Chapter Text
The neon glow of your laptop screen was the only light in your apartment at 2:00 AM. It had been one of those heavy, hollow nights where the silence feels a bit too loud, and loneliness starts to ache. Desperate for a distraction—any distraction—you found yourself clicking through an adult webcam site, skipping past the overly manicured, hyper-polished streams until you stumbled upon a room with a surprisingly modest viewer count.
The username was simple: L_Kennedy.
You clicked. Your breath caught.
On the screen was a man with a sharp jawline, effortlessly messy blonde-brown hair that fell into his eyes, and a broad, built frame that looked like it belonged in an action movie, not a dimly lit bedroom. He wasn't doing anything extreme. He was just sitting back in a black leather chair, dressed in a crisp, dark blue R.P.D. police uniform, the silver badge gleaming against his chest under the low light. A slow smirk played on his lips as he read the chat. His voice, when he finally spoke to thank someone for a tip, was a low, gravelly rasp that sent an immediate shiver down your spine.
"Hey there," he had said, looking right into the camera as if he could see you through the screen, the contrast of his official uniform and the intimate setting making the whole thing dangerously intoxicating. "Don't be shy. Staying up late tonight?"
You spent the next two hours completely captivated. He was charming, a little sarcastic, and possessed a quiet, grounded confidence that felt incredibly intimate. You tipped him, he read your username out loud, and the way your name sounded rolling off his tongue ruined you.
Ever since that night, you couldn't get him out of your head. You looked for his stream every night, but his schedule was completely unpredictable. He was a ghost you were hopelessly haunted by.
Fast forward three weeks. You were desperately in need of a change of scenery and a massive dose of caffeine. Wandering down a side street you rarely frequented, you noticed a new storefront: The Ink & Bean. It was a beautiful, cozy hybrid of a bookstore and a coffee shop, lined with dark wood shelves and smelling of rich espresso and old paper.
You walked in, the bell above the door chiming softly. The place was relatively quiet, the ambient hum of a grinder masking your footsteps. You walked up to the counter, scanning the menu, completely lost in thought.
"What can I get started for you?"
The voice was low. Gravelly. Instantly recognizable.
Your eyes snapped down from the menu board to the man standing behind the espresso machine. Your heart did a violent, erratic flip against your ribs.
It was him.
The hair was the same, a few strands blocking his view as he wiped down the counter. Instead of the sharp, imposing police uniform from the screen, he was wearing a dark green barista apron over a gray t-shirt, his muscular forearms on full display, decorated with a few faint, rugged scars. He didn't look like a fantasy on a computer screen anymore; he looked real, and way too handsome in the warm morning light.
You froze, your mind completely short-circuiting. L_Kennedy.
"Uh, everything okay?" he asked, a familiar, amused smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. He leaned forward slightly, resting his hands on the counter. His blue eyes locked onto yours, sharp and attentive. "You look like you've seen a ghost."
"I—uh. Just a drip coffee. Black," you stammered out, your face burning a bright, undeniable crimson. You prayed to whatever cosmic force was listening that he couldn't read the absolute panic and recognition plastered across your face.
He chuckled, a low sound that vibrated right through you. "Black coffee. Classic. Coming right up."
As he turned around to grab a cup, you took a ragged breath, trying to steady your racing pulse. You couldn't stop staring at the line of his shoulders, the way he moved with an easy, practiced grace. You were completely caught off guard. On camera, clad in that uniform, he was an intoxicating escape. In person, standing less than three feet away from you, the attraction was magnetic, tangible, and terrifyingly real.
He turned back around, setting the cup on the counter, but he didn't pull his hand away immediately. He glanced at your blushing face, his eyes softening with a hint of genuine curiosity.
"I'm Leon, by the way," he said, offering a warm, surprisingly gentle smile.
Your throat felt dry. You managed to tell him your name.
Leon’s eyes widened a fraction, a flash of recognition sparking in his blue eyes. The smirk returned, a little more private this time, a little softer. The exact same smirk he gave the camera when you used to tip him.
"Nice to meet you," Leon murmured, his voice dropping an octave as he slid the coffee closer to you. "You know... your name sounds really familiar. I feel like I've heard it somewhere before. Especially late at night."
He gave you a slow, deliberate wink.
Your breath caught. You feel as if a sudden, heavy weight dropped right to the pit of your stomach. Your late-night anonymity was entirely exposed, leaving you bound to a dangerous, unspoken secret.
