Chapter 1: Day 1: Deal or no deal

Chapter Text

Obsidian, lava, and cell bars made of steel.

This cage was practically a home to Froggy. The black and purple blocks were his walls, the lava coming from under him acting like a blanket for when he slept, and footsteps coming and going from outside were the mobs he would hear at night.

The frog man couldn’t remember how long he had been in here. 6 days, 4 weeks - hell, maybe even a full 3 months, but he can remember the day he got locked in.

Froggy was on the floor, about a million bullets just went through him. An exaggeration, but felt true just by how much pain he was. He could feel his heart shrivel and his lungs trying their best to keep him afloat. The blood from his body was draining quickly, his consciousness was fading in and out, and his breathing became desperate. Even with the number of bullets that shot through him, he was surprised he could stay alive. The bodyguards were cheering; celebrating.

Though Froggy was more focused on his own breathing, he remembers their voices. “We did it!” “Froggydude is dead!” “Our King Grox is now safe!” They revolted in happiness. They called out Grox’s name. They adored him, acting as if he was their only reason for living.

It sickened Froggy. He lost. He could hear the flaunting voices taunting him as Froggy could only feel pain and dread. If he got the chance, he’d curse at himself, but that would make him lose air.

Soon, the cheering stopped. A voice came through to silence their praise, “Alright bet, Froggydude and his goons are down” Grox said in his usual prideful tone. The skeleton turned to one of his bodyguards, placing a button down on the floor. He pressed it down and a bridge appeared, allowing leeway to Froggy’s direction.

“Yo village man, go get his body and bring it back to one of the cells, I’ll be dealing with him in a bit” he said before walking away from the scene. “Yes, our glorious king!” The bodyguard villager said before Grox walked away. Froggy heard a door close before feeling something drag him away from the large platform. Froggy could only remember bits and pieces before he ended up in his cage.

“Nice try Froggydude, get better before messing with our king Grox.” The villager said, a smug grin forming on his face before the door closed.

Since then, he's stayed in here, locked away. Sure, food was provided. Bread and "Grox’s special liquid," but he only consumed it when necessary. Froggy’s wounds had healed. A few scares were visible. It looked like his body had tried its best to heal every gun shot wound, but the soreness never quite left certain area's. It was like his body was taunting him about his loss, never letting him forget every time he moved.

Froggy wished he could say this was like every other time. He knew a way out; he had a plan to defeat Grox, he had everything under control, but no, he didn’t.

Due to Froggy’s injuries and the loss of his villager homies, he has had little to no motivation to fight back. Froggy knew he should do something but, in a way, he didn't want to. Literally if he escaped what was he going to do? Build a base? Find another way to come after Grox? Get new friends to somehow agree with going against their glorious king?

It just sounded pointless now. Froggy was stuck in a cycle, a cycle he didn’t even want to repeat. He had nothing, and for right now, he would like to act as if it was something.

As his internal pity party was blasting off in his head. Froggy heard a click come from behind him. His head snapped towards his door, heart racing as he watched the white door unlock in front of him. Two villagers stepped in holding guns. They were directly pointed at him as a figure followed behind them.

Froggy looked confused before the figure came into view. His heart dropped.

“Ayo Froggydude, what’s going on?” Grox said, his casual voice making the frog man feel bitter. Before Froggy could think, he muttered out “Grox…?” as the man stepped right in front of him.

“Hell yeah it’s me, how's the prison life treating you?” Froggy didn’t reply, just stared at him for a second before looking down at the ground. Grox smirked, “Hey now, don’t be looking so sad, I’ve been thinking about you if it makes you feel better.”

Froggy still stayed silent, his eyes not meeting Grox’s. A sigh came from the withered man. “Oh, come on, not even curious on why I'm here?” As much as Froggy was interested in knowing why Grox was there, Froggy wanted him gone. He wasn’t up for his antics.

Grox scoffed. “No fun” he said, “but I’ll get straight to the point, I got a deal for you, since I don't think you wanna be in this cell for the rest of your life.”

Froggy rolled his eyes. He turned away from Grox and stared at the obsidian wall. "I’m not going to do one of your challenges Grox, forget it!”

“Oh no, no, no man, I’m not wanting you to do a challenge, I want something else from you.” Froggy stopped thinking for a moment. Something else?

“What else is there to want from me?” Froggy muttered, an uneasy feeling rising inside his gut. Grox just smiled.

“You see, since I’m a king, I have a lot of responsibilities but usually, kings have someone by their side; like a queen.” Grox continued “And you see, I don’t really have a queen, or at least someone to rule by me…”

Froggy frowned his brows. He knew what Grox was getting at, but he didn't want to believe it.

“I’m not a person to go after my civilians Froggydude, you know me well enough to understand why," Grox stated, stepping closer to the man. "You’re the only other person who I even have a little interest in, so, Froggydude..." Grox reached for Froggy's hands, trying to hold them as the frog man just stared at him in disbelief.

"I need you to be my bride."

Huh?

A silence was left on the cell. Froggy’s eyes widened as the words “be my bride” repeated in his head. Even the guards that followed looked shocked, glancing at each other like they were asking if they heard that right. But Grox stood firm. As much as Froggy hated to admit it, Grox was right, Froggy knows him. He knows when Grox is messing with him, but he also knows when Grox is serious, and that made Froggy almost want to believe he was hallucinating this whole interaction.

“Your bride…?” Froggy managed to mutter out. Grox just nodded, his hands going back to his sides.

“Hell yeah my guy, I want you to be my queen! In exchange, you can get out of this cage once and for all, hell, maybe even see your homies,” Grox confirmed.

Froggy just stood there. He almost wants to pinch himself as his mind was reeling with thoughts. Grox’s Queen, Grox’s wife, Grox’s husband; Grox was asking him, Froggydude, to be his bride

What the FUCK!

“Are you insane?! What the fuck?" Froggy exploded, immediately surprising Grox. "You want me to be yo-your bride?! Do you hear yourself?!” Froggy came up close to the withered man but Grox stepped away from him. “Ayo chill!” Before he could say more, Froggy stopped in his tracks as both guards quickly put their guns in his face.

“You don’t dare put your filthy hands on our glorious king Grox!”

“You should be thankful he has allowed you to be alive after what you’ve put him through!”

Froggy stayed silent, worried about his head getting blown off if he said anything to anger them more. “Ayo guards, lay off him,” Grox said, the villagers hesitantly put their guns down as they looked towards Grox's direction.

“My glorious king, he was ready to-“

“Relaaax, he’s just having a little trouble accepting the possibility of a new life, chill on him.”

“But my king-“

While the villagers and Grox were talking, Froggy started blurring out their conversation with his own thoughts.

‘A queen… Grox wants me to be his queen- or king or- oh my god, has he lost his mind?!’ It all sounded insane to Froggy. He had been planning to kill Grox for months! He has spent hours of his life conducting how he’ll kill this man, how he’ll get Grox to never see the light of day again.

Froggy has destroyed and crushed this man’s empire so many times. Yet, Grox was standing here, asking him to be his queen?! Froggy knew Grox to be a skeleton, but he didn’t think he was boneheaded as well…

“You hear that Frog-man” Froggy instantly made eye contact with Grox. Almost forgetting he was in the same room as him. “Either you be my queen or you’re gone for life boy.”

Oh, even more wonderful news to Froggy.

“Could you… give me time to think?” The words came out of him instantly "I just need some time..." Grox stared at him for a moment before nodding. “Alright bet” Grox started walking away from Froggy. “You have till tomorrow to give me an answer; hope you choose wisely.” With that, Grox left with his guards following behind.

As the door closed, there was really only one thing going through Froggy's mind.

What was he going to do?
