Chapter 1: Ready to drop

Chapter Text

Chapter 1 : ready to drop

It’s the same room, the smallest out of the entire compound. There’s a small window but you can barely see the night sky.

God… the sky, how long has it been since you stood under it…
How long since someone called your name? Touched you?
How long since you felt like you truly existed?

It doesn’t matter anymore, it will all be over soon. Although you didn’t choose your death, you gladly accept it. It’s perfect actually. You would never have the guts, but that’s all you ever really wanted.

Your head hurts, your throat is dry. You wish you could ask someone for water but you can’t even care about that anymore. Somewhere inside of you there’s a scream, but you don’t let it out. What for?

You think of the old house, and how it smelled like Grandma. It was always warm, even in winter, even if the heater was ancient and barely working. It was warm because it was home.

Now you don’t have a home anymore, no one to welcome you, not Grandma, not him… he's gone too.

You try to see a patch of the starry sky. He said it’d take you there one day, that was his dream. In the end he went before you, but not for long anymore.

“I’m coming Caleb, just wait a little longer, I’ll be here…”

You beg in your head, where no one can hear. And again, even if you managed to speak, no one would know anyway. You’re all alone, trapped in this tiny room. You know what’s going to happen to you. They’ve tried to help you, but you’re beyond help.

You just wanna go, let it all go.. This world, its people. They’ve all been so cruel. You were bred to suffer, and when finally you were freed and offered a chance at life, it was taken away just as fast.

You think of him, and his eyes, his reassuring nature. You smile, ready to drop. Finally, finally, you’ll see him again…

You whisper.

“I’m coming home..”

He hated the shelter, hated going there, hated having to be confronted with so much sorrow, but what could he do? He was a good doctor first and foremost, a passionate one who dedicated his time to his patients, no matter their species. It didn’t change the fact that going to the refuge was excruciating for such a compassionate man.

He promised himself to go every month though, at least once, to check on the residents. That’s the least he could do for Mia. She was the head nurse at Akso Hospital for 35 years before retiring and opening her own refuge. She was a kind and dedicated woman. He had learned many things from her, she was somewhat of a mother figure for him and many others who had worked alongside her.

So, that Friday morning, when he heard her panicked voice through the phone, he knew he had no choice but to take the afternoon off and come to her aid. There was a virus going around, and the disease was spreading fast among the hybrids. He managed to leave Akso Hospital around noon, leaving it in the capable hands of his colleagues, and drove to the place.

Mia’s shelter was not the fanciest building; it was holding on for dear life thanks to donations of generous patrons. There were about 20 hybrids staying there at all times, and only 3 or 4 caretakers. They were overworked, overstressed, and way in over their heads.

As soon as he arrived, he was greeted by the cheerful Tara, a young volunteer who, despite her busy schedule as a hunter, helped out as soon as she could.

“Good afternoon Dr. Zayne, thank you for coming so last minute… We thought we could handle it on our own but it’s spreading so fast, and now we already have 7 infected. It seems to be a sort of flu, it only affects them, all the staff are fine. We’ve isolated all that are ill in a room; there are about 7 of them. Follow me.”

He walked after her down a long corridor, to one of the furthest rooms. Inside, all the infected were crammed together uncomfortably. They looked ill and pale. Hybrids are noticeably more sensitive to certain illnesses, so it’s better to act fast. Zayne got to work immediately.

After 2 hours of careful treatment and care, each patient was put to bed with instructions to follow for the next few days. Although tired, the doctor was relieved and satisfied with a job well done. Until something dawned on him…

“Tara, you told me there were 7 patients, but I seem to have only treated 6, where is the last one?”

Tara looked flustered for a minute, unsure if she should speak or how to articulate what she was about to say.

“Oh yes, there’s one more… but there is no need to treat her.”

“Why ?”

“Well… She… we’re putting her down next week.”

Zayne was stunned. This was not in Mia’s habit, she never gave up on anyone. Tara tried to explain.

“We’ve tried everything with this one and we don’t know what to do anymore. The goal of this refuge is to rehabilitate the hybrids and then find them a loving home. Sure, sometimes it takes a long time and it can be difficult to gain their trust but eventually, we always succeed. But with her, nothing has worked. She is still as aggressive and hateful, not only of us, but of the other residents too. We cannot socialize her, and we fear she will never get adopted. But, we have such a low capacity, we can’t keep her forever, so we decided it was time to let go..”

Tara looked ready to cry, this was obviously taking a toll on her. She was passionate about her work here, and giving up on a rescue must have been breaking her heart.

The doctor stayed silent, deep in thoughts. What a cruel fate for this hybrid. To be that undomesticable and violent, she must have had a tough life, only for it to end at the mercy of a needle, with no way to fight for herself. He made a decision on the spot.

“I’ll see her. Show me the way”

“Dr Zayne there is no use, she could hurt you, trust me, it’s better to leave her alone before, well… before it happens.”

“If she’s sick I can’t just let her be, she could also still infect others.”

Tara looked uncertain for a minute, but then, she seemed to make up her mind.

“Alright, well then follow me, it’s just a bit further down.”

There was indeed a small hidden door all the way down. It looked more like the entrance to a cupboard than anything else. Tara got out her keys, and unlocked the door before pushing it gently, almost as if she was afraid something would pounce on her as soon as it opened. She stepped back swiftly, letting Zayne advance in the dark room. It was small, with only the tiniest of windows and almost no furniture, just a bed and a chair. He looked around and that’s when he saw you, curled up, with your head on your knees.

“Be careful, don’t trigger her or she could hurt you. She is a cat hybrid, so she has sharp claws and even sharper canines.”

Zayne entered the room ever so slowly, careful not to scare you. You looked so small like this, he could tell you were in pain, you were shivering, and your breathing was labored.

“Good afternoon, my name is Zayne. I’m a doctor.”

He paused, seeing if you had any reaction to his presence near you. When you didn’t budge, he came a little closer.

“Would you mind if I took a look at you? It seems that you are sick and in need of treatment.”

He tentatively took a few steps toward you as you lifted your head. A part of you immediately wanted to lunge forward and claw at his face, but you were too sick to even get up. The face of the man who claimed to be a doctor was blurred, and your eyes couldn’t focus on anything. Too weak to react, you let him approach you. He crouched next to you and put his hand against your forehead.

It was cold, and you leaned into it without thinking, it felt so good against your burning skin, and your instinct took over you.

What a pitiful creature, Zayne thought. Although he couldn’t see much of your face, he could tell how gaunt you looked, your face sunken in from lack of proper nutrition and sleep. Your hair was long and unkempt. Everything about you seemed feral and wild. Your eyes, although unfocused, showed fear and a sort of aggressivity, as if you were ready to attack.

As he reached down for his bag, a spark ignited in your eyes, and with all the strength you had left, you jumped on him. Zayne didn’t have time to react before he was thrown on the floor, medical supplies flying around the room. You were on top of him, caging him down.

That’s the last thing you remember, the surprise on his face, before you fainted and collapsed onto him.

The ride home was a blur. He was exhausted. There were scratches all around his arms and a deep one under his right eye, it burned, but he couldn’t care less. All he wanted was to go home.

When the mansion finally came into view, he breathed a sigh of relief. He parked his car in the usual spot, and took a minute before opening the door. He knew that as soon as he came home and they saw the state of him, he’d be bombarded with questions and worried looks.

Luckily for him, when he finally pushed the front door, the living room seemed to be empty. He could hear the faint sound of music coming from the studio, but he knew that nothing could interrupt Rafayel when he was painting.

Zayne made a beeline for the couch, where he sat with all his weight. Usually, he would have taken his coat off properly and placed his shoe in the dedicated emplacement, but his body was screaming at him to lie down, the exhaustion of the last few hours catching up to him.

He closed his eyes, and although he didn’t fall asleep, he had no idea how much time passed before he heard some noise around him. He felt the couch dent next to him; still, he didn’t move, didn’t even open his eyes.

“Zayne..?”

Xavier’s voice was soft, careful.

“Are you alright ?”

His question was met with silence.

“I don’t think he can hear you, bunny. Come on, let’s help him.”

Sylus and Xavier started helping the doctor undress, taking off his shoes and his work coat, putting them back where they belonged. Zayne groaned slightly, but let them do it anyway. Xavier winced as he took a closer look at the doctor.

“He has cuts everywhere, look at the one on his face.”

“He told me he was going to the shelter this morning, he must have met with quite the fearsome beast.”

Sylus chuckled as Xavier sent him a dark look.

“Not funny, go get the first aid kit.”

“I’m fine, I already treated them.” Mumbled Zayne.

“Yeah, yeah.. We’re still going to do it again. You probably barely did anything. Honestly, you’re a useless doctor when it comes to yourself.”

Sylus went to retrieve the kit as instructed.

“What happened anyway?”

Xavier sat next to Zayne, waiting for an answer. His bunny ear stood alert above his head.

“I went to the shelter today. There is a flu going around, nothing too bad. Nothing I couldn't take care of.”

“Well, a flu definitely didn’t do that to you.”

“No, Sylus, clearly not. There was a hybrid, a cat. She was… feral, let’s say. Even though she was barely able to remain conscious, that didn't stop her from clawing at me every chance she got.”

Xavier took the kit from Sylus’ hands and started tending to Zayne’s wound.

“She sounds like a mouthful. She will have a hard time getting adopted.”

“Well, not every hybrid can be as sweet as you, bunny”.

Sylus ruffled Xavier’s ears before he shot him a death glare.

“If you remember well, I bit your hand the first time you tried to touch my ears.”

“How could I forget? And we still adopted you anyway.”

Zayne furrowed his eyebrows, deep in his thoughts, he barely listened to the banter going around him.

“Guys, listen to me for a second.”

They both turned back to him. Although Zayne was a serious man, he wasn’t as stern as he looked. For him to be this aggravated, what he wanted to say must have been important.

“She’s not getting adopted. Ever.”

“What do you mean?”

“They’re terminating her. Euthanasia. They think she’s too aggressive, unsociable, even with her peers. I–”

“Absolutely not.”

Another voice interjected. Rafayel came out from the hallway where he had been eavesdropping on the whole conversation.

“No, no, no. I can see you coming. We’re not adopting her.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“Yet. I know you, Zayne, you want to save everyone. Well, you can’t. And I hate cats.”

“Don’t we also get a say in this?” Asked Xavier.

“No, because you and Sylus are going to agree with him, I know that. This should be a unanimous decision.”

“She’s going to die, Rafayel.”

Zayne looked solemn. More than ever before. Rafayel stood there with his arms crossed before puffing. No one talked for a long minute, they just stared at each other before the artist let out a frustrated puff.

“Well, do whatever you want, but I’m not helping you. And she’s not allowed anywhere near me, is that clear?”

He left for his bedroom without waiting for an answer.

Xavier turned back to Zayne.

“We are getting her, right?”

Zayne looked at him.

“If you agree, yes, but you have to understand this won’t be easy. She seems… scared. More than anything. She is deeply broken, and if neither Mia nor Tara nor anybody else could help, there’s no guarantee that we could. I wonder if letting her go is not the best decision… but I want to give it a try first.”

“Did you read her file?” Asked Sylus.

“No, not yet..”

“Doesn’t matter, I’m in. She can’t be worse than Rafayel anyway.”

✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼

“Hey… time to wake up.”

You stir, slowly moving your limbs, stretching.

You’re alive. It’s the first thing that struck you. You are alive. But for how long?

“We need to get you ready.”

Ready for what ? You want to ask, but you already know. Ready to die. Isn’t it cruel? They should have let the fever take you. That stupid doctor, he shouldn’t have healed you, you would have passed peacefully, unaware it was even happening.

Well, now it’s time. You get up slowly. You know you look like hell, your shirt is covered in sweat, and your hair is cascading all over yourself. There was a time you would groom yourself, you don’t anymore. You’re gonna die like a rat, better look like one.

“We need to clean you up a little. Come on, let’s go.”

Clean you? What for? Are they trying to make you feel like you have any dignity left?
Tara leads you to the bathroom and gives you a change of clothes. It’s a simple grey dress, but it doesn’t have any holes, and it smells clean. You feel bad holding it in your dirty hands, so you shower quickly. You try to brush your hair, but it’s so matted there is not so much you can do.. You put the dress on, and it fits. Not only that, but you take a look at yourself in the small broken mirror of the bathroom.

So this is what you’re going to look like when you die.

Tara knocks and then enters the bathroom. She beams at you.

“The dress looks good on you! I’m happy! However, we really have to do something for your hair.”

She takes the hairbrush in her hand, and you immediately hiss. If she thinks that’s just because you’re gone soon, you’re going to allow someone to touch you, she’s sorely mistaken. She takes a step back.

“Come on, we want you to look pretty! It’s such a special day after all.”

You didn’t think death could be so cheerful. She seems to think it a great occasion, but when she sees you’re not letting your guard down, she lowers the hairbrush and sighs..

“Come now, let’s go.”

She leads you to the playroom, where she makes you sit on a small bench. There is no one else but you. They don’t let you with the other hybrids anyway. Tara leaves the room, and you stay alone for a good 10 minutes. You don’t move; instead, you look at the painted sky on the ceiling, it’s chipping a bit.

You smile; you imagine it’s real, the clouds, the sun. You almost feel a breeze. You close your eyes, and for a moment, there’s no more shelter, no more needles, no more humans and hybrids. There’s just you, Grandma, and him, and he points at the sky and tells you that one day, he’ll take you there.

In the end, he went before you and left you here all alone. But now you’re ready to go. There’s a small tear at the corner of your eye. It threatens to spill, but you don’t let it. Even though it’s a happy one, you don’t want them to see it, they would think you’re sad, and they would take pity on you, and that’s the last thing you want.

The door reopens suddenly, but it’s not Tara you see. Instead it’s the doctor from a few days ago. Makes sense, he must be the one who will put you down. He looks at you straight in the eyes. You hadn’t noticed when you saw him last time, but he’s a beautiful man.

You’re glad. That’s a nice face to see before dying. He comes closer to you, and you don’t flinch or get ready to attack. There is no use anymore.

“Hello, I don’t know if you remember me, I’m Dr. Zayne. I’m here to take you.”

God... Who knew death would be so alluring? He holds out his hand, and you don’t hesitate to take it. Tara is stunned behind you, she’s never seen you trust someone so fast. She can’t help the huge smile stretching on her face. She must be glad to get rid of you.

You let him take you outside and into the passenger seat of his car. You don’t question it, you had supposed they must do this in special places. Euthanasia is strictly controlled, even for hybrids.

On the road, you look out the window. You haven’t been out in so long…

It’s not a beautiful day, the clouds are low and spitting rain. You watch the drops dance on the glass. You missed the outside world. You never really belonged in it, but you didn’t belong in a cage either, no one does.

Time passes by, and before you even realize you’re dozing off, you’re even purring a little, it’s warm. Zayne has a soft smile. You don’t see it, completely unaware.

That is until you feel the car slowing down. When you open your eyes, you’re surprised to see a huge mansion standing above you instead of a cold clinical center. This doesn’t feel right.
You look at the tall man next to you, but he's already out of the car. He opens the passenger door and shows you his hand. This time you don’t take it.

Something is wrong.

“We have arrived, come on, let’s go inside.”

Inside where? Is that his home? Why would he take you there? Your senses go on high alert. Danger. All you can think about is danger.

Your ears and tails perk up, your hair raises, and you show your canines threateningly. You look at him. He looks confused. He outstretches his hand one more time.

You don’t hesitate and slash it away with your claws before bolting out of the car and away from him. You try to run, but you're immediately stopped by a wall or what you thought was a wall. Instead, it’s a man, huge with white hair and gleaming red eyes.

“Hey there, kitten.”

Danger. Even more danger. That man has a predatory look in his eyes. You immediately lunge at him, ready to claw at his face, but in a minute, he has you in his grasp, your wrists pinned in his hands. You glare at him.

“You didn’t lie, she’s feisty.”

You growl, as much as a cat can. It’s a guttural sound, and it's not pretty. It’s a warning. You try to free your hands, but there’s not much you can do. He’s much bigger and much stronger than you. When you try to make a run for it for a second time, he lifts you up and starts to carry you inside. You're slumped over his shoulder, wriggling in his hold, and you’re scratching his back, but he doesn’t seem to care one bit. You wish you could scream, but your voice has not come out in so long, you know it’s useless.

“Get her inside quick, Sylus, or she might actually hurt you.”

“Hahaha, it’s not a few scratches that can scare me.”

You bite his shoulder. Hard.

“I know, I was talking about that.”

Sylus looks at you, with your mouth encircling a bit of his massive shoulder. You don’t let go, but everything in you cowers in front of him. You can feel the blood trickling down your jaw and onto his shirt. Again, he doesn’t seem to care at all. Instead he looks…amused?.

Before you know it, you’re inside the mansion. You’re immediately hit with different smells. You recognize the doctor, slightly chemical, like a hospital ward, yet there’s something warmer, even sweet about it.

You also recognize the perfume of the one holding you. It’s strong, with a leather and woody undertone, almost like an old red wine.

Then there’s another one, it’s salty and flowery. You don’t know who it belongs to but you can’t help but be intrigued. It’s nice, inviting, tempting even.

And then… a hybrid. You’re immediately met by the strong scent of an alpha. It’s intimidating; you can tell it’s a male, and he has scented the entire house. Yet it’s a fresh scent, soft even.

When Sylus finally puts you down on the couch, you don’t know what to do. It’s useless to run at this point, you know it. You turn to the doctor who stands behind you.

“I’m sorry, this must be a shock to you, I thought Tara would have told you…”

Told you what? You’re more and more confused by the whole ordeal. You still don’t know why you are here, who really are those men, and more importantly, what they want with you?

“We adopted you so you wouldn’t... Well, you know what was going to happen to you, no?”

You’re stunned. How dare they? How dare they take this away from you? You wanted to go, that was your only wish. They had no right taking this away from you.

You’re suffocating. The world doesn't make sense anymore, and everything is spinning. You can hardly breathe. No, you can’t believe it… you were going to be free. Finally, you…

“She’s hyperventilating, Zayne, quick, do something.”

“No!! Don’t touch me!!”

Even in your poor state, you're still fighting hard, and you can't help the words coming out of your mouth. You start screaming as they try to pin you.
You don’t need them. You're clawing at nothing; your breath becomes more and more labored. You know you won’t last long.

Your vision starts to blur, but just before your consciousness disappears, you feel two arms encircling you. Keeping you grounded. A fresh smell hits your nose

“I’m coming, I promise…” you whisper weakly.

Then, the world collapses, and nothing is left.

✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼

When you wake up, you don’t know how many hours have passed. It’s dark outside. You’re alone in a bedroom. You don’t think you’ve ever slept in a bed that comfortable. Grandma's house was nice, but she wasn’t very rich, and with two people to take care of, she could only afford secondhand goods. You never complained, though.

Your ears react slightly as you sit up. You can hear distant noises, a conversation going on in another room. You can tell there are four distinct voices, two are unknown to you.

“Told you this was a bad idea.”

“Come on, nobody said it was going to be easy.”

“She’s a maniac, look what she did to you ?”

“She felt threatened. You don’t know what happened to her before. Zayne, did you get her file yet ?”

“No, Tara couldn’t find it… she is going to ask Mia for it tomorrow. We should get it by the end of the week. “

“You better. She’s fucking psycho I’m telling you.”

“She’s awake.”

You hold your breath but you know it’s useless. The other hybrid has smelled you. You wonder what kind is he, with how potent his senses are, you imagine him to be quite the predator.

They’re whispering now, and you can’t quite hear anything anymore. Until there is the sound of steps coming up the stairs and it’s getting closer. You know who it is.

He knocks, and you step back from the door. You immediately retreat further down the room. When he opens the door, you’re a safe distance from him. His hand is wrapped in a bandage, you should feel bad, but you don’t. Not really; not that much.

“Hi, how are you feeling ?”

He takes a step into the room.

“If you feel better, I think it would be nice to talk for a bit if you’re okay with that.”

You don’t answer, and he takes it as a sign you’re okay to continue the conversation, even if it's one sided.

“I know you don’t want anything to do with me, and that it’s all weird to you. I’m not expecting you to trust me, or any of us for that matter. We simply want you to feel comfortable and to think of this place as yours too.”

He pauses, trying to gauge if there is any reaction from you but you stay still.

“This will be your room; there are four of us here, five now, with you. We eat together, but if you’re not comfortable with this, we can leave you food in the kitchen or give it to you in the bedroom. For now, we don’t have much for you, this… wasn't exactly planned. But maybe we can go shopping in the next few days? Get you some clothes and some other stuff you might need. In the meantime, feel free to ask any of us for anything. Would you like to meet the others?”

You hiss. That’s your way of refusing him. You don’t want to be here, let alone get to know them. Does he think you’re all going to become friends? That you’re going to let him tame you and make you into a cute little house pet? Never.

You have already planned your escape. By tonight, you will be gone.
You? Adopted? You already have a family, and nothing nor no one can replace it.

As you stay silent and glaring, Zayne takes it as a sign to leave you alone. He gives you one last look before closing the door behind him.

You sit back on the bed, you need your plan to work. For now, you wait.

✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼

A few hours later, you’re sure everybody has gone to bed. The house stays quiet, and you can barely hear the soft breathing of the four men.

It’s perfect. Ever so slowly, as stealthy as the cat you are, you open the door to your bedroom. There’s a tray outside your door, full of food. You had smelled it, but you refused to touch it. You’re not even hungry anyway. You go around it before making your way down the stairs.

This house is huge. You’re not sure where to go, but after a while, you found the living room again, and eventually, the front door.

You’re hit with the cold night air as soon as you step out. There’s a storm, it’s raining, and the winds are strong, they’re slapping your face in all directions. With still only your little grey dress, you’re freezing, but it doesn’t matter, you bolt into the night.

There is nothing around, no other houses, no city. They live very far out, away from the world. After some running, you find a wood, you go inside, avoiding any clear path. After a long, painful walk, you see a glade; you lie in the middle of it. This is your final resting place.

Your whole body hurts, you can feel your heart thumping into your chest. You must have been running for an hour. You try to steady your breathing.

Your clothes are soaked, so are your hair, your tail, and your ears. You look at the sky above you. It’s dark, and the storm hides any stars.

You’ve done it now, finally, death will take you. You close your eyes, you let your mind go somewhere else, in a world of dreams. Or nightmares.

✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼

It’s cold outside, it’s wet. There’s a storm raging, but you can’t even hear the thunder. You’re not in the glade anymore, instead, you’re running as far as you can, as fast as you can. You’re holding his hand, he’s in front of you, and he’s running so quick that it feels like you’re flying behind him. Then lightning strikes, or is it an explosion? You’re both propelled into the air, your hands are separated.

He’s gone; you can’t see him anywhere. You scream, you scream, nothing.

You have blood on your hands. Yours? His? You hope it's yours.

You’re so far in your nightmare you don’t feel the dip in the mattress as someone crawls next to you. You don’t hear anything, not even your own whimpering. You look like you’re in so much pain, so much despair.

He climbs next to you ever so slowly. First, he nuzzles your neck, trying to calm you by mixing your scents. Your breathing doesn't slow, so he gets closer and takes you in his arms. Your head on his chest, he rubs circles on your back. He’s letting out as many pheromones as possible; it seems to be working. Slowly you relax in his grasp; your tight limbs slowly loosen. He hums something slowly, and eventually, he hears you exhaling and inhaling at a slower pace. You feel good against him, and he’s falling asleep before he even realizes.

A few hours later you’re the first to wake up. You feel warm, which doesn’t make sense. You’re still in the wood, aren’t you? It doesn’t take you long to realize that you're, in fact, not. You’re back into the bedroom you left hours ago. How?

You try to move, but your movements are limited, something is holding you. Something or someone, you don’t know. You look up to find a blond face in front of you.

An angel. That’s your first thought. Maybe you did really die.

Suddenly he stirs a little, and you get a waft of his scent. It’s the same as the hybrid you smelled earlier. So you’re really back… You should be upset, but right now, you’re too comfortable for that. And you’re exhausted, you don’t have the energy to get away, not when you feel so… safe.

You look at Xavier; he has two white bunny ears above his head. So much for the fearsome predator you imagined… Is it because he’s an alpha you feel so secure right now? Like nothing could hurt you.

You feel somewhat guilty. You rejected them, ran away even, and yet, here you are, cozying up to one of them. As you study his face, you can’t help but blush. He truly is as beautiful as an angel, with a pale face, long eyelashes, rosy lips… he is dream-like.

He stirs again, and this time, it’s to bring you closer to him. You’re squeezed against his chest. For the second time tonight, you close your eyes. This time you hope you’re not going to wake up, but for a whole different reason.

✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼ ✼

“Zayne, have you seen Xavier ?”

“Probably still in bed. As usual.”

“Yeah, I know, I went to his bedroom, he’s not in there.”

“So he is with Sylus.”

“Nope, not with me.”

Rafayel looked at the top of the stairs where Sylus was standing.

“Do you mean…”

Sylus smirked.

“Only one way to find out.”

The three of them slowly climbed the stairs and arrived in front of your bedroom. Rafayel turned the knob as delicately as he could. And there you both were, a mess of entangled limbs, your head nuzzled in his neck and your arms around his middle. His head is on top of yours, and he is scenting your hair. Your legs lie crossed on top of his, and you are purring loudly.

“Please, tell me someone has a phone so I can take a picture.”

“You bet I do, Sy.”

Rafayel pulls out his phone and creeps closer to the bed. A thousand pictures later, a low growl echoes in the room. Xavier is waking up. Zayne tries to approach the bed to help the bunny get out slowly so you could keep sleeping, but all that is heard is a snarl.

Zayne takes it as a sign that the other hybrid is not ready to let go of you and hushes the two others out of the door.

“We should let them sleep for now.”

“Goodnight kitten, goodnight bunny.”

Sylus closed the door behind him, and the trio walked to the kitchen back as quiet as mice.

Back in the bedroom, you shift lightly. Xavier is indeed not ready for you to wake up and for this moment to be over, so he pulls you even closer, smelling you, marking you subtly. You go limp in his embrace once again, and he smiles. He presses a chaste kiss upon your forehead before closing his eyes.
You weren’t so bad after all, he thought to himself. Not bad at all.
