Work Text:
Cole sat on the closed lid of the half bath toilet, hands in his lap, while Kai dabbed gently at the lower half of his face. He could feel the half-dried blood getting lifted by the wet tissue. While he totally could have cleaned his face himself, he had to admit that Sensei Wu had done him a favour and the proximity was kind of nice.
Kai stood over him, one of the rare times where Cole had to look up to make eye contact with him. Not that their gazes were actually meeting; Kai’s ember-coloured eyes were laser-focused on his task, and Cole thought it was pretty hot.
Watching Kai’s sharp gaze run over the lower half of his face, feeling him put his thumb right under his lower lip and pull down so he could clean the area, hearing his breaths beginning to sync with Kai’s—it was almost enough to let him ignore the throbbing coming from his nose.
Actually, scratch that. After Kai leaned in even closer to get a better angle, the pain was ignored completely so he could think to himself, Oh my First Spinjitsu Master. Kai’s long black eyelashes shone in the bathroom light, darker than his dyed hair. They half-covered his eyes.
Kai laughed a little, eyes darting up to Cole’s before returning to his task. “You got warmer.”
“What, me?” Cole asked with a smile, gaining one from Kai in return.
He smelled like his hair products—something fruity?—and woodsmoke. It was a smell he’d become acutely familiar with ever since they had begun living in the same monastery.
“Okay, I think we’re good,” Kai said, throwing the damp, red-splotched tissue in the nearby garbage can and gently putting his hand under Cole’s chin so he could turn his face toward the bathroom light. “Yeah, we’re good. It looks like it’s swelling, though. It is still bleeding?”
“Nah, just a little stuffed.” Cole sniffed, and his nose throbbed in response. “Ow. I’m gonna go drink that tea.”
Kai’s hand landed on the bathroom wall behind him, eyes half-lidded, a smirk pulling at his lips. Cole was suddenly extremely aware of every point where they touched; Kai’s hand still under his chin, one of his knees between his and his other leg braced against the outside of his left thigh. His skin tingled with anticipation.
“Or…you could hold off a second,” he suggested, voice soft. Cole could hear his own heart in his ears, and he wondered if Kai could hear it, too. “How often do we get to be together without some world-threatening villain?”
“That’s true,” Cole murmured with his own smile, and he tilted his head a little so that when Kai leaned in, he could get a good angle at his lips. He could feel Kai’s grin against his mouth at the first kiss. His hand left his chin and instead made its way to the back of his head, settled within the dark curls. The other stayed on the bathroom wall to support him. Cole brought his own hands up to cup Kai’s face, his cheeks warm, always warm, against his palms.
Cole did have to crane his neck a little so that Kai could get to his mouth, and seemingly realizing this, Kai took a second to adjust himself. In the silence that came while he shifted, Cole could hear both of their breathing, synced.
Kai straddled his thighs and slowly trailed kisses down to his neck, starting with one directly on his lower lip. He could feel Kai’s smile against his skin with every one, lips warm. Always warm, the kind of warmth that Cole wanted to melt into.
Cole leaned forward to press a kiss to Kai’s forehead, except his nose—which was still broken—hit his hair and sent a throb through his entire head.
“Ow,” he said, and Kai immediately pulled away. Cole mourned the loss of warmth, but he knew he had to drink the tea Sensei Wu set out. “Sorry, I should probably drink Sensei’s tea,” he verbalized.
“Right, sorry,” Kai said, pressing one last warm kiss to his cheek and straightening the collar of Cole’s gi before getting off and watching Cole closely. “It’s still not bleeding, right?”
He hoped it wasn’t, since he couldn’t sniff it back without it making his nose hurt. He sighed. “Hopefully not enough to bleed everywhere.”
