Chapter Text

Why were they here? And why was Peter here? Oh god, what if something happened to May...

The first thing,-beside the two police officers- Peter noticed was that his principal looked like he hadn't slept in days.

The man was tired, that much was clear. But there was something else, he didn't just look exhausted but also...sad?

Peter was unable to identify exactly what it was. At that moment his thoughts were completely with May.

"Is everything alright sir?" Peter asked as soon as he stepped into the office.

His principal shook his head, "I'm afraid not, but it's not my place to explain it too you. These police officers are here to bring you to the station. Please follow them and behave yourself, Peter."

"What why? What's going on? Where's May?" Peter asked, May should be here, why wasn't she here?

His Principal sighed,"Peter, I can't answer that, please just follow the police officers, everything will be explained to you. Good Luck, Peter."

One of the police officers stepped forward, "Please come with us Mr Parker."

His Partner opened the door, Peter was not only confused as hell, he was getting panicked, why wasn't May here?

The panick must have been visible on his face, because on of the officers gentlly placed a hand on Peter's shoulder and led them out of the office.

The desk lady gave Peter a sympathetic look, he didn't even see it. His mind was stuck on May, something must have happened to her. What if she got hurt?

Peter snapped out of his spiral when the cold rain hit his skin. They had already left the school aparrently and it was pouring. Peter's clothes were soaked when they got to the police car.

If he was honest, he was freezing. It was only March, but Peter was wearing one of Tony's T-shirt's. He was in a hurry that morining, and just grabbed the first thing he could get his hands on.

Patrol was longer than usual, and he had to go to the tower to get a stab wound treated. Unfortunatly the wound wasn't fully healed yet, ususally it would have been a scar by now, but somehow his super healing refused to work properly at the moment.

The ride to the Pollice station wasn't long, Peter couldn't remember most of it, his mind was spiraling the whole time, question's like, 'Wheres May?', 'Did something happen to her', and so much more were running through his head.

Peter got again yanked out of his thoughts, this time by the police officer who had lead him to the car, the man had opened the door and was signaling Peter to get out.

When he stepped into the Police station two more officers joined them. "Hello Mr Parker, please follow us." One of the female police officers said, Officer Dawson, she said her name was.

Peter felt like somebody else was controlling his body, his feet moved on autopilot, even if his mind wasn't paying attention.

And suddenly Peter was alone, in a small room sitting on a chair.

He could hear people outside, talking to each other, but he couldn't focus on what they were saying.

Peter wanted to stand up, to sit in a cornor at the celling, to go back to class and pretend this was just some nightmare and not he reality. But he couldn't. He had to sit here, in this cold room, with soaking wet clothes, without May.

He wished somebody would open the room and tell him that it was a false alarm, that they'd take him back to school. That everything was fine with May and that he didn't need to worry about anything. But that didn't happen, nobody stepped into the room, and Peter just sat there, waiting.

Maybe it would have been better to remain in the dark, not knowing whether something had happened that would change his life or not.

No wait- he didn't know if something had happened, maybe the police just needed to talk to him, but why would they?

Peter's head immediatly turned towards the door as it opened. Two detectives stepped inside, one was carrying a bottle of water.

The two sat down in front of him and the bottle got placed on the table beside his hands.

The man leaned forward in his seat and rested his arms on the table "Im detective Kowalski and this is my partner detective brown, before we start, how are you Peter?"

"I..uh, good I think." Peter was stuttering, he knew that, but he couldn't be embarresed right now, he needed to know what happened. "What..what is going on?", he asked, looking at the two detectives in front of him.

The two detectives shared a look, before detective brown pressed her lips together and she sighed, "We're sorry to tell you that your aunt died this morning."

Peter's brain short circulated, May was dead. His Aunt May was dead. His last relative, the woman that had cared for him the past ten years, was dead. She died this morning.

"What?" His voice broke. Peter's vision blurred and his head started shaking, he suddenly had the feeling he needed to vomit. Everything was blurred and he had a constant ringing in his ear.

May Parker was dead.

Aunt May was dead.

Peter would never see her again. Never eat her burned Pancakes again. Never laugh with her about his fails as Spider-Man or just get advice from her. Never come home after a hard Patrol and get a hug from her while she tells him that it wasn't his fault and that it was okay.

Peter would never see her again.

He felt frozen in place, he knew there were tears streaming down his face, but he couldn't move. "What?" he reapeated, his voice was still shaking, but he didn't care.

He didn't care about his wet cloathes anymore, about his stab wound, about his tears or any other unimportant stuuf. May was dead.

"W-What," he had to stop when his voice broke again, after a few second he continued, "what happened?"

Officer Brown was speaking slowly and softly, "She was killed, a bus was held hostage and somebody got shot, she tried to help and the kidnapper shot her, she died on the way to the hospital."

Peter stopped shaking, the ringing in his ears got quieter, and his body felt like his' again. She was dead. Somebody had killed his Aunt. Somebody has to pay for this.

"Who?" that was the only thing Peter said, he tried to hide the venom in his voice, but he could tell by the little jump detectiv Kowalski's heart made that he wasn't doing a great job.

Officer brown leaned forward and still with that soft voice she said, "Peter we want you to know that your aunt was a hero, because of her everybody else is still alive."

"Who killed my Aunt?" Peter said, this time not trying to hide the venom in his voice, he could hear officer Brown's heart speeding up as well, appartenlty they hadn't expected that kind of tone from the tiny scrawny looking teenager who just lost his aunt.

"There were two of them, one is here, the other -Jason Novak- is still on the run, but we are actively searching for him." Detective Kowalski finally said.

Peter nodded, he then wipped the tears from his face. Now was no time to cry.

"Okay thank you." Peter's voice was quiet when he spoke.

A knock echoed trough the room, when the door opened an officer, -he had said his name was Rodriguez- , glanced into the room, he was holding a stack of clothes in his hand.

"I brought some fresh clothes for the kid, is it okay if I take him with me for a second?" The officer asked.

Detective Brown nodded, "Of course."

Peter stood up, he followed Officer Rodriguez, he now saw that the officer was also carrying his backpack. Hopefully they hadn't looked inside, his mask was in there, the rest of the suit was at home, May wanted to sew up the hole from the stab wound.

May.

She will never sew anything up for Peter again.

She was killed in a hostage situation only a few hours ago.

Peter couldn't think about her now, he couldn't have a panik attack or a mental breakdown at the moment. He needed to think clearly, to do this right. He didn't have a plan, he never had one.

"I'll be waiting outside." Offizer Rodriguez said when they stopped in front of the men's Bathroom, the officer handed him the clothes as well as his Backpack.

"Thank you." Peter said and turned around towards the door, "Oh and Mr Parker?" Officer Rodriguez spoke up again, "I am truly sorry for your loss."

Peter didn't turn around to look at the man, "Thank you." he reapeted.

Then Peter stepped into the bathroom, it was empty. Perfect.

The first thing Peter did was placing his stuff beside the sink, he then vomitted into the nearest toilet.

Once he had emptied the contents of his stomach into the toilet and flushed it, Peter picked up the clothes.

It was a black T-shirt with the NYPD logo in small on the front and on the back in large lettering.

There was also a black fabric jacket, as well as black tactical pants.

This stuff was probably for police officers, Peter realised.

He quickly changed his clothes, Peter stuffed the wet T-shirt and pants in his backpack.

Then he took out everything he didn't need anymore, his books, writing supplies, notebooks, his phone and more.

He filled up his water bottle, and checked the room. There was a window in the last bathroom stall.

He locked the door of the stall, opened the window and climbed onto the toilet seat.

First Peter threw his backpack out, he knew there were probably camereas outside and in a few minutes there would be officers all around New York searching for him, but he couldn't go into the forster system.

He needed to run, he needed to find the guy that killed May and make him pay for what he did.

The window was small, but Peter had already fit through smaller spaces. He climbed out of the window with no problems, just as landed outside, the door of the Bathroom opened.

"Mr Parker?" Officer Rodriguez asked. The man had probably seen the open window, because the last thing Peter heard was a loud "shit."

Peter pulled on the hood of his jacked, grabbed his Backpack and ran.

He easily jumped over the fence, he could already hear the officers behind him, but Peter ignored them, ignored their shouts for him to stop, to get back, he countinued to run.

After a few minutes the officers lost Peter, he knew they weren't following him anymore.

Peter had to do three things now.

First, he had to find the bus, the police was probably still there but if he would hurry they wouldn't have pictures of his face yet.

Second, he needed to find Jason Novak.

Third, he had to run.

Peter headead towards the nearest empty alley. When he was there he listened, listened for a place with many people, police cars and heartbeats.

He knew where he had to go, he left the alley and choose the fastest way to the bus.

As he got there, he found something that suprised him. It seemed like the bus had been chrashed into a building.

A small monument was erected next to a streetlight.

A group of people had gathered around, Peter recognized a few of them as May’s coworkers. Apparently, they had recognized him too, because they let him through. Many told him they were sorry for what had happened, as if it were their fault.

Peter pulled the hood down as he stood in front of the memorial. He crouched down, a picture of May had been set up. All of this had been set up in such a short time.

Unfortunately, most of it would soon be destroyed by the persistent rain, but it was nice to see something like this.

The people around him were whispering, by now, they all knew who he was.

“I’m sorry, May,” Peter whispered, and he started crying again.

He didn’t even let the tears fall, he wiped them away with his sleeve, now wasn’t the right time to cry. He had to hurry.

“May, I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you.”

Someone placed a hand on Peter’s shoulder, he glanced back, it was one of May’s coworkers. The two of them were friends, he had met her before.

She was crying, her eyes were swollen and her face was red.

Somehow it comforted him to know he wasn’t the only one mourning May.

At that moment, Peter heard a police officer’s radio, “A few minutes ago Peter Parker has escaped from the station.”

He looked at May’s picture one last time. “I’m sorry. I love you, May,” he whispered once more before he stood up.

He turned to May’s coworker, her name was Celina, Peter remembered.

“Thanks,” he said, pulling his hood back up. He started running through the crowd again, but halfway there, one of the officers spotted him. “Peter Parker, stop right there!” he shouted.

Peter did the opposite, he sprinted off. The other officers had also noticed him, they ran after him, and a few got into a car and chased him over the streets.

The civillians who had been standing by the monument just moments ago tried to grab him, but he dodged them all, thanks to his spidey sense.

“Run, Peter,” Celina whispered. He could only hear it thanks to his super hearing, but it gave him strength, and he ran faster. The police officers chasing him gave up one by one, those in the cars lost Peter as he ran through narrow alleys.

After running for ten minutes, he stopped in an alley. He took his water bottle out of his backpack, took a sip, and pulled out his mask. He might not have the full suit, but at least he could swing through New York like this. A few people might recognize him, but he didn’t care.

He put on the mask, stowed his bottle, and activated his web shooters.

The first step was done. Now for step two, he had to find May’s killer and make him pay.

He had seen the man’s face on his way to the memorial, so he knew who to look for.

In fact, it took him only 20 minutes to find Jason Novak.

He landed in front of the man. Without thinking, Peter punched him in the nose.

Peter had stopped thinking clearly the moment he was told that this man had killed his aunt.

“What the hell was that for, man?” Novak asked him in astonishment, holding his nose. It was definitely broken.

Peter saw the gun in his hand, it was the weapon that had killed May.

“You killed someone. The police are looking for you. Do you know that? You took a person’s life.” Peter punched him again, this time in the chest, the crack he heard was satisfying.

“Dude! What the hell does this have to do with you?” Novak asked, he looked like he was about to pass out, no wonder. Peter was using more force than he usually would, he had probably just broken eight of Novak’s ribs.

“What does this have to do with me?! You’re asking what May Parker’s death has to do with me?” Peter wasn’t being loud, his voice was quiet but dripping with venom.

He had never spoken to a criminal like this before.

Peter ripped the mask off his face. “I can tell you what her death has to do with me. My name is Peter Parker.”

The man was shocked, terrified, and definitely feared for his life, but Peter could also see the moment when he realized who exactly he had killed there.

Peter was stepping closer, Novak was slowly sliding down the wall, the gun beside him on the wet cement.

"I-Im sorry I-I didn't know t-that she was your Family, I-I'm sorry."

Peter had a murdourus expression on his face, and his eyes were full with hatred. "Oh I'm sure you are sorry, but you see, it won't bring her back." he said, then grabbed the gun.

Novak's eyes flicked from the gun in Peter's hand to the expression on his face. And Peter could see it in his eyes, the man knew he was going to die in this alley.

"I can't bring her back," Peter slowly raised the gun to Novak's head, "but I can make you pay."

"I-I'm sorry please don't kill m-" Novak stammered out, but Peter didn't even let him finish, he pulled the trigger.

Blood splashed over Peter's face and clothes, more blood was pooling on the floor.

Peter made a quick desicion, with the blood from Jason Novak, the killer of his Aunt May, the man who took a bus full of men, woman and children hostage, Peter drew his spider emblem on the wall.

He wanted them to know who did it, who let the man pay for his actions.

Was it sick? Definetly.

Did Peter care? Not at all.

When he was done, Peter looked at his work. His right hand was completly red, with his left hand he fisched his water bottle from his backpack and opened it. He poured a bit water over his fingers and cleaned them. He watched the red water flood in to the nearest sewer system.

The Police would know who did this, the would know that Spider-Man killed Jason Novak.

The Avengers would know that Peter Parker killed Jason Novak to avenge his Aunt.

The Avengers will be disappointed, maybe even disgusted by Peter's actions.

It wouldn't suprise him.

Does it even matter?

He wasn't planning on returning to the tower anytime soon, he was on the run now. From the Police, the Avengers and some civillains.

Peter put the water bottle, as well as his mask back into his Backpack and after a second he put the gun in too.

He needed to leave, he could already hear the sirens comming, somebody must have called the cops after hearing the shot.

That also meant that soon everybody will know that their friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man killed somebody.

Peter took one last look at the body and his blood drawn symbol on the wall and walked away.

Step two was done.

Now step three, being on the run. Can't be that hard, right?

Peter pulled the hood further down, he didn't have a plan of where he should go.

He should definetly leave New York.

He didn't want to, but New Jersey was probably his best chance. He just had to walk there.

But for today he had to find a place too sleep, it wasn't that late yet, but he would prefer to continue walking at night, the chances of him being catched would be lower in the dark.

While he was searching for an abandoned building, a few people recognized him, he could see it at the way their postures shiftet, their shoulders stiffened and their hearts speed up.

He walked for another hour, until he found an empty building, that apparently wasn't being used since a long time.

Peter choose to sleep now for a few hourse. He laid down on the floor, in one of the empty rooms, with his backpack as a pillow.

It wasn't ideal, but it was the best he could have at the moment, somehow the walls were still so stable, that it didn't rain inside.

Until that moment Peter hadn't even noticed how exhausted he was.

Sleep took him fast, and he was welcoming it with open arms.
