Notes:

I straight up forgot to give this fic a summary originally so I had to add one later, so if you don't remember that being here before that's why

Chapter Text

V stared at the currently empty shell of a Untrained Neural Network, the egg like object sat carefully positioned to avoid any potential damage, currently completely unoccupied by any coding whatsoever.

The smaller purple drone sat with a laptop, typing like her life depended on it, was trying to change that. The laptop cables snaked around, connected to the three drones sat around the table, with a fourth cable connecting it to the empty shell lying on the table. The three drones sitting around were all experiencing a mix of reactions, N was his usual overjoyed self, but with a mix of nervous anticipation, while Uzi was deep in concentration. The only emotions V couldn’t identify easily were her own.

The entire situation didn’t feel real, they’d been dating for a good few years but this was a huge step for all of them, and the emotions swirling in V’s head especially were very complicated, and resulted in her trying to scan the room for anything that could distract her, Uzi closed her laptop with a sigh of relief and the bar on the UNN visor lit up with a slow moving progress bar.

“Whelp that's the hard part over with at least, now all we have to is wait” The worker exclaimed after closing the lid, the progress bar ticking up to 1% as she does. N is practically vibrating in excitement, the entire process had been a slog, trying to remove the solver code from all three of them as.

The tail of the golden coloured drone sat across from V was wagging at terminal velocity, how he was always so optimistic despite everything that they’d both been through was beyond V. She wished she could say the same about herself. At first she had been apprehensive about putting their coding into a kid, worried that they could potentially transfer her and N’s oil thirst, or even worse Uzi’s full solver.

That was why Uzi had been typing code into her laptop for the past 2 hours, only breaking when N made her take an oil break. V would have been sceptical of this working if it was anyone other than Uzi doing it, she knew more about the solver than any other live being in the galaxy and she was the one of the only two drones in the universe that V would trust with her coding.

However, as the progress bar ticked up, now reaching 35%, the previously buried worries started to run back to the forefront of V’s mind. What if the solver code was hidden and Uzi missed it? Or what if there’s some quirk of Disassembly drone design that prevents the code from taking? Or what if Cyn managed to type something in from the tail without them noticing?

V tried to keep herself but it was evident that Uzi and N could tell something was weighing on her, both drones slowly approaching her side of the table, careful not to pull or tangle the cables connecting them to the object on the table, currently sitting at 40%.

“Hey V, are you doing okay?” N probed, concern already clear in his voice. It still managed to sting V that he cared for her this much when she obviously didn’t deserve it. The purple drone moved closer to V, carefully adjusting the wires as she did to avoid disconnecting any.

“Something's clearly bothering you, I can tell so don’t even try to hide it like you always do” The shorter drone said, pushing closer as an attempt to intimidate V into actually talking about her emotions. Logically this shouldn’t work, Uzi being so much shorter than V that she actually had to crane her neck up to look, but for whatever reason it always worked on V.

The taller drone standing next to her spoke up next, worry evident in his voice “V don’t go hiding your emotions, we’ve all talked about why we shouldn’t do that”. He was right. Both in terms of that they had talked about not hiding there emotions, and that she should definitely stop hiding her emotions. But, as always, it was easier said than done.

The visor ticked up again, hitting 63% this time, V’s concerns burning more intensely than ever before, and with the concern in the visors from the two loves of her life, she pushed through the wall of emotional stagnation and spoke.

“I’m just… what if it doesn’t work? What if Cyn messed up our code too bad? What if it fails and it just overheats as soon as it boots?! What if the solver gets into it an-” Uzi cuts her off “V, just breathe, you’re safe, and you don’t need to worry I’ve got the code handled. You know I wouldn’t put this through if it wouldn’t work”. V slows her thoughts to a reasonable level, venting her core to release the heat that had built up already, a slight wave of ease washing over her processer, but not completely shooing away the incessant noise of her own doubts towards all of this.

The visor ticks up to 78%, V takes a sigh and speaks up again “I know that I shouldn’t worry, but I just can’t help it, I feel like my life shouldn’t be this good, that I’m just waiting for karma to get me and that its all gonna come crashing down or you’ll both realise that you’re better off without m-” V is broken off by N hugging her, shortly followed by Uzi.

“V, I’ll never leave you, please don’t think I don’t love you, I want you with me and Uzi” N says after practically throwing himself into the hug, tears welling up slightly in his visor “Same you big dork, don’t go thinking we don’t love you just because you messed up a bit before, there’s no force on earth that can stop us loving you!” Uzi proclaims in her overly exaggerated voice, eliciting a laugh from V, as she goes to join the hug.

A ding rings out from behind the trio, alerting them to the final stage of the transfer being complete. None of them dare to move beside turning to watch the final step of the processes. A swirl of colours encompasses the visor, the OS trying to decide the best colour for the young drone, colours rotating like a kaleidoscope around were the eyes would eventually form until finally coalescing into round oval shapes, the trio waited with bated breath, curious to see which colour it would settle on.

The eyes finally played their opening animation revealing….

Rainbows! The eyes were swirling with a light, one that none of them had ever seen on any drone before, the colour reflecting off the shocked expressions of the newly born drone’s parents. Uzi was the first to break the silence “Huh, never seen a baby do that before”. The other two drones stared at her, shocked at her seemingly apathetic tone.

“What do you mean you’ve never seen it before?! Could this mean that the code is bad, what if this means something bad has happened to our kid?” V exclaimed, trying to hide her worry with anger, but all of that instantly melted with a small sound.

A small giggle emanating from the right of the room, startling the two drones who looked in the direction of the noise, which, as it turned out, was coming from the arms of their boyfriend, who had picked up the baby drone when the two weren’t looking.

“They’re so beautiful” N spoke, keeping his voice quiet, seemingly in awe at the small pill shaped drone resting in his arms. A quiet broke through the noise that had previously erupted between the purple and yellow drones in the other corner of the room.

Uzi and V tentatively approached the coddled baby in N’s arms, both could hardly believe it was real, their baby was here, living and venting in their boyfriends arms.

The little tender drone rested, its rainbow eyes continuing to glisten and oscillate between the different colours as its parents looked in at it.

Uzi spoke up first, breaking the quite that had fallen upon the trio “What do you think we should call them?”. The question produced a ripple through the thoughts of the other two, neither sure on what name they should call the bundle of cable and joy lying peacefully between them.

“Shouldn’t we try to figure out what’s causing the rainbow eyes? What if its connected to something important within their OS?” V butted in, worry lessened but not removed completely. Uzi shook her head “The visual aspects of the code don’t really effect anything important, its why I didn’t think to check them when going through out OS’ for the neural base, plus why wouldn't my child have a super unique main character attribute?”

V fake grumbled at that, “of course you’d see it that way”, but there was no bite to anything. The three were all calm, slowly passing the small body between them, N spoke up, still staring contently at the baby as he passed it into V’s arms

V was taken by a wave of emotions as the tiny machine was gently moved into her arms. A sense of calm mixing seamlessly with the sudden desire to protect the small being resting within her arms, only exemplified when the baby settled down and started displaying [Sleep Mode] on it’s visor.

“Kaleidoscope” Uzi spoke softly, disrupting the quiet, “I think we should call them that, I mean”. Her voice was a lot quieter than it usually was, her energy lowering in order to not disturb the sleeping pill baby.

V piped up with a question, “Wouldn’t that be a bit of a mouthful to say? I don’t want us to have to say that every time we need their attention”. N spoke up next, his voice still chipper from everything happening, “What if we call them K for short, like me and V’s names?”

“What is they get bullied for having a weird name? I really wouldn’t want to be responsible for that” V responded, worry that had left her voice before creeping back in. “V they’ll have two killing machines and a god for parents, anyone willing to bully them has a terminal case of the stupids.”

A monotone voice suddenly piped up from behind Uzi “And don’t forget their Eldritch Destroyer of Mankind for an Aunt [Giggle]”. The three rolled their eyes at this. Initially it had been very stressful whenever Cyn spoke around them, but as time passed and all the threats Cyn gave proved empty, she now amounted to just a minor nuisance for the three.

“Cyn if I find out you tried to talk to my child I’ll shove the nearest object so far down your creepy throat that I will taste it” Uzi snapped back at the creepy abomination that had refused to get out of her code, leading Cyn to grumble before retreating to the deeper recesses of Uzi’s coding.

The three eventually decided to head to their bed, bringing along the small UNN, as the three drifted off into sleep, the air conditioning unit working in overdrive to keep up with two disassemblers and a solver user, V couldn’t help but feel the reality of the situation sink in, she had a child now, how was she going to care for it? As N stirred in his rest, unconsciously moving over to hug her, a second realisation dawned on her.

It wasn’t just her child, it was Uzi and N’s as well, and maybe, together, they could hack together about ¾ of what most would consider a normal childhood for Kaleidoscope.
