Dog Days

Summary:

Chaos first noticed him on a rainy morning, taking care of dogs.

And maybe he wants to be taken care of by the pretty guy too.

Notes:

Am I salty that I couldn't actually adopt a puppy with Chaos or that Chaos' hound doesn't constantly walk through my apartment? No, of course not. Why would you think so?

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Chaos first noticed him on a rainy morning. The light downpour was not nearly strong enough for him to skip his usual morning jog with his hound.

But while the streets were empty, not only due to the early hour but also because people preferred to occupy doorways and storefronts until the rain passed, there was one lone fleck of black that didn't move from its crouched spot. For a moment, Chaos assumed it to be a lost item or an anomaly until he got close enough to see the head of light gray hair, which had almost completely disappeared inside a cardboard box.

Just as Chaos passed him, he sat up straight. A chuckled, "That's enough, you two!" even as two puppies tried to crawl on his lap to continue licking his face.

He put his hands on his hips. "You know, the rain would be so much less of a hassle to you guys if you just allowed yourself to be taken off the streets and adopted."

As if on command, the two small pups firmly planted their butts inside their cardboard shelter.

"That's what I thought. See you next time."

Chaos watched him leave, already completely enamored.

The next time Chaos saw him, the pretty guy was in the same spot. The dog, however, was different. Instead of the two small pups, a tall, three-headed hellhound stood in front of him.

Enjoying head pats.

Though, he only had two hands.

The third head, the one in the middle, seemed less than pleased by this fact. Not that it wanted to let others know, given how it lifted its head so its glasses slid up further its snout.

The guy chuckled.

And kissed it on the nose.

All three heads were shocked.

Chaos was jealous.

Of a dog.

Same routine, sunny, rather warm morning. But as long as it didn't know ice cream again, Chaos could enjoy any weather. Especially when it came with the luxury of seeing the guy he totally didn't have a creepy, stalker-ish crush on sitting on a bench beneath a flowering sakura tree, reading a book in peace.

Chaos could stand there for hours.

His hound didn't think the same.

It took Chaos by one of his long sleeves and led him over to him. Without so much as giving Chaos the chance for a proper greeting, it headbutted Chaos onto the bench next to him before disappearing.

Chaos turned his head only to be caught by mesmerizing cat-like eyes. "Umm... hi."

The guy gave him a confused smile. "Hello." He glanced at the empty spot Chaos's hound had occupied previously. "I take it that was your hound and not an attack?"

"If anything, my own dog just threw me out." Chaos sighed.

"Is that so?" He closed his book. "What's your name?"

"Chaos. Yours?"

"Zero. And don't worry." He started to pet Chaos' head, his fingers somehow finding all the right spots to ease Chaos' aches. "I'll take good care of you."

Notes:

Thinking of doing a follow up from Zero's POV.
