the ghost of betrayal, hungering for absolution that will never arrive.
everything has an echo; even now my treachery is ringing true
it gnashes its teeth and its cries echo. I crave you— but memory is not the same as what I hold, (nothing but my shadow)
yet I cling hard enough to bruise fragile skin,
will you carry scars if not me, with you?
forgive me. wash me clean. my sins are absolute.
my own blood not my own I do not deserve it— so hold me closer; |
he haunts me. he is begging for mercy— I am incapacitated.
someone always leaves, it is second nature and in my mind
in rage or fear I am trapped and I cannot breathe— exhalations of grief; lungs spasming. (breathless to the last)
with clawed hands I want to drag you back to me.
beyond where I will follow the memory of us, it vanishes.
forgive me. forget me. I cannot forgive you.
it stings of regret. is forgiveness worthy? I cannot find you anymore; at least let me pretend. |
