Work Text:

Bridgette Summers is, undoubtedly, a summer child in every sense of the word. She takes to the water like it's second nature, her skin tanned from hours in the sun and her hair lighter than it should be due to sun bleaching. Born in the peak of summer, she's the season's child through and through, and if anybody knows this, it's Heather.

Heather, who somehow not only managed to become friends with the surfer girl, but managed to ask her out nearly a year ago, having been pushed to do so by Noah and Alejandro, of all people. To her surprise, Bridgette actually accepted her feelings whenever the dark haired girl had confessed, cheeks flushed a bright pink and avoiding those green eyes.

"Then lets date," Heather had said whenever Bridgette returned the confession, nails digging into the palms of her hands. The blonde had taken her hands in hers, intertwining their fingers so she wouldn't leave harsh indents in her skin.

"Okay," Bridgette had replied with a smile, planting a kiss on Heather's cheek. They had spent the rest of the evening hanging out, and whenever Heather had dropped Bridgette back at her house, she managed to receive a kiss on the lips and the softest giggle she had ever heard.

The rest is history, which leads Heather to planning for Bridgette's seventeenth birthday. For the location, she decides on taking them to Wasaga Beach, and plans to invite the blonde's closest friends; Courtney, Gwen, Leshawna, Harold, DJ, Geoff, and Geoff's friend, Brody. She makes a group chat for them, telling them when and where to be, and asking what gifts they bought for Bridgette.

As everyone starts to RSVP, Heather goes over to her girlfriend's house while the blonde is at Courtney's for a sleepover, just so she can talk to Bridgette's mom. Her mom, Angela, or Angie, as she likes to be called, is one of the nicest people Heather has ever met—besides Bridgette, of course.

When Heather arrives at the quaint house, Angie greets her with a warm smile and a cup of green tea, which Heather accepts. "Hello, dear! I wasn't expecting you, or I would have made dinner," the older woman says, inviting the girl to sit beside her on the sofa.

"You're fine, Angie," Heather tells her, taking her place next to the blonde. It's easy to see where Bridgette gets her looks from; her and Angie both have long, blonde hair, though Angie has ocean blue eyes rather than green. "I was wondering if you had any plans for Bridge's birthday, because I wanted to take her to Wasaga Beach for the day. You can come, of course."

Angie's gaze softens—if that's even possible—and her smile widens. "That sounds wonderful! I'm sure she'll love it, and count me in." She winks, pulling Heather in for a side hug that oddly warms her heart.

Once the guest list is confirmed, Heather begins to plan out the day. If they leave Muskoka early in the morning, they can arrive at Wasaga Beach in two hours maximum, which gives them plenty of time to enjoy the beach. She can borrow Geoff's cooler to store snacks and drinks in, and she researches restaurants near the area, looking for vegetarian friendly spots. She decides on a small, family-owned restaurant that Bridgette will love, quickly writing down the number so she can call and make a reservation.

A few days later, Heather is at a small ice cream shop, looking over the ice cream cake options. The cakes are all decorated nicely, flavors displayed on little sheets in front of them. She glances over them, reading the descriptions; chocolate chunk, vanilla and chocolate swirl, neapolitan.

She stops in front of a strawberry ice cream cake, one that is decorated in pastel blue icing with strawberry crumbles on top, acting as sand. It's perfect, Heather decides.

"Can I get one of those?" she asks a worker, pointing at the cake behind the display case. "And can I get custom writing on it?"

Ten minutes later, Heather is walking out of the shop with a pickup date on her receipt and the knowledge that the workers will spell Bridgette's name right because she'd written it out for them.

Her phone beeps from the pocket of her shorts, and she opens it to read a text from Bridgette, asking her to come over for lunch. Heather quickly types back that she will, smiling whenever Bridgette sends back a smiling emoticon, her heart swelling with affection.

Bridgette's birthday will be perfect, there's no doubt in her mind about that.

The special day arrives, and Heather is the first person to tell Bridgette happy birthday, followed by a kiss on the forehead. She'd spent the night at the Summers' house, her and Bridgette watching movies until they fell asleep in each other's arms. When the sun casts light through the gap of Bridgette's curtain, Heather wakes up and kisses her girlfriend awake, murmuring, "happy birthday," between their lips.

"If that's how I get to wake up on my birthday, I wish it was my birthday every day," Bridgette teases, sitting up and stretching her arms over her head, her t-shirt raising the slightest bit to reveal her stomach.

Heather rolls her eyes, flicking Bridgette's nose playfully. "Yeah, yeah, I'm the best. Anyways, I'm pretty sure I smell your mom's french toast." She watches as those green eyes she loves brighten, and smiles whenever Bridgette practically jumps off the bed, holding her hand out for Heather to take.

She takes it, of course. She might be mean, but she's not that mean.

Breakfast with Angie is nice. Her french toast is phenomenal, and Heather spends most of the time watching Bridgette eat her breakfast, taking a few small bites of her own.

"Well, we better get ready," Angie says after all three of them are done eating, and Bridgette raises an eyebrow.

"Are we going somewhere?" she asks, looking between her mom and girlfriend. "Ooh, is it a surprise?"

"Yep, so go get ready!" Heather tells her, receiving a kiss to the temple before Bridgette is heading towards her room, presumably to get ready. Once she hears the door close, she opens up the freezer door, looking at the ice cream cake that she had picked up yesterday.

"It looks lovely, dear," Angie says from beside her, washing up the dishes. "If you want, I can put it in the cooler and get it in the van, if you distract her."

"Deal." Heather makes her way to Bridgette's room, just in time to see her slide on a pastel blue tank top, that's being paired with a pair of low waisted shorts that Heather had bought for her months ago. They look great on her tanned legs.

Noticing Heather's presence, Bridgette turns around to face the other girl, a dopey smile on her face. "I love you," she simply states, wrapping her arms around the raven haired girl in a hug. "You're amazing, you know that?"

Heather rolls her eyes but hugs Bridgette back anyways, an arm looping around her waist. "You can tell me that more after today," she mutters, resting her forehead against Bridgette's. And then, just because she can, she once again says, "happy birthday."

Once the three of them are dressed and the van is packed, they hit the road, Angie driving while Heather and Bridgette both sit in the second row. Heather texts the group chat, making sure that everyone is either leaving or already on their way to the beach, and she's grateful to see that they are.

"Thank God," she murmurs to herself, sliding her phone back into her pocket and watching Bridgette out of the corner of her eye. She's talking to her mom about visiting Vancouver before the school year begins, so she can surf. It's a yearly tradition, she had told Heather once. Every year, Bridgette and Angie fly out west to see their family, and Bridgette gets to surf "the proper way".

They drive for nearly two hours until they arrive at the beach, and Heather immediately spots Courtney's car, as well as a certain teal haired goth sitting on the trunk of it.

Bridgette immediately recognizes where they're at, and her eyes light up, turning to Heather excitedly. "Did you plan this?" she asks, and Heather's certain that if she were standing, she would be bouncing on the balls of her feet.

"Duh, who else?" Heather shoots back, a smile on her lips. How can she not smile, whenever Bridgette looks so excited?

Once the van is parked, Bridgette immediately gets out, nearly tripping over herself. Courtney steps out of her car to greet her, and the two share a hug, Heather and Gwen watching the embrace.

"Everything going good so far?" Gwen interrogates while Bridgette and Courtney are out of earshot. "Geoff, DJ, and Brody will be here in a few minutes, and Leshawna and Harold are across the parking lot."

"Obviously it has," Heather snarks, dialing the number of the restaurant just to triple check their reservations. "And they better get here soon. They can make themselves useful and carry the coolers."

The boy trio arrive in one piece a few minutes later, and while Gwen greets them, Heather confirms that they still have their ten person reservations. DJ carries the cooler with the drinks and frozen snacks, while Geoff and Brody carry the cooler with the cake, making sure to be careful after Heather threatened to cut their dicks off if they dropped it.

The group find a spot on the beach and lay out towels to sit on, as well as set up umbrellas (mostly for Gwen's pasty ass). Bridgette decides to go in the water, dragging Heather and Courtney along with her, and Geoff and Brody follow, chasing after the girls like madmen.

Heather makes sure to splash water in their eyes, not even trying to make it look like an accident. Why should she?

They wade in the water for what feels like hours, and once they get back on the shore, Heather decides to reveal the cake, just so it doesn't melt.

Bridgette's smile is so bright it can rival the Sun, Heather finds herself thinking. Angie fishes out the candle, carefully lighting it, and the group sings happy birthday before Bridgette is blowing out the flame, her eyes squeezed shut.

"What did ya' wish for, Bridge?" Geoff asks, arm slung around the blonde girl's shoulder. Brody is at his side, the two looking like excited puppies.

"If I tell you it wouldn't come true!" Bridgette reminds him, and after Angie takes pictures of them, they each get a slice of cake, sitting on the towels as they eat.

Heather sits next to Bridgette, because of course she is, and a tanned knee meets her pale one, sending goosebumps down her spine. "Thanks for this," the surfer girl says, a bit of frosting stuck on the corner of her lip, and Heather finds herself scooping it off with her finger before either of them can blink.

"It's no big deal," Heather replies with a shrug, though there's a small smile on her lips as she says it. Of course it's a big deal to her. Bridgette deserves the best, and while Heather might not be the best person, she can spoil the girl she loves.

Bridgette smiles once again, and Heather wishes this moment could last forever. She takes out her phone and snaps a quick picture, though even if she hadn't, the image of that perfect smile is engraved in her mind, and probably will be until the day she dies.
