Work Text:
Harry’s hand is warm in Theo’s as they traverse the familiar park, their destination coming into view. The late summer air is balmy, the sun sinking lower in the sky as the afternoon whiles away.
They settle onto their bench and Harry casts a discreet cooling charm over both of them.
Theo smirks, turning to arch a brow at the use of magic in a muggle park by the Head Auror.
Harry turns his head to meet Theo’s eye.
“Don’t start.” He says, smile in his tone as he turns back to look out over the pond.
“Start what? I was just going to thank you for cooling us off.”
“Yeah, sure.” Harry says back skeptically, a smile on his lips.
Theo retakes Harry’s hand and shifts closer, their thighs touching. He takes Harry’s hand into both of his, running his fingers absentmindedly over the planes and valleys.
Bones, sinew, muscles, nerves and skin. All under his touch. All belonging to the love of his life.
They chat as they sit, the ritual of regular park visits and swan watching now a favorite past time of theirs. The bench and pond had become their spot. It was where they had gotten to know each other more when they had been best men for Pansy and Neville’s wedding. Where Theo had given over a morsel of personal information to Harry for the first time.
It was the beginning, the progression to now.
Theo pulls in a deep breath and lays his head on Harry’s shoulder and Harry turns to plant a kiss to Theo’s curls.
Harry rambles out more bird facts as Theo smiles and continues to move his fingers over Harry’s skin.
Theo had found himself doing it more and more. It often started absentmindedly and complete without conscious thought, but whenever he held Harry’s hand over the past few months, Theo found himself running his thumb over the fourth finger on Harry’s left hand. He would do it subconsciously at first, then come back to himself, looking down at where his thumb swiped back and forth. It made him think more about the concept, like his soul was trying to clue him in.
He’s yours. Make it official.
A marriage certificate or a ring didn’t make their love any stronger than it already was. He knew that both of them would be perfectly fine continuing as they were until they were old and grey.
And, yet.
There was something about the idea of Harry wearing a ring that displayed a physical symbol of his devotion to Theo. It made his insides warm.
Was he possessive? Maybe. But then again, most Slytherins were. He wanted everyone to know that Harry was his. No doubt or confusion that they were long term and together.
He watches now, as he runs his thumb up from the second knuckle to the third. He changes up his movements every now and again, so as not to make Harry suspicious. He swipes his thumb broadly over the back of Harry’s hand then down another finger.
He thinks what color band Harry might like. He thinks gold would be nice. It would match the wire frames of his glasses and compliment his skin tone. Maybe Theo could have silver, and they could have matching designs but with different types of metal bands.
Harry pulls Theo out of his thoughts with a question and Theo lifts his head to answer. All the while his thumb continues to trace a sought after spot on Harry’s hand.
I get to have this for the rest of my life, he thinks.
----------
It was Sunday.
They had slept late and just finished what was no doubt considered brunch. They now found themselves in the living room with the windows open to let in the summer breeze.
Theo flips to the next page of his novel as Harry reads Quidditch stats in the paper. Theo’s feet rest in Harry’s lap, Harry’s hand wrapped around Theo’s ankle, his thumb swiping absentmindedly over Theo’s ankle bone.
Theo tries to focus in on the writing on the pages before him but finds his mind singular on another matter entirely.
It had been a week since their latest visit to the park and Theo couldn’t stop his brain from thinking about marriage. He thought of it occasionally over the past few months but then he’d get busy with work or other things and it would slip to the back of his mind.
Now, this time, it was different. It was an ever-fixed thought at the forefront of his mind.
He looks up from his book and observes Harry’s side profile. He pulls in a deep breath.
“We should get married.”
He watches as Harry goes deadly still. His hand on Theo's ankle stills and Theo wonders for a moment if he’s even still breathing until Harry starts to slowly turn his head so that their eyes can connect. His bright green eyes blink a few times, face unreadable.
“What did you just say?” Harry asks, voice low.
A beat passes where they just look at each other.
“Marriage. You.” Theo points a finger at Harry, “Me.” Turns his finger back at himself.
Harry blinks at him.
“You know.” Theo continues, “Holy matrimony. Tying the knot.”
Harry shifts in his seat, his upper body twisting slightly to face Theo more. He lowers the newspaper into his lap, and it tumble over his knees and down onto the carpet.
“Are you fucking with me right now?” Harry asks, brows pinched.
Theo huffs a surprised laugh, “No.”
Harry blinks again, his expression a myriad of emotions that compound into a slack jaw and furrowed brows.
“Deadly serious about it actually.” Theo shrugs. His lips twist, fighting a smile at Harry’s reaction, wishing he knew what was going through his wizard’s head.
Harry blinks and shakes his head, like he’s coming out of an imperius curse.
“Theo.” He says quietly. He turns more, the act jostling Theo’s legs as he twists and Theo extricated his feet from Harry's lap, bending his knees and planting his feet on the sofa cushions. “You’re serious?”
Theo nods, apprehension now creeping up his spine. Had he misinterpreted? Had he lost the thread on where they landed with each other.
Theo tilts his head, “Do you not –” he trails off as Harry shifts again on the sofa, leaning towards Theo to crawl between Theo’s legs and over him. His body fits between Theo’s legs and with one hand planted next to Theo’s side, Harry’s other hand flies up to grip at Theo’s face, his lips crashing to Theo’s.
Theo makes a noise of surprise at the action but responds immediately, his lips molding to Harry’s effortlessly. His lips pull tight in a smile at Harry’s enthusiasm. He wraps his arms around Harry’s back, pulling the wizard against him.
He wants to marry me, he thinks, he wants this as much as I do.
Harry breaks the kiss first, peppers Theo’s face with kisses before pulling back just enough so that their eyes can connect.
Theo brings his hands up to place them on either side of Harry’s face. Frames it.
His favorite work of art.
“You want to get married.” Harry grins at him, awe in his voice like he can’t quite believe it.
“Yes, I do. Do you?” Theo asks, tilting his head slightly.
“I do.” Harry nods, the act choppy and enthusiastic.
The phrasing not lost on Theo.
Theo grins.
“Okay, good.” Theo swallows, the apprehension dissipating. “I probably should have planned something grand or –”
Harry shakes his head in disagreement, “No. No. I…this is perfect.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” Harry smiles wide, leans his head forward for a quick kiss, “very us.”
Theo huffs a laugh. Wraps his arms around Harry’s shoulders.
“So, chaotic and ill-planned?” Theo asks and Harry laughs.
“When did you start thinking about…” Harry trails off and Theo fills in.
He shrugs a relaxed shoulder, “a few months ago I think, I didn’t really realize until about a month ago though.”
Harry pulls in a deep breath and Theo feels the act against his own chest. The weight of Harry on top of him comforting.
“Theo,” Harry breathes out, “I was ready to marry you last September. The day we made it official.” He smiles sheepishly, “I just wanted to go your pace.”
Theo’s heart thunders in his chest. His lips twist and he swallows, his eyes darting over Harry’s features. He feels gratitude towards this patient wizard.
He can’t help but joke.
“Oh, you lovveeeee me.” Theo coos, tilting his chin to his chest to look at Harry through his lashes.
“Yes.” Harry rolls his eyes and deadpans.
“Obsessed with me.” Theo playfully hisses, his teeth sinking into his bottom lip, eyes bright.
“Yes.” Harry responds, fighting a smile.
“Since September, huh?” Theo smirks.
“This is going to go to your head, isn’t it?” Harry asks.
“Can’t you see it? It’s already growing three times its size!” Theo states, wrapping his arms around Harry’s ribs, eyes playfully wide, making Harry chuckle.
“Yeah, well, mine will be too over the fact that you asked me to marry you.” Harry says, shifting his weight slightly and bringing a hand up to grasp at Theo’s jaw.
Theo tightens his arms around Harry’s middle as Harry leans up to connect their lips.
They kiss and kiss and kiss. Harry caged between Theo’s arms and legs, their hands and lips eager.
Theo breaks away, breathless.
“So,” he starts, taking in Harry’s bee stung lips and blown pupils, “we’re engaged.”
Harry’s responding smile makes Theo’s heart pound in his chest.
Mine, mine, mine.
Forever, forever, forever.
“Yes.” Harry responds with a grin.
I get to have this for the rest of my life, Theo thinks.
----------
Later that night, they find their way up to their bedroom.
They undress each other slowly, taking their time, now knowing that they have the rest of their lives together to do this.
That it was official.
Harry rocks into Theo, bottoms out with his chest presses to Theo’s back as they lay on their sides. Harry presses his forehead to Theo’s shoulder, collecting his breath as he acclimates. Theo pants, licks his lips and tilts his head back onto the pillows.
Harry lifts his head and gives a small thrust, both of them gasping over the feeling. Theo whines as Harry starts a steady and sure pace. He can’t help but turn his upper body so that they can be more connected. He twists at the waist, snaking his arm around Harry's shoulders to grip at Harry’s back while Harry plants his elbow on the mattress so he can look down at Theo as he rolls his hips. Theo feels the way Harry's strong back muscles move and contract under his fingertips.
The shift in position brings their faces closer and Theo’s head falls back, body shifting with each thrust that Harry gives him, and Theo accepts it enthusiastically, their bodies meeting again and again, perfectly.
They take it slow, stretch the act out as long as they can so that it’s sensual and languid. Until they’re sweaty and breathless, eyes awe filled as they stare at each other in the low warm light of their bedroom.
With one hand clutching Harry’s back for stability, Theo can’t help but bring his other hand up to grasp at the side of Harry’s face as their bodies shift repeatedly.
Blue and green clashing with equal intensity. Twin flames.
“Gods, fuck,” Harry huffs out as he drops his head for a moment. Theo clutches at the black strands of Harry’s hair and Harry releases a whimper. Theo releases his fingers and trails his hand down to clutch at Harry’s jaw, forcing his head up so that their eyes can connect. “Fuck, I love you.” Harry breathes out.
Theo takes in his bright green eyes, pupils blown, brows pinched with exertion and love. The black hair at his temples damp.
“I love you.” Theo moans out then gasps as Harry repositions them slightly, causing his cock to drive in deeper. To hit a spot in Theo that has him breathlessly moaning.
“Harry.” Theo moans out, the sounds of their bodies meeting over and over filling the quiet bedroom, driving his arousal higher.
“I’m here, Theo.” Harry breathes out, “I’m yours.” He turns his head to kiss at Theo’s hand.
Theo whines out a breath, “Mine.”
“Yes.” Harry hisses out. “Forever. For as long as you’ll have me.”
Theo gives a choked gasp, slides his hand up the side of Harry’s face and into his hair. He tries to pull Harry down for a kiss and Harry endeavors to give it to him, stretches his body up so that their lips can connect for a moment. It causes Harry’s cock to push in a deep as it can go and Theo gasps against Harry’s lips, his whole body aching. An ache only Harry could sate. The tight band of arousal taut inside of him, teetering on the precipice of snapping.
“Yours.” Theo smiles against Harry’s lips and Harry pulls back to stare down at him, an expression Theo saw all the time, only ever directed at him and one he could only describe as awe.
“Mine.” Harry responds, voice low and hoarse and filled with emotion as he rolls his hips, a little harder, a little more desperate, like he can show Theo how much he loves him. Like words aren’t enough and he needs to use them in conjunction with his actions. Like he can surround and fill Theo with it.
And Theo feels it. Every day.
It's in the way that Harry cooks him breakfast. When he asks Theo about his current read and listens in rapt attention. Every day, little moments and actions and words that compound to an abundance of love that sometimes still astounds Theo. Even now as Harry's hands, words, lips and cock try to show and tell Theo how much he loves him, Theo feels a sense of overwhelm. The realization that this is all for him. That someone loves him this much. That Harry will love him like this for the rest of their days. That they found each other.
Theo’s fingertips dig into the flesh of Harry’s broad shoulders as Harry pushes Theo’s thigh up towards his chest.
They both makes desperate noises at the shift of position. The deepening, the pressure.
Theo huffs out a breath and drops his head back onto the pillows and Harry seizes the opportunity to lower his head to suck at the skin of Theo’s chest. He trails his lips down, pausing to kiss at the H tattoo on Theo’s side, then licks a path up Theo’s sweaty skin to suck on Theo’s collarbone.
“My fiancé.” Harry hums into Theo’s skin and Theo can’t help but close his eyes and smile at the statement. A moan escapes Theo's lips. He loves when Harry positions and contorts his body just how the Head Auror wants. How when he’s desperate enough and wants to be on top, that he takes Theo exactly how he wants with authority, passion, reverence and adoration.
I get to have this for the rest of my life, Theo thinks.
He sighs out a choppy breath. The exhale punctuated with each of Harry’s deep thrusts.
Theo makes an approving noise, “Fiancé.” He says back. He opens his eyes to meet Harry’s.
Harry smiles down at him, his elbow on the mattress propping him up. He looks down and brings his other hand up to ghost his thumb over the H tattoo and Theo smiles at the act. Harry trails his hands down to grip at the base of Theo’s cock. He squeezes, eliciting a whine from deep in Theo’s throat. Harry keeps his thrusts hard but slow. It's a torturous drag out, Harry’s girth that stretches him deliciously a slow loss, but before Theo can miss it fully, Harry gives a strong push back in. Harry's hand trails up and down Theo’s cock, matching the pace of his thrusts.
Theo succumbs to it. Tries to anchor himself with his fingers, a desperate attempt to stay afloat as the waves of pleasure mount. He clings to Harry like his life depends on it, knowing that Harry will carry him over the edge perfectly. He gives himself over to the pleasure, relinquishes control over to Harry.
His fiancé.
And Harry does. He carries Theo up and pushes him over the edge in a beautiful and breathless crescendo. A climax that has Theo releasing a drawn out and guttural moan. A climax that has him going rigid in Harry’s hold, mouth agape and eyes rolled back as his orgasm rockets through him.
Harry follows right after, never far behind. He bites into the flesh of Theo’s shoulder and gives a desperate whimper, his eyes pinched shut as he grips Theo against him and empties into him.
Theo lays loose and pliant in Harry’s arms as Harry’s hands roam. They relax into the embrace, boneless on the mattress as they come down and their breathing slows.
Harry finally pulls his softened cock out of Theo and with a parting kiss to Theo’s cheek goes into the bathroom.
Theo vaguely registers running water. He listens to it, the sound lulling him to sleep until it stops and the mattress shifts next to him.
Theo peeks one eye open to find Harry smiling down at him.
“I drew my fiancé a bath.” He says softly, his eyes cataloguing Theo’s face.
“Wow,” Theo says dreamily, “What a lucky wizard.” Theo smiles and opens his eyes more.
Harry hums, tilting his head left and right in consideration, “I think I’m the lucky one.”
Theo smirks and reaches up to ghost a finger over Harry’s facial features, before sitting up and following Harry into the bathroom.
----------
They stare down at the silver and gold bands sitting atop a cushion on the counter. Music plays through the speakers of the muggle jewelry shop showroom.
It had been the fourth shop they had stopped into when they had started ring shopping. They wanted to find the perfect pair. Ones that felt like them.
They had decided on a design and were now back at the shop a few weeks later to pick up their engagement rings.
They had both agreed that they wanted each other to have a ring. Both wanting to display their devotion. They also wanted them to match in some way.
They had landed on an inlaid gem design. Harry’s band gold and Theo’s silver. Both with blue and green gem inlay around the band. They were subtle but with enough show to be deemed an engagement ring and not a wedding band. It was auror field approved, so that Harry could wear it all the time and wouldn’t need to take it off.
Theo reaches out and takes hold of the gold band, feels the weight of it between his fingers. Rolls it around his palm as he turns to face Harry. Harry wordlessly holds his left hand out for Theo to take, and with a smile Theo slips the fitted gold ring onto Harry’s fourth finger. He bites his bottom lip at the sight.
His eyes flit up to find Harry’s eyes already on him. Harry’s face splits into a grin that Theo reciprocated. Harry then reaches over and lifts the silver matching band off the pillowed surface and holds out a hand for Theo’s.
Theo lifts his hand without hesitation and watches as Harry slips the ring onto his ring finger.
A perfect fit, it’s twin securely on Harry’s matching finger.
Theo fights the urge to release a giddy laugh. Instead, with his ring adorned hand he reaches up to grasp at the side of Harry’s face and pulls it to meet his.
Harry laughs into the kiss, the noise elated, giddy and strong, their lips tight as they share a smiling kiss in the middle of the jewelry store.
I get to have this for the rest of my life, Theo thinks.
----------
Later, when they see their friends and share their news.
When they’re surrounded by their loved ones and idle conversations.
Theo will fiddle with the gold band adorning Harry’s ring finger. A spot once empty, now with a ring that matches the one on his left hand.
And he can't help but think to himself once again, I get to have this for the rest of my life.
