Chapter Text
White hot rage was pulsing through Simon’s body. He could feel it in almost every cell and imagine it riding the hemoglobin of his blood. God damnit he was going to die but he was going to die fighting and pissed the fuck off.
“ FINE! You want the Butcher?! COME ON! Fuck you! Die!” He waded through the blood surrounding him and hacked at the teeth piercing the sub with his remaining arm and the fire extinguisher. As soon as it broke the monster surrounding him thrashed the SM-13 violently, flooding his sub with blood. Simon fell onto his back drenching himself more in the hot sickly crimson that was filling the submarine. Simon rose gasping for air but by then the blood was already up to his neck. He pressed himself to the ceiling and cried out in rage. He could feel the pain from his wounds, his missing arm, his burns and boils, and whatever the fuck was burning his face, the blood stung and clung to him and only made everything hurt more but what dulled it all was his Fury and a small sliver of hope. The black box was going to make it to the surface. He would have helped the remains of humanity. He would have done something good with his shitty life. Simon had driven the sub to its brink and any minute now the insane pressure mixed with the jaws of whatever was fucking with him was going to make the SM-13 implode, and it would take that ugly fish down with it. He couldn't atone for Filament Station or all the lives he took for his brothers and sisters. He would never be forgiven for his sins, but maybe he could help others live and not have to commit them. He was doing something good and even if he weren't forgiven at least it would be over. All he had to do was watch as the pressure in his sub implode him and hopefully kill this evil fucking fish.
Simon gulped on the last gasps of air in the sub and screamed louder, but before he could even process what he was screaming he felt the blast of his submarine.
Shrapnel and immense pressure tore into Simon instantly. It was almost like red hot metal was being poured all over him working its way into his wounds and through his blood absolutely petrifying his body in excruciating pain, but as quickly as it started it faded and then he felt nothing.
He thought he was dead and maybe he was. Simon could feel himself sinking in the blood ocean. He didn't try to gasp for air or scream. It was over, he was done, there was nothing he could do to help himself. He let his body go limp. He tried to remember a prayer, something that he could recount to comfort his troubled mind while he slowly drowned and choked on the waves of human blood surrounding him. Something that his mother would have said but he couldn't even conjure the thought he could barely remember her, she was just a blurry kind face in an ocean of his suffering. He felt his consciousness fade slowly and just as he was about to pass out he felt something lift him. He was going up just as the world around him faded.
Simon coughed, blood spewed from his mouth and onto the pristine floor around him. He could barely see, just red stained shapes on clean floors and walls. His head ached and he could hear something loud drumming at his skull. It was like someone was hitting his head with a hammer over and over. Hot streaks of pain made his vision flash white and Simon screamed out.
“Shhhhh it's gonna be ok, Armando and I are starting a tourniquet and pushing an IV right now.” Simon felt something tighten over where his arm used to be. When he opened his eyes Simon saw what he killed men for with fervor and what gave him his nickname when he was younger. An angel was standing in front of him. A halo of light shone behind its head and blocked everything around Simon except for his savior. Blonde locks and blue eyes knitted with concern were all Simon could see. It didn't make sense. He didn't deserve this. Why was this thing holding him, comforting him, after everything he had done? Simon began to weep, tears slid down his cheeks and mixed with the sinew that covered his face. He felt a warm hand brush them away. He could barely choke out what he wanted to say.
“ I don't deserve this.” But as the words spilled out of his mouth he felt the tearing of muscle and sinew on his face. He felt like the side of his mouth had been slit open with jagged glass. The pain caused his vision to crack and flash like lightning and then the world went dark again.
