"Choose one or both die,” The threat was clear as day in his voice.
“NO, please take me, I am the crown prince, having me dead will do more good than any of them!” Jace cried, struggling hard in the hold of the unknown stinking man. He looked at the other man holding both of his twins by their hair. The twins were clearly in pain, their little knees scraping the cold floor, but they knew better than to open their mouths, tears just streaming down their little faces, for once he was thankful that his belly was not visible early like it was visible when he was pregnant with Aemon and Maelor.
“This is taking too long, if you don't choose one of them by the count of three. I'll kill them both, do you understand that?,” the man who was holding his twins said. He pressed his dagger tighter into Maelor’s neck, making him scream out in pain, which made his twin cry out even more.
“Whose orders are you following? Please, name your price and I will grant the double to you. Anything you want, jewels or coins, but please don't hurt them,” Jace begged. He knew better not to thrash anymore because the dagger was pushing harder into his own neck and his son's.
“The only thing I want is one of their heads, 3..2….-”
He was cut off by a trembling voice, ”No, No please I'm choosing.” Jace trembled even at the thought of naming one of his children to death.
“Yeah why don't ya hurry the fuck up,” said the man holding his kids, digging the dagger in Maelor’s neck. A line of blood rushed out with a whimper, and the room was starting to smell like copper and blood.
“Aemon! Take Aemon…” Jace would rather be burned alive than hear himself say these words again,”Please…..” he sobbed ugly, tears falling down from his eyes like a faucet.
He heard a snicker from behind, the man who was holding him captive. The brute laughed before saying, “Did ya hear that boy, your mother wants ya dead, Blood take the other one.”
Before Jace could say anything in protest, he was grabbed roughly by his hair and forced to watch his twins more clearly.
He could see his children begging with their eyes, their beautiful beautiful eyes filled with terror and tears. Their eyes held an understanding that no child should ever have to have.
“Please… don't,” Jace begged for the last time. He closed his eyes in agony, but then he heard the sound of something slashing and someone gurgling. He squeezed his eyes tighter, but a second later, a warm liquid splashed right on his face.
Forcing his eyes to open, he was met with the scene of Maelor’s eyes staring into nothing, realization hit him that he was staring right at his dead son's head.
His eyes widened to the point they felt like they might burst out. His scream of terror was pushed down and muffled by the man's dirty hand on his mouth.
His eyes moved to his other son, Aemon who had his eyes closed, trembling, tears pouring out of his eyes in silence.
Jace tried to reach for Maelor but he was tugged hard by his hair, forcing him to stay in one place.
The two strangers who killed his son shared an eye contact. Before Jace could make out what was happening next, he was hit on his temple by the pommel of the dagger. His vision went completely blurry as he was shoved onto the floor right by the beds, His hands shot out to cover his belly where he carried a new life.
He laid there for a good two minutes clutching his stomach, all he could think was about his twins and the babe growing inside his belly, he could not lose more than one child tonight, his head was throbbing, before he was conscious enough to feel Aemon, who was now beside him clinging to him, sobbing. Jace sat up abruptly. Something wet and warm was streaming down from his temple, and he winced as his vision swayed again.
Jace quickly stood up on shaky legs, his hands still on his stomach, checking if the intruders left. To his relief, he found none, just a terrifying silence that he and his kid had to bear. He bent down, picking up the sobbing Aemon. He did not care if he was pregnant,Maelor, who was now too big to be in his arms,he mentally prepared himself to not look at his dead son on the floor.
With Aemon in his arms, who was now clinging to him for his life, still crying, Jace could feel his nightgown getting wet with tears and blood. His own eyes burned with tears; he wanted to take his eyes out just and forget what he witnessed.
He rushed out of his room, his eyes wildly searching the dark halls for any servant or guard or anyone but there wasn’t a single person in sight. Cursing the empty hallways and leaving their fate to Daemon, he sprinted towards his own chambers where he knew his husband would be. His heart was beating like he had just participated in a tourney back to back, tears on the verge again. He knew the second he met his husband's eyes he wouldn't be able to bear and would snap. As he kept walking with Aemon in his arms, the door of his chambers came into sight.
He slammed open the doors with a loud crash.
Aerion, who was lying on the bed with his silver hair disheveled and his face half pressed on the pillow, wearing his comfortable bottoms and nothing else, looking ready to sleep. Hearing the thud his hands shot inside the pillow to take out his dagger before he even acknowledged who broke in.
Sleep was nowhere to be found on his face. His eyes darkened ready to pound on whoever broke in before his eyes landed on his omega.
Jacaerys was covered in blood, and in his arms he held a young Aemon, who was crying and clinging to his mother. Jace looked like he saw death itself, his face completely ashened, his lips trembling trying to form out words but failing. His eyes held pain that couldn’t be described. Looking upon him, He wanted to burn the whole world down and look for that person whoever caused this great pain to his omega.
He shot out of bed at the speed of an arrow, quickly reaching Jace in big strides. He took Jace's face in his hands, his fingers warm against Jace's cold, trembling skin. After making sure there weren't any injuries except the bleeding on his forehead and a thin still bleeding cut on his neck , he held Jace's face and made him look at him directly.
“What happened? Jace, look at me. What happened? Is the babe fine?” Aerion asked, his voice coming out with pure panic, his right hand reaching to feel the babe inside his belly but Jace pushed his hand away lightly, Aerion returned his hand to cradle Jace's face.
“He.. he is dead, they made me choose, I'm sorry,” Jace finally let his tears down. His eyes burned as he instinctively moved his face into Aerion's hands to seek any sort of comfort, his omega howling in pain. He looked at Aerion, who still looked totally puzzled.
“Who? Who is dead, tell me? Whoever hurt you, I will fly to Vermithor and burn them myself,” Aerion asked, his voice gentle for Jace but holding pure malice. “Please Jace say something, where are the guards?” Aerion tried again seeking for any kind of answer. Jace tried to answer him his voice still trembling and not being able to form a sentence.
“They killed Maelor. In front of our eyes, they hurt Muna too,” Aemon finally replied to his Father, breaking the silence. He lifted his head from his mother's neck, looking at Aerion with puffy eyes and cheeks full of tear stains. ”There was too much blood.”
