitch-like scar that only went halfway across her forehead. Despite how dark her eyes were, they sparkled like the midnight sky filled with stars. She had been the one to speak, stepping forward to the Fushiguro family.

"I'm so glad to see you have made it! I'm Kaori and this is my husband Jin."

"We're glad to finally have met you." Jin greets, coming to stand beside his wife. "We really been looking forward to this day." They bow to Toji and Harumi who returns the gesture. That's when Megumi noticed.

He grimaces seeing his parents exchange a glance between each other before grins spread across their faces. Toji is the first to step up with a hand out.

"Toji Fushiguro. This is my wife, Harumi Fushiguro." When Jin accepts his hand, he gives it a form shake. "We've been looking forward to this day, too."

"I brought dessert, too!" Harumi giggles. Her eyes roam up and down at the couple. "Although, I'm sure it's not as sweet as—"

"And this is my sister, Tsumiki." Megumi places Tsumiki before Toji and Harumi, trying to put block them from Jin and Kaori. Comically, Tsumiki isn't all that tall so they were still able to flash their grins at the couple. He mouths "Behave" to both of them and takes the container away from Harumi.

Tsumiki bows to the other couple. "It's a pleasure to meet you both. Yuji spoke so highly of you."

"That's Yuji for you. He's such a sweet boy." Kaori coos, pinching at Yuji's cheek. His ears turn red and he whines. "Megumi is, too."

"Oh, really? He's been a disaster since he's been born."

"Lies."

"But he's our disaster and we love him all the same." Harumi reaches up to ruffle Megumi's spikes, the hairstyle inherited from her. "Oh! Yuji also mentioned his grandfather would be here?"

"Dad is in the den. Watching a horse race, I believe. You can join him, if you would like." Jin offers. "We'll be there in a few minutes with drinks."

"Yuji, come help in the kitchen?" Kaori requests and Yuji follows with a nod. Jin takes the others into the room where Wasuke was. He had been watching the television.

"Our guests are here, Dad."

"My hearing still works fine, you know."

"Dad!"

The older man lets out a heavy sigh and stands up. "I'm going to be polite!" He turns around and rounds the sofa towards the Fushiguro family. "It's good to meet you. I'm Wasuke Itadori."

"My father." Jin adds. "He's just a little upset because we interrupted his show."

"Race, Jin. And I have to pay attention. I have a bet to win and I have to see the exact moment I do so I call that damned Itou! She's been laughing in my face since our last bet."

Before Jin said anything to that, Toji spoke up. "You know, I have a bit of interest in races and bets, too."

"Toji—"

"Oh?" Wasuke questions, a bushy gray eyebrow quirked up. He points to the television. "Which horse would you bet on?"

Before they could blink, both men were seated on the couch and captured in by the race and engrossed in a conversation. Megumi sighs and pats his mother on the shoulder. "Well, let's leave them to it."

As they walk away, Jin chuckles and shakes his head. "Dad made a new friend. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing."

"Maybe both." The other three Fushiguro chorused. They had a good feeling the Itadori household would have another frequent visitor.

Harumi clears her throat to catch their attention. "Excuse me, could you tell me where the bathroom is?"

"I can show her." Megumi offers.

"That's kind of you. I'll take your sister to the kitchen and we'll be waiting right there." Jin says.

Megumi nods and then guides Harumi away. He leads her down a hallway pass the staircase. He had an uneasy feeling. Something was itching the back of his brain and sending warning signals.

"Megumi, darling..."

He stops, wincing at the tone. That is Harumi's tone when she is upset about something. Her voice lost her usual chipper, dropping an octave or two. Slowly, he turns and comes to meet her glare.

"Yes?"

"Why didn't you tell us?"

"Tell you what?" He yelps and takes a step back when she practically jumps him, slapping her hands onto his shoulders. "Mom!" Harumi shakes him with all her strength and it makes Megumi want to vomit. "Moooom!"

"How could you not tell us how precious the Itadoris are?! Even the grandfather is charming!" She lets him go to grab onto her own hair. "I never wanted to become to kidnap someone so badly until I saw that woman! I should have known! Yuji is also very precious and pretty! Of course, he gets it from his mother!" She grabs Megumi by his shirt and pulls him closer. "I need her."

Megumi didn't want her to elaborate on that. "... okay..." He pries her hands off and places them at her sides. "Mom, maybe you should calm down?"

"How can I? You have betrayed me! Hogging all that goodness for yourself! I never wished so badly to be best friends with a woman that I also had a sapphic experience with in high school before today!"

"What is going on with you?"

"I don't know!" Harumi wails. "I want to be on my knees for her."

"Mom, you do remember that you're married, right?"

"Happily so!"

"And to be fair, Jin is quite a looker, too." Megumi whips his head around to see Toji standing there, hands in his pockets. "Trust me, son, your mom and I are on the same wavelength here. Kind of want to spoil them with all the money the Zenin keeps giving me."

"It would put it to good use for something. They're worth it!" Harumi giggles.

Megumi wonders how did he end up with these two as his parents. Then again, he really doesn't have any room to talk. The moment he laid eyes on Yuji he wanted nothing more than to make him his. Thank goodness for that play!

A little later, the two families sat around the dining table once all the food was set down. They said their prayer and gave thanks for the food before plating and digging in.

Harumi had took in a piece of chicken and savored the flavor. Her taste buds tingled from the slight spice and crisp of the coating. "Oh, my! This chicken is quite delicious!"

"Thank you, Miss Harumi." Yuji smiles.

Kaori, sitting next to him on his right, pats his shoulder. "Yuji here cooked it."

Harumi narrows her eyes at Megumi, who had chosen to sit on Yuji's other side. "Megumi, don't mess up with this one, okay?" She very much would like to keep Yuji as her future son-in-law. Luckily for her, Megumi plans to not mess up any time soon. Even if he did, like his father, his mother would still make her way over here to the Itadori family home.

"The food really is amazing." Tsumiki praises. "The soup has a bit of ginger in it, right?"

"You don't mind, do you? I remember Yuji telling me how Megumi likes ginger." Kaori says. Yuji flushes a bit from that while Megumi gave him an adoring look. "It's not too much, is it?"

"No, no! Not at all! It's just right, Mrs. Itadori."

"Thank goodness!"

Harumi promised herself to make that woman her new best friend by the end of the night.

"How's that project of yours coming along, boys?" Jin asks, passing a plate of tempura over Wasuke at his left.

"Project?" Toji questions.

Megumi takes a sip of his water. "Yeah. Remember I was telling you about the recent short film we're working on." He had a feeling Toji had not been paying attention at that time.

"We're doing fine so far." Yuji states. "Have the camera equipment and costumes. Megumi finished the script about two days ago. Right?"

"Yeah. We decided to do something horror. A classic ghost story."

"Yuji, will you be acting in it?" Tsumiki asks.

He nods. "Yes! I'm the main character."

"You know, I always have imagined my boy would be getting into making movies!" Kaori coos, punching Yuji's cheek. "You always had that big imagination!" She looks to the other couple. "You know, Yuji loved playing pretend when he was little. Pretended to be anything! A tiger, a superhero, you name it! Once he pretended to be a magical girl named Moon who—"

"Uncle had read over Megumi's script and actually praised him!" Yuji interrupts. "Speaking of, I thought he and Takako would be here tonight."

"I thought they would be here, too." Wasuke grumbles after swallowing down his soup. He sat at one end of the table on Megumi's left. On the other side of the table, on Wasuke's left was Toji. "What did Sukuna say again about why he wouldn't be here?"

"Well, Takako had thought for the first dinner we have together should just be us. Didn't want to overwhelm the Fushiguros." Jin states. He smiles at Harumi and Toji. "But she and Sukuna would love to join us next time. Of course, if you want another dinner."

"YES, WE WOULD." The couple blurts. Tsumiki chuckles and pats her mother's shoulder.

"Don't mind them. They just like you, is all."

"Oh, we like you, too!"

"You have no idea what you've done." Megumi mutters, shaking his head and closing his eyes. "Miss Kaori... why would you say that?"

"You said something, Megumi?"

He clears his throat and sits up straighter. "No, ma'am. It's nothing."

Yuji decided to pick up the conversation. "You know, had I not choose to go to that college when we moved here from Sendai, I probably would be interning at a lab right now."

"Oh? Like, medical?"

He nods.

To their surprise, Kaori's smile dropped. Her expression looked like a mix of all emotions that weren't happiness. "Yeah. While Yuji has quite a talent for arts, my sibling had insisted he would be following in my footsteps. I'm a pharmacologist and I work at the Kamo Labs."

"I used to do security work there." Toji says. "For about two years before transferring somewhere else. I have been thinking about transferring back."

"Hey, if you do, you would probably run into Kaori. Especially now. She's been busier than usual." Jin says. He places his hand on top of hers. "I'm surprised you're even awake right now."

"My excitement won." Kaori jokes, smiling again. "With Father stepping down and giving the head position to Kenjaku, things have been a little busier though."

"That Kenjaku... something else, aren't they?" Wasuke grumbles, crossing his arms.

"Kenjaku is a handful, but they mean well."

"Supposedly."

"Anyways!" Kaori gives her attention to Tsumiki. "Is there anything you're doing right now, dear? Special hobbies? Career path you're taking?"

"I work at the local library. And I also take classes on engineering." Tsumiki answers before taking a bite of her chicken. "I like figuring out the inner workings of a machine, you know?"

"Been my number one assistant in fixing the car since forever." Toji praises. "Give her a wrench and anything broken and I guarantee you it will work better than when you first brought it."

Tsumiki blushes and places a hand on her cheek. "Dad, stop, you're embarrassing me."

"That is nothing new."

"My own son once again betraying me."

Suddenly, there was a loud slamming of a door opening and closing and the ruffling of shoes. It startled the group and the first ones up were Yuji, Kaori with a knife in her hand, Toji and Harumi.

"Just who could that—"

"Kaori, baby sister, where are you?"

At that, Kaori jumps over the table, miraculously not knocking anything over and rushes out the dining room. All while still holding the knife.

"I THOUGHT I SAID NOT TONIGHT, DAMN IT! WE ARE HAVING GUESTS!"

"And that's why I came!"

Seconds later, Kaori is carried into the room by someone who looked nearly identical to her. They had longer hair, tied up in a high ponytail and with all their face on full display, the others could see the faint stitch-like scar across their forehead and delicate features. Despite being slightly taller and broader, this person looked like Kaori's copy.

They placed her down and patted her head. "I would love to meet my nephew's beau."

"How did you know...?" Jin questions, looking constipated.

"I have my ways."

Kaori turns to her husband, drops the knife on the table and gestures to the room. "Later, we check the house for cameras." She turns back to her sibling. "Kenjaku, it's their night, okay? We already have family dinners togethers almost every weekend, anyways."

"And it wouldn't hurt to have one more guest."

"There's not enough plates." Wasuke scowls before going back to eating.

"That's fine. I already had dinner." Kenjaku walks over to Wasuke and places their hand on his shoulder. "Wasuke, my sister's dear old father-in-law! Still alive and kicking! How have you been?"

"Could be worse."

"Delightful."

"Kenjaku, not that I don't enjoy your company, but why are you here?" Jin asks, getting up and walking over to them.

"As I said before, Jin, I wanted to meet my favorite nephew's boyfriend. After all, I haven't seen him in a while. You know how I adore Yuji!"

Yuji sighs, hiding his face in his hands. Megumi pats his thigh to comfort him.

Kaori does the same, mumbling something within her palms before dragging her hands down from her face. She walks over to her sibling and smacks her hands hard on their cheeks before pulling at them. Not once do they flinch. Instead just grinning through it all.

"You're too much sometimes." She lets them go and addresses the Fushiguro family. "Everyone, this is my twin Kenjaku Kamo. Kenjaku, this is the Fushiguro family. There's Harumi, Toji, their daughter Tsumiki and finally their son, Megumi who Yuji is dating."

The moment Kenjaku glares Megumi's way, he wanted the floor to swallow him whole and sink into whatever shadows were beneath him. Kenjaku still had their smile, but it was as if it really didn't belong in their face. Their eyes were dark and almost lifeless, opposite of Kaori's more lively gaze.

Still, Megumi kept his composure and stood up. He bows to Kenjaku. "I'm Megumi Fushiguro and as Yuji's boyfriend, I'll do my best to take care of him."

"Please do. He means so much to me. He's like a son to me."

"You already have nine other sons." Yuji whines.

"And you're fortunate enough that they decided to not come here, then you really wouldn't have enough plates." Kenjaku laughs at their own joke. Toji and Harumi also chuckle. "Choso though practically went through having a crisis with himself to decide whether or not to tag along. Eso had to talk him out of it. Sometimes, I believe Eso is the more rational between my two eldest!" They clap once. "Anyways! So you're Harumi and Toji Fushiguro." Kenjaku had gotten a spare pillow to sit on and sat between Wasuke and Toji. "Hm... Fushiguro... That last name is familiar. Wouldn't happened to be the very same Fushiguro family based in Nagoya, right?"

Harumi nods. "Yes, that's the one. I'm from that family."

"Oh, I know a few members from that family. The head of that family happens to be a long time patient. How has he been?"

She shrugs. "To be honest, I'm not so sure. I haven't been to Nagoya or called in such a long time. Although, last time I spoken to any of my family, I heard he has been doing a lot better. I had no idea that he was patient at Kamo Labs."

"Well, one of our hospitals. One of them being in Nagoya. You know of our establishment?"

"I was just telling them about it." Kaori says. By now, everyone was seated back at the table. They knew Kenjaku isn't going anywhere and decided it was best to just continue the dinner.

"I used to work there. As security." Toji adds. "I've been thinking about going back."

Kenjaku taps at their chin. "Hm. You know what, I believe I have seen your face before."

"Probably have. I didn't really have a permanent station. Did more patrolling than anything."

"Perhaps that is it. But your face... you look like someone I know."

Toji takes a sip of his tea. "Well, if you're familiar with any Zenin, then you may see the resemblance. 'Fushiguro' is my married name."

"Oh, you're a Zenin!"

"Yep. Not really blood I am proud to bear though." Toji admits. Despite how dismissive he came off, there was a slight cut of hurt that his family caught. "They're in the past now."

"Anyways!" Yuji shouts, to break the tension before it could fully manifest. "How is dinner so far? Hope you all have room for dessert later."

Kenjaku had not leave. Kaori hadn't expected them to. Oddly enough, despite being a little too much at times, her twin didn't cause as much trouble as she had been expecting. They didn't hover over Yuji and Megumi, who were right now in their own little world at the table they just finished clearing.

Toji had went back to watching races with Wasuke. Tsumiki and Harumi were the ones entertaining Kenjaku at the moment. Kaori had been preparing more tea for everyone, Jin helping her. Being that it was just the couple in the kitchen, her husband had struck up a conversation.

"So, do you like them?"

Kaori chuckles. "Very much. I can see why Megumi is such a good young man. He comes from a loving home." She starts pouring tea in each cup. "I just hope I didn't leave a bad impression earlier. What was I thinking picking up that knife?"

Jin kisses her cheek. "It's okay. It was just instinct and nothing too crazy happened! Besides, I have a good feeling that they like you, too."

"Really?"

"Mhm."

As if to prove him right, Harumi had came into the kitchen with a bounce in her step. She rounded over to Kaori, grinning.

"I was just thinking that when we both have free time we should meet up. Hang out in the town or visit each other. Oh! You should stop by over at our place. You, Jin, and Wasuke. Would love for you to see my garden. The flowers are just in bloom."

Kaori glances at her husband who nods. She turns back to Harumi and reaches forward to grab her hand.

"That would be lovely. We should be free next week."

"Great! I'll make sure to get your number before we leave." With that, Harumi had sprinted out the kitchen calling for her husband. "Toji! I scored!"

"That's great, honey!"

Jin laughs. "And you were worried for nothing."

Those were the same words Yuji had told Megumi at the very moment. They sat knee to knee, Yuji holding Megumi's hands.

"See? They got along just fine, Megumi. Grandpa even has a new friend to watch races with him. He usually is very closed off from people. But he likes your dad."

Megumi exhales, feeling the tension from tonight leave his body. He had been antsy about his family's impression on Yuji's family and now having that confirmation from his boyfriend, he feels he can really relax. He lets himself enjoy the kisses Yuji peppers on his cheek and nose. The gentleness makes Megumi's heart beat a little faster. It's the same gentleness that Yuji handled him with that day when they acted in the play. To think pretending to be a doomed couple pushed them to becoming a real, happy one.

He would pretend to take a blow from Yuta's sword again if it means falling in love and getting together with Yuji all over. If it means having Yuji in his life. Not once in his life have he ever thought he would have someone like him to cherish. Someone so radiant.

"I know you said you'll take care of my nephew, but I would like to know your intentions with him."

Megumi jumps, scooting back from Yuji who had Kenjaku smiling over his head and their hands on his shoulders.

Yuji pouts, tilting his head back. "Must you?"

Kenjaku kisses his forehead. "Yes. Because you're like a son to me."

"I know. You make sure you know."

"It's like I birthed you myself." Kenjaku squeezes Yuji's cheeks and looks back at Megumi, who still kept a bit of a distance. "So, your intentions?"

"Just want to love your nephew, is all." It's the truth. Megumi never been a liar and he wasn't going to start now. Besides, seems like if he said anything else, Kenjaku wouldn't like it. He already had to deal with glares from Professor Sukuna Itadori, Yuji's uncle. "I intend to form a deeper bond with him."

"Hm."

"When did you get so protective?" Yuji whines at Kenjaku. "Can I please have a moment with my boyfriend?"

"You can have those moments when you go back to your college." Kenjaku pinches both of Yuji's cheeks, still eyeing Megumi. "How about marriage? Will you marry my nephew?"

"We're a little too young to be thinking about marriage!" Yuji pries their hands away from his face. "We still have classes and—"

"I was young when I got married and had Choso. It's not a big deal."

"I think that is very much a big deal."

"Kenjaku, Yuji has a point. This is their first year of college and they just started dating. Give them some time first before they even consider that kind of commitment." Kaori had came to the rescue with a tray of beverages and desserts into the dining room. She sets down the tray on the table and flicks her sibling right on the forehead. "You're being too nosy right now."

"If it was demanded you marry Yuji right now, would you do it, Megumi Fushiguro?"

"Why are you still bringing up marriage?" Yuji looks at Megumi. "I'm sorry."

"No need to apologize." Megumi reaches for Yuji's hand. "I would marry you though."

Yuji's heart may have fluttered at the words. No, it certainly did.

"Megumi, who are you marrying?"

The others had joined them in the dining room. It had been Tsumiki to question her brother. Harumi had came up behind her son and placed her hands on his shoulders and squeezed.

"That would be Yuji here, right?"

"Who else would I be talking about?"

"Don't get smart with me, young man."

🍽️

"Tonight was really lovely, Kaori. Thank you for having us."

Kaori gives Harumi a smile and a hug. "And thank you for being here. We're still on for next week?"

"Of course! You have my number."

Even though neither family wanted the night to be over, they all knew it had to come to an end. But just for tonight. Ever since moving to Tokyo from Sendai, from Wasuke's health and to be closer to Sukuna, Jin and Kaori didn't feel just at home yet. While they had friendly neighbors and meet people who were polite, none of them made them feel like their company was truly enjoyable.

Both had been thankful that their son had met Megumi, the first person who made them feel more comfortable with Tokyo. Seeing how he interacted with their son, they knew he would be in good hands. Meeting Harumi, Toji and their daughter Tsumiki had been the final piece of the puzzle.

They now felt complete, less lonely. The thoughts of future visits and hangouts had gave them warmth.

Especially for Kaori. Growing up in the Kamo family, having friends was a luxury. She couldn't hang out with them. Calling and texting were the most she could do and sometimes, that alone felt like a risk. She had been raised to be a lady and told over and over to not disgrace the family name. Meeting Jin had been the greatest thing for her. She had a friend and husband who made her feel like she had a place to go whenever she needed it.

Now, not only she had a beautiful son with Jin and more family that came with him who respected and loved her, but she also has new friends that she couldn't wait to make more memories with.

Megumi is truly a blessing.

"I really hate that we have to go, but it is getting late. The boys need their rest anyways before they have to get back to the college." Harumi whines, turning to Megumi and pinching his cheeks. She does the same to Tsumiki. "Aaaah, I don't want my babies to leave me so soon! Tsumiki, honey, forget your job and classes. Stay with mommy all day!"

Tsumiki giggles. "Ma, you know I can't do that."

"We better get going before it gets too late." Toji reminds them. "Don't want to get caught into traffic."

"Yep, don't want to do that!" Harumi gave Kaori one more hug. "Thank you again for having us."

"You have a pleasant night and a safe trip home!"

Megumi had took Yuji to the side to wish him a good night. He kisses his cheek, holding both his hands. "We're heading back tomorrow together?"

Yuji nods. "Uncle said he can take us back. I know he just want to be nosy about what happened tonight, but I'll take that since we're getting a free ride out of it."

"Hm. First time riding in a teacher's car for me. You think he'll glare at me the whole time?"

"And have me riding in front so we don't bump knees and accidentally get pregnant." They laugh at Yuji's joke, though Megumi had a feeling Sukuna would seriously have Yuji or him be in the passenger seat. He could see it now.

Sukuna glaring at him from the corner of his eye while the tension in the car is thick and uncomfortable. Megumi praying that he makes it back to the campus in one piece.

But a free ride is a free ride.

"I'll take all responsibility."

"I'm sure you would. But for right now, how about our biggest worries be what place we'll go next for our date and projects?"

"I'm okay with that." Megumi gives Yuji one more kiss, a soft one on the lips before joining his family.

The Itadori family watches as the four leave through the gate, already missing the company.

The moment they were gone, Kenjaku had popped up.

"I like them." Their heads turned to stare at them. Kenjaku shrugs. "What? I can't like people?"

Kaori crosses her arms. "Are you playing at something?"

Kenjaku shakes their head. "No."

"Uh huh..."

"Just see there are benefits from the Itadori and Fushiguro families getting along." As in what kind of benefits? Kaori had a good idea that her twin meant something along the lines of business proposals. If Kenjaku saw an opportunity, they took their chances to claim it.

"Kenjaku, remember that what Yuji and Megumi have is personal." Kaori warns, pointing two of her fingers to her own eyes and then one at them. "I'll be watching you. Let Yuji be happy."

"I am, dear sister. I don't intend to getting in the way of that."

Yuji decided to butt in. "Okay, how about we all call it a night like Grandpa did." He walks over to Kenjaku and hugs them. "Get going before Choso comes hunts you down."

"I suppose I should get going." Kenjaku pats his head and then parts ways with the trio. "It was a lovely time! See you later!"

"Be safe, Kenjaku!"

With that, they disappeared around the gate. The trio headed back inside their home and exhaled the moment the door closed behind them.

"Well, nothing caught on fire and we made new friends." Jin states, stretching and then taking off his glasses. He yawns, the exhaustion now finally hitting him. "I say that dinner with the Fushiguros was a success!"

"I am so relieved that it was. Now I can sleep peacefully today." Kaori agrees. She kisses Yuji on the forehead and then head upstairs with Jin following her. "Good night, Yuji. Don't stay up too late now."

"I won't. I'll be heading to bed in a few minutes."

Yuji is left alone. The sudden quiet isn't unwelcomed though. Gave him peace to collect his thoughts and emotions. He sighs, hugging and smiling to himself. Megumi's parents and Tsumiki had already liked Yuji just as Yuji's parents liked Megumi. It was satisfying to see that both families liked each other.

His phone vibrates in his pocket, drawing him out his thoughts. He takes it out and sees he got a message from his boyfriend.

🐺: Mom is already planning our wedding dinner.
🐯: we're still in college 😭
🐺: Never too early to start thinking ahead. I'm thinking a spring wedding would be fine for us.
🐯: Megumi! No!
🐺: We should start making the guest list now. That way we have enough plates for the wedding dinner.

Yuji had a feeling that he would be a married man before he could get his degree.

Notes:

Choso, Kechizu and Eso were going to be in this fic as well as Sukuna and Takako, but I figured Kenjaku would be hectic enough. But it would be funny for them all to interact in a future fic.

Kaori wasn't going to have the stitches, but I thought why not give them to her here to match with Kenjaku since they're twins? The marks are birthmarks! I was going to write a scene explaining that but it just didn't come while I was writing.

But I hope you enjoyed the fic regardless! Would love to know your thoughts! Thank you for reading!
