Chapter Text
“Life is a mystery….”
Logan & Wade were in the middle of their weekly trip to the grocery store, when Madonna’s Like a Prayer started playing over the speakers. Logan hadn’t heard it since he and Wade were connected to the Time Ripper. That had been an experience not like anything he had been through before, which considering his age, was saying a lot. They had ended up sharing a single consciousness, which included being exposed to each other's thoughts and memories. Something about it did something to Logan, allowing him to understand Wade’s odd perception of the world.
“Listen, they’re playing our song, Peanut!” Wade said cheerfully.
“Don’t call it that,” Logan replied gruffly. He suddenly felt the urge to grab Wade’s hand. He took it just as Wade reached for a box of cookies he wanted off the top shelf.
“Hey! Not that I don’t like this random show of affection, but I wanted those!”
Logan gave a low growl. “Here,” Logan said grabbing the box with his free hand and tossing it into the cart. “Happy?”
“Well, I would be, except you chucking those into the cart probably destroyed them all. I'm gonna have a box of crumbs,” Wade said. “On the other hand, you’re starting to get your ‘shopping face’, so we should probably get a move on.”
Wade tried to pull his hand out of Logan’s grip, but Logan held fast. The song was still playing and Logan couldn’t let go. All Logan knew was that he felt something terrible would happen to Wade if he didn’t hold on to him.
“Okayyyy,” Wade said, giving Logan a look. “Guess we’re doing this now. Well, since you want to stay conjoined with me, and my other hand has my phone with the shopping list, looks like you’re pushing the cart, Babygirl.”
“Fine,” Logan said, grabbing on to the cart with his free hand and jerking it around. For once, it wasn’t the shopping making him frustrated. His inability to understand what was going on with him was making him extra touchy.
It was awkward trying to maneuver the cart with one hand, and it felt weird holding Wade’s hand. Not that he was a stranger to it, he’d held Wade’s hand dozens of times over the past few months, but that was mostly at home or in relative privacy. It was never out of nowhere at the grocery store. Not to mention it felt like his body and mind had acted on their own, without Logan's consent.
“….it’s like a prayer”
The song finally ended, and Logan felt he could let go of Wade’s hand without feeling like Wade's very existence was in jeopardy.
“Aww, you don’t want to act like an old married couple holding hands at the store anymore? I was starting to like it.”
“Drop it,” Logan said, not wanting to have to explain to Wade what that was about, especially since he couldn’t even fully explain it to himself. Hopefully that was just some kind of one-time occurrence, and they could both forget it ever happened.
