Derelict's Wake

Chapter 1

Notes:

July was no lie! Even if it was a rather close call.

Strap in as this is just the start. Fair warning however, the pacing of this fic has turned into a tortoise taking it's pet snail for a walk. That is to say, there is no reason to run from this fire as it's burning so slow, it'll take years to be of any concern.

If that sounds up your alley then I am thrilled you're reading! If not, I am terribly sorry but I can't apologise for poor taste. (:

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Enid froze as she tried to process what was happening. She had never heard her roommate exclaim much of anything before nor the psychic to have really anything other than contempt in her voice no matter who she was talking to.

Her claws retracted in her confusion and the scent of blood infiltrated her senses. Realising what she had done to her girlfriend’s uncle, the wolf’s eyes went wide as all words died on her tongue.

“Seems my protégée has outsourced her learning. Can’t expect to get better if someone else is fighting your battles.”

He chuckled and he stood up. Wiping the blood and sweat off his forehead with his coat sleeve.

“It is bad form to take defeat without grace. It is your own fault that you were incapable of anticipating a counter to your attempt.”

He only chuckled harder in response and put his hand out for the wolf to shake.

“Fester Addams, to whom do I owe the pleasure of releasing my blood?”

Wednesday stood in front of Enid and glared at her uncle.

“You will do well to not electrocute her during the remainder of your life. Otherwise it will be very short.”

He giggled as he held out his two index fingers, letting sparks of blue electricity to arc between them.

“Shouldn’t have expected any less from my favourite niece. Does that mean I will be remaining in the dark for who my thwarter is?”

The psychic kept her glare but moved slightly to the side

“This is Enid, my roommate at Nevermore and girlfriend. Enid this is Uncle Fester.”

He chuckled as he rolled his eyes at the couple.

“As bad as your dad are you? Here I thought you took more after me.”

He shifted his gaze to look at the colourful werewolf.

“Get over her toxic personality, did you?”

Suddenly Wednesday was taken back to when she had last seen her uncle. She realised it was when she and Enid had their fallout after the Gate’s mansion. As far as he was aware his niece’s roommate had left her and she was living alone.

Not wanting to think about those events again, the psychic looked over at her strangely silent girlfriend and noticed she seemed to be completely unresponsive.

“Enid? Is something wrong? Why did you come to the forest?”

The wolf blinked a few times and let out a quick breath.

“Oh my God! I can’t believe I hurt your uncle. I’m so sorry!”

Wednesday stared at her for a moment, trying to find the words to reassure her girlfriend she hadn’t done anything wrong. It seems her uncle was quicker to know what to say. Or at least he thought he did.

“You kidding me? You should see what this one did to me when she found out I had snuck sugar into her coffee. I couldn’t walk for a week!”

Thinking back to the time, the psychic wore a smile on her face. Not caring to hide it from the two people she was with.

Seemingly wanting to add to the moment, Fester raised his hand quickly and couldn’t stop his chuckle as he zapped the young raven.

Wednesday’s head flew back as her back straightened and her eyes went wide. She forgot how much she enjoyed the sensation when it wasn’t being accompanied with a vision.

Though she kept in her satisfaction as she thought she could give Enid a demonstration.

As soon as Fester had stopped his electric onslaught, she kicked her leg out and struck him just where she needed to for him to fall down.

He caught himself on his knee, letting out a loud laugh as he shook his head.

“At least that one will heal quicker. You’re losing your touch Wednesday.”

Oddly angered by her uncle’s words, she debated taking more of his blood but she resisted.

She knew her girlfriend likely didn’t enjoy what was happening anyway and she didn’t want to make things worse for her.

“You’ll learn just how wrong you are when you least expect it.”

The psychic realised her bangs were rather frazzled from the electrocution and cursed how she wasn’t going to be able to fix them until she got back to the manor.

“You’d think I would have gotten used to the Addams you know, brand of affection.”

The wolf said with a nervous laugh and Wednesday took her hand in hopes of helping ease whatever was going on in her best friend’s mind.

Fester groaned and rolled his eyes once more.

“I’m not getting caught in the middle like your parents. I’ll be going to pay them a visit actually. They won’t see me coming.”

With that he was gone, surprisingly nimble as he took off towards the mansion.

The psychic led Enid back to where she was originally reading and sat them both down.

“That was likely the tamest first encounter you could have had with Uncle Fester. I do hope you are not harbouring any ill emotions. He is less likely to contain himself when others are around. That is part of the reason he always gets arrested.”

The wolf nodded, letting out a small sigh and putting her head on the raven’s shoulder.

“It’s um, it’s weird I guess? You know everything with my mom. With Esther. How she hurt me over the years, it’s just weird that I’ve done the same thing but no one cares.”

Wednesday shook her head softly and rested it on the blonde’s.

“They are not comparable. You were defending me and it was accidental. Uncle Fester is much like myself and Pugsley. To a lesser extent Father as well. Pain is not synonymous with suffering and there are many types of pain we find enjoyment in. Pugsley himself is rather partial to water based torment.”

Completely unsure how to respond, Enid just settled into the embrace. Enjoying the warm summer day, she thought to herself she was definitely going to need to take a swim in that lake soon.

“Each to their own I suppose. I’m glad I didn’t like cause him suffering or whatevs. Strong first impression though. Glad you made sure he wasn’t gonna shock me, deffo do not see the appeal.”

She bumped the psychic with her shoulder before settling her head back to where it was.

“I remember you saying you would not enjoy an electric shock so I thought to ensure it would not happen. If Uncle knows what is good for him he will adhere to my words.”

The wolf nodded once more and smiled at her own words.

“If you are worried about needing my permission for that, it's blanket. If he ever shocks me, do whatever you think is just.”

Wednesday nodded against the blonde’s head and they both sat there in their own thoughts for a while.

Enid was only marginally surprised at what she had just said. There was an obvious emotion that fuelled her at this moment and she couldn’t believe what it was. Jealousy.

She had never heard her roommate speak very loudly and she rarely gave much of a smile but her uncle had made her do both just with his presence.

The wolf couldn’t help but feel a slight bit annoyed at that. She would never want her girlfriend to change for her but she wished she could be the one to bring such visible joy to the raven.

She knew Wednesday liked her, of course. They were dating and the psychic had wonderful ways of showing her affection. She had smiled many times in her company, every time because of the wolf. Until now.

Wanting to ignore it, she pushed the thought out of her mind and remembered why she had originally sought out her roommate.

“Oh I totes forgot why I even came here. I was adding songs to my new playlist but I’m sure there is tons I’ve forgotten. Since I played them around you all the time I wondered if you had any clue what they were. Not that I’m expecting you to know the titles but like any lyrics you could remember would be great.”

Without missing a beat, the raven parroted many of the words she had heard coming from the colourful phone over the months they had known each other.

“OhEmGee that was so helpful! How on Earth could I forget Can’t Stop! That was like the first song you heard of mine.”

Wednesday gave a small shrug, possibly missing the significance.

“Let us return to the manor, I am curious to learn how Fester had greeted Father and if he has anything to show for it.”

Ignoring whatever feelings the newest Addams the blonde had learned of brought in her, Enid nodded and took her best friend’s hand as they walked back to the mansion.

* * *

Every member of the Addams family was in the entry hall as the couple arrived. Each in turn giving a hearty greeting to them as they walked in, Lurch seemed to be lingering in the doorway to the kitchen. The wolf assumed he must be ready to get started on dinner.

As Enid locked eyes with Fester again, he chuckled and winked at her.

“I hear you’ve already met my brother, loba! And given him a proper welcome, no less! You never cease to make me proud, mi terremoto vivo.”

Slightly startled, the wolf again couldn’t find what to say, merely nodding at Mr Addams.

“You always were such a softie, brother. No wonder Wednesday’s lost her edge.”

The blonde’s eye’s flicked over to her girlfriend and she saw the psychic’s own eye twitch at her uncle’s words.

“And you always were the foolish one, brother. I’m sure you’ll be regretting that when you’re struggling to walk home again.”

They both broke into laughter and she noticed Mrs Addams looking up slightly while shaking her head with a smirk on her lips.

“Always competing you two. I think you’ll find, Fester, Wednesday has gotten sharper since you last saw her.”

Enid could easily tell her roommate was not enjoying being spoken about while she was in the room and was trying to think of a reasonable excuse to get them both away.

Out of the blue, Fester was hopping on one foot and was clutching the other in his hands, he giggled as he looked over at the raven.

The wolf assumed she must have used her magic to go unnoticed.

“Got a few new tricks then? That should prove useful. Oh! Do tell how everything with that Hyde shook out last year. I heard Nevermore went up in flames! What fun!”

Her gaze shifted to the other two members of the Addams family who hadn’t spoken yet, at least the ones who seemed capable. Pugsley had Thing on his shoulder and was next to Fester hanging off every word his uncle was saying much like his sister. Grandmama was sitting on a chair, slightly away from Mrs Addams but had just gotten up.

“Wednesday, why don’t you take the boys and share your tale of woe. Morticia and I have been waiting to get back to the greenhouse. Rosazul, would you care to join us?”

Feeling much more comfortable in both Mrs Addams and Grandmama’s presence, the blonde nodded and watched as the rest of the Addams took off for somewhere else in the mansion.

* * *

The elder psychic let out a sigh as they disappeared down the hall.

“Must he always be so purposely agitating?”

Grandmama laughed as she rolled her eyes and opened the door to the greenhouse with a flick of her hand.

“You should have seen him when he was a teenager. I thank every day I won’t have to go through that again. I do wish you the worst for Pugsley.”

Mrs Addams smiled sweetly and shook her head, grabbing her black gardening gloves from the table alongside a trowel.

“I think you forget I did indeed and he’s far too sweet for that. I caught him writing letters to Wednesday while she was at Nevermore.”

Enid didn’t feel out of place as she was standing waiting to be told what to do. After spending so much time with the two older women, it was surprisingly difficult to feel awkward even when it seemed like she was eavesdropping on a conversation.

“Curse that don’t change. Gomez always was a hopeless idealist but that wasn’t true for Cosimo. You don’t know what will change a person.”

The dove shook her head again as she knelt down to start digging plots for some new plants.

“No sense thinking of what if’s. Enid dear, would you be able to hand me that bag over there?”

Complying without any hesitation, it took the wolf mere seconds to complete the task she was given.

“Rosazul, what do you think of Fester, hmm?”

The blonde spoke without filter as she was too comfortable around the pair to remember she was talking about one of their sons.

“He kinda seems like he wants to annoy Wens, which I’m not a fan of. I get I don’t really know their dynamic but he didn’t seem to like the news that we were dating too much.”

Thinking about what Fester had asked her when he learned they had started going out. ‘Get over her toxic personality, did you?’ Her roommate certainly had an honest mind and never worried about how others would react but Enid would never have considered the raven to be toxic.

Although the wolf would likely react very differently if she knew Fester was in fact quoting Wednesday when the psychic was feeling abandoned after their fallout.

The elder witch cackled while Mrs Addams smirked and let out her own small laugh.

“I remember how he reacted when he learned I had started dating Gomez. He had a similar reaction, I believe he gets jealous quite easily.”

At least it appeared the feeling was mutual.

“What happened after? They still seem really close.”

It was Grandmama’s turn to pitch in.

“Oh of course! He wouldn’t be able to survive without the family. He wants you to think he’s a solo lobo but he is unable to help his own desire to be around the family, especially Wednesday and Pugsley. A curse few Addams have managed to break, not that I would encourage such nonsense.”

A little lost in the witch’s words, Enid felt comforted by the sentiment at the very least.

“So you think he’ll be okay with me?”

What she really wanted to ask is if Wednesday would choose to spend most of the summer with him instead but she couldn’t bring herself to admit such a worry had even crossed her mind.

“He’d be a fool not to, although he certainly acts like one at times.”

The elder psychic laughed at Grandmama’s words and added her own thoughts.

“I am certain he will get over himself. It is not something you ought to worry yourself with dear. Fester can be rather extreme in, well every way but he doesn't hold ill will, perhaps simply a lack of maturity.”

“I blame his pension for getting lobotomies and shocking himself for decades, hasn't made him any smarter that's for sure.”

Assuming the elder witch was being deadly serious in her statement, she felt conflicted about her other assumptions towards the electric psychic.

She couldn't quite blame him completely if he really had done that to himself over years, surely that would be affecting his mental health but was it really an excuse if he was responsible and willing?

Deciding it was a rather complex topic, the wolf concluded to debate later. No matter what the reason was, he had already come across as aggressive and Enid Sinclair wasn't going to roll over for anyone. At least not for anyone who wasn't a short brilliant raven.

Grandmama was reclining on a large chair while the other two worked away at the garden, the blonde doing exactly as she was told and receiving many compliments as she did so.

Completely forgetting about her earlier worries, Enid was engrossed in planting and measuring out water to make sure she was doing everything as directed.

“I must say you have taken quite the shine to gardening, are you sure you’ve not got a hidden talent?”

The wolf shrugged as she finished watering all the flowers in the row she was working on.

“Think Wens just gets her teaching skills from you, it's super easy when you're told what to do.”

Mrs Addams smiled sweetly as she put her trowel down and wiped down her gloves but the elder witch was faster to respond.

“Always quick to put herself down this one, we’ve got our work cut out for us to teach her what she deserves.”

She laughed a little nervously as she had forgotten how brash the eldest Addams often was.

“Grandmama, I don’t think we need to be so harsh on her. She’s had a rough time before Wednesday was able to help get her away from all that.”

Grandmama rolled her eyes and tutted as she spoke.

“I suppose she does give herself a hard enough time as it is.”

The dove rolled her own eyes and shook her head. Although the blonde had recovered from the initial surprise and wanted to show she wasn’t feeling awkward.

“I’m sure you all will teach me everything I’ll need. Oh actually on that note Wens taught me how to throw knives over the last semester! And she made me a beautiful knife set for my birthday.”

In lieu of having the gift to show, she went into great detail to explain how it looked.

“Love it to death, it’s so insanely adorable I honestly can’t describe it just how much I really love it and she carved a little unicorn for me as well!”

She repeated her earlier choice and described her other present as well.

“It is without a doubt the best thing I own and it was to celebra- oh my god! I can’t believe I haven’t thanked you like really properly yet! There isn’t any kind of thanks big enough but I still want you to know just how much it means to me that I don’t have to stay at Nevermore until I graduate. Not that Nevermore isn’t great! It is but the idea of losing basically all of my autonomy is like actually a really bad nightmare, I am so insanely happy I do not have to live through!”

Completely lost in her rambling and gushing about how thoughtful the gifts her girlfriend had made for her were, Enid hadn’t even realised she had interrupted her train of thought multiple times.

* * *

The elder witch grinned as she heard about her granddaughter’s gifts and Mrs Addams smile was as strong as it could have been.

“Wednesday has never been one to do things by halves. I am glad to have alleviated your worries but I assure you darling no thanks are necessary. You have already mentioned your appreciation and we are all happy to have you here instead. It would be unthinkable to believe we would leave a member of the family unable to come home for any reason.”

The wolf would never be used to how she was so easily accepted into the Addams as though she was a member of the family and she would always thank the day she met her roommate.

“Oh but I absolutely need to thank everyone individually for such an amazing birthday present and messages! I don’t think I’ve ever, actually no. I know I’ve never felt so included before and I can’t tell you just how much that means to me, I never thought I would ever feel so happy.”

Unfortunately feeling rather emotionally vulnerable for some reason, the words just fell out of her mouth before the blonde had any chance to think about them.

The other two had no issues with her helpless mental dumping and the dove wrapped an arm around her, mindful of her dirty gloves.

“You are more than welcome, my darling wolf. You are just as much a member of this family as any other. Oh of course, that reminds me.”

The elder psychic wiped her gloves before taking them off and placed them onto the table. Taking a small card out of a bag Enid hadn’t noticed was there and handing it to the wolf.

Recognising it as the same kind of card that Wednesday handed her when the psychic had persuaded her to use it to pay for the Spotify account, the blonde was unsure why Mrs Addams had given her one.

“What’s this?”

Although she did know what it was, she thought it would be less rude to pretend she didn’t.

“Just like Wednesday and Pugsley, We’ve set you up with an allowance until you are eighteen. You’ll just have to find out what happens after that on your next birthday.”

Realising just what she had been given, Enid held the card back out in front of her.

“Oh no, I can’t take this! I’m already living in your house and eating your food without paying, I can’t take more money from you.”

In truth, the wolf had spent a few nights worrying in general what she was going to do after her pack had kicked her out, leaving her without any money at all.

It wasn’t like her parents had set her up with a fortune but she was glad to have anything to buy her other essentials that wasn’t the food that was served at Nevermore.

She had to resort to asking Yoko for a few bucks to help out as she rationed the very last of the money she had gotten from her parents. Trying her best to ignore the issue until it became impossible.

It had however never crossed her mind to ask her girlfriend or the psychic’s family for any financial help. She couldn’t bring herself to even let them think she might be interested in the raven for that reason at all.

“Don’t be silly, Enid. You are more than entitled to a monthly allowance, not to mention you aren’t living in our house. You are living in your house.”

Grandmama interrupted the pair before the elder psychic could continue.

“Besides, you are not able to return it.”

“Grandmama! I thought I told you not to curse it!”

* * *

Wednesday had shared most of what had happened last year with the Hyde and Laurel Gates with Fester, as her father and brother had known more than her uncle. Although she hadn’t actually shared that much with the two more permanent residents of the Addams mansion.

“Seems things only got more fun after I left! Shame the police had to find my ride otherwise I would have been able to stick around a little longer.”

Feeling no loss at the sudden disappearance of her uncle as the only person to blame was himself. She voiced her opinion without hesitation.

“You were the one who picked the least conspicuous vehicle possible. If you do not want to be run out of everywhere you go then you should not let yourself be caught so easily.”

The electric psychic chuckled as he looked at Gomez before settling his gaze back down to Wednesday.

“Rich coming from you, I believe you got yourself incarcerated twice last year. I only got caught once myself.”

Having very little to argue against what her uncle was saying, she glared at him as she stood stiffly.

“And I spent only one night behind bars. Both times, I condemn the company I had.”

While the psychic didn’t truly hold any blame towards her mother for not looking out while they were grave digging or when the Nightshades had told Weems about her torturing the Hyde. In the end it had worked out so there was no use wasting her time on that trivial nonsense.

She was merely going to be less reliant on them to keep her out of jail from now on.

Pugsley finally offered words instead of random sounds at hearing the raven’s tales.

“How come I’m the only one here who hasn't been arrested? I should have bet against myself.”

Gomez chuckled as he wrapped an arm around his son’s shoulders and squeezed him to his side.

“All in time, mi volcán volátil. It took Wednesday until she was at Nevermore after all. Even then your mother certainly played a part in that too.”

At the mention of the academic institution Wednesday saw her brother’s expression change in a way she had seen before but never in the mention of a school.

Unsure how she should broach her hypothesis in front of the two adults, she decided to remove them from the equation.

“Father, I believe Uncle wishes to show your complacency in the art of the blade.”

Gomez looked at his brother with a devilish grin on his face.

“Now, why didn’t you say so Fester? Come! You shall be proven wrong twice over!”

The older Addams didn’t care to argue how he hadn’t said such a thing as he chuckled behind his brother, heading to the large hall they often used for sparing.

As Pugsley turned to follow them, the psychic grabbed his arm and used his momentum to spin him around into the nearby bathroom.

She rolled up her sleeves as she walked towards where he had ended up and grabbed his hair, forcing his head back as she turned on the shower.

Not giving him any time to talk yet she turned the water to as cold as it could go and held her brother’s head under it.

She pulled him back a few seconds later as she savoured the freezing water running down her hands and Pugsley’s choking and spluttering.

“What are you hiding?”

He was blinking the water out of his eyes as he spoke very quickly.

“I’m not hiding anything!”

The raven tightened her grip on his hair and turned the pressure up on the shower as she forced his head back under. Making sure to leave him under for longer this time before she pulled him back out.

Pugsley was panting as he tried to get as much air before he knew he would be thrown back under the arctic water.

“You are hiding something in relation to Nevermore.”

The boy’s eyes went wide as he clearly understood Wednesday wasn’t bluffing with her knowledge.

“N… no I’m not.”

At his stutter it was undeniable he was lying so his head ended right back under the water for the longest time yet.

“This will quickly turn unpleasant if you intend to keep the truth hidden from me.”

At the threat Pugsley folded and told her about wanting to attend the academic institution, as well as the conversation with Enid where he claimed he was going to tell their mother about it.

“And you still have not.”

The psychic didn’t need to ask as he was obvious with his shy expression.

“You are a coward, Pugsley. You will be correcting that shortly.”

She pulled him completely away from the shower and he let out a pathetic whine.

“One more?”

The raven rolled her eyes and forced his head back under the shower before turning it off and throwing him back into the hallway. At least the water had managed to mat down her bangs to some degree.

* * *

The elder witch cackled as her head flew back.

“I knew she wouldn’t accept it so easily so I had to ensure it wouldn’t be sneaked back in any way.”

The dove let out a sigh as the blonde realised she couldn’t actually let go of the card in her hand.

Internally freaking out at her inability to release the black plastic from her grip, she tried to keep a neutral face but Mrs Addams noticed straight away.

“Oh don’t worry darling, it is merely wilful magic. As long as you intend to give the card back you will be unable to. It will not prevent you from putting it away.”

Just as the elder psychic had said she was able to put it in her pocket without any issues.

“Enid wouldn’t have tried to sneak it back to me, Grandmama. What are you like?”

“Effective, that’s what.”

Unable to help letting out a small laugh as the two argued slightly, Enid shrugged a little and conceded.

“I guess I don’t have much choice in the matter but just cuz I havta keep the card doesn’t mean I havta use it! Unless you’ve cursed that too.”

Suddenly thinking that might be just as likely as a possibility, she had no idea the limits of magic.

The elder witch cackled as she shook her head.

“That would have been a smarter move but not one I took. I will note it down for next time however.”

Having no idea what ‘next time’ could mean, The wolf just gave a shy smile as she shrugged once again.

“I do really appreciate it, TeeBeeH I've been thinking of trying to get a job somewhere to help out. Even though Nevermore serves food there is still other stuff I need to buy and since I don’t have any allowance from my… well from my old pack anymore, I really didn’t know what I was going to do. I’ve kinda been too worried about actually trying to go for one though cuz I know I’m going to have issues with Normies and I can’t be bothered dealing with that and I really don’t have much time in between all my clubs to hang out with Wens, nevermind keeping a part time job as well.”

The dove gave a sympathetic smile as she put her arm back around the blonde, not needing to worry about her gloves anymore.

“I can understand your struggles. I didn’t have much, especially if you wanted to compare me to Gomez, during my time at Nevermore. We were from rather different families ourselves.”

Enid hadn’t really considered what Mrs Addams was like before she was Mrs Addams. Finding the idea quite interesting, she wanted to learn more.

“Is it totes weird if I ask about that? I like just now realised I don’t even know like anything about what you were like when you were at Nevermore. Oh wait, you were in the fencing club, right?”

Remembering the photo Wednesday had pointed out on the psychic’s first day at the school when she had given her a tour.

“Morticia was the captain of the fencing club, not to mention the president of the seance society. And that wasn’t the only society she was in.”

Recalling another picture she had seen in a certain hidden library, she knew exactly what Grandmama had meant.

“You mean the Nightshades? There is a photo of you and Mr Addams hanging on the wall.”

The elder psychic laughed softly as she squeezed her to her side.

“I should have known you would be in the social club, although I do admit I lament how it has strayed from its original goals.”

The energetic wolf was stuck between telling the truth about how Wednesday had single-handedly brought the group back to its roots and likely keeping the raven’s own silence towards her mom. Deciding a compromise would be best for everyone involved, including herself.

“I actually learned about the Nightshades with everything with shi- Crackstone last year. I found out two of my friends and the guy I was ‘dating’ at the time were in the society but they hadn’t told me about it. Honestly I had a bit of a hard time after I learned that, I mean it wasn’t that big a deal when I found out Ajax hadn’t told me, especially since I realised I was gay but finding out like my two closest friends where in a social club without me did really suck.”

Still not quite realising what was making her so honest, Enid continued speaking without giving it any thought.

“It apparently had something to do with their families all being rich or something but it just felt like they didn’t want me around while they had their parties and stuff. Really Wens has been my rock through this semester even before we started going out. She has just been there for me even when I didn’t realise I needed it.”

“That is completely understandable, darling. I hope everything has worked out between all of you though. It is a shame to lose friends over avoidable mistakes. At least when they are worth your time, of course.”

“Well I am cursing that you gave them a suitable punishment for such a betrayal!”

Laughing at the complete difference between the two older women's statements, Enid smiled and understood exactly why she felt so comfortable in their presence.

* * *

Wednesday walked behind her brother to make sure he was actually going to confess to their mother.

They headed to the greenhouse assuming the dove would still be there as they hadn’t spent that much time away from the other three.

She thought to explain something she didn’t expect the youngest Addams to have considered.

“It is unlikely you will be able to attend this year. Applications have already closed for the school year and they are not known for making exceptions.”

Pugsley gave a small shrug as they turned the corner just before the greenhouse.

“They made one for you right?”

Unsure how to express that was likely due to her high grades and Weems being their mother’s roommate, neither of which were in her brother’s favour, so the psychic just gave a vague answer.

“A second exception for the same family is even more unlikely. Your attendance would only be delayed by a year however. You will end up with at least the same amount of attendance at Nevermore as I have.”

Visibly comforted was not a reaction she expected to ever receive from Pugsley but it was undeniable that the raven had just said something to make him more at ease rather than less.

Something else unthinkable happened as Wednesday was relieved to see the sight of their mother as it let her ignore whatever she had done to her brother in favour of pawning him off to another psychic.

“Darlings! What a lovely surprise. Something awful must truly be happening for all my children to be in desire of my presence.”

Morticia laughed softly as she took the seat normally reserved for Grandmama. Assuming that must mean the elder witch had decided to leave in favour of better company, that being her own, the psychic wished she could do the same.

However, needing to sufficiently intimidate her brother into telling the truth, she had to stay.

Taking the easiest presence to be around, she walked over to Enid’s side as she kept Pugsley in her eye line.

“Hey Wens! Wait, why are you soaked? And why is Pugs?”

The wolf looked the pair up and down but with the raven’s wet hands and sleeves and the boy’s completely soaked head and front, she was clearly able to guess at what happened.

“Some water based torment to reveal hidden truths. I believe Pugsley has something to tell mother that he has been withholding.”

The young boy stood obviously nervous but she knew he wouldn’t dare to go against what she had asked of him.

“Oh? Pugsley dear, what is it that Wednesday is forcing you to confess to?”

Shifting slightly on his feet, the blonde stared at the two siblings and must have made a connection.

Without hesitating, she joined the conversation.

“Is this what you told me after we talked about the talent show?”

The youngest Addams nodded mutely.

“Do you want me to say, at least to get the hard bit over with?”

He gave another mute nod, causing Wednesday to sigh but Enid ignored her and looked over at the dove instead.

* * *

“Pugsley said he’s been wanting to attend Nevermore. Mostly to get away from Normies, which I am in total support of, by the way. I think he’d really fit in and enjoy it there.”

Morticia was already beaming at the teenagers but her smile was even greater at her son being helped by his sister.

“Of course you can apply to Nevermore, Pugsley. It shouldn’t have escaped my notice you might wish to. Although I will warn you, I don't think I will be able to get you in this year. With applications already closed, I would need to go through the board and I believe I have already pushed them as far as I can. For now.”

Wednesday didn’t let her questioning mind appear on her face. To her knowledge their mother hadn’t spoken to the board at all, now she assumed the dove must have done so to get her into Nevermore in the first place but that seemed unlikely to affect things anymore since almost a full year had passed.

Pugsley’s expression didn’t change to the expected sadness the psychic would have assumed from the bad news.

“Yeah, Wednesday said something like that but that still means I get like three years at Nevermore which is way better than nothing!”

Morticia laughed softly as she closed the distance to wrap her son in a hug. Pugsley didn’t need any convincing as he returned the embrace.

“Nevermore is a notably academic institution so you will need to spend this year working on your own if you want to get accepted.”

The raven was the only one brave enough to say the uncomfortable truth about the young boy’s lack of scholarly rigour. Though she wasn’t sure if it was all that important with the dove’s seeming sway over the educational board.

Somehow still surprising his sister, Pugsley smiled and nodded.

“I’ve actually been working on that! I’ve gotten the best results I ever have!”

The elder psychic gave another squeeze to him before releasing him from her hold.

“That is very true, darling. You’ll certainly be able to keep it up and I know you’ll get accepted without issue.”

The raven wondered if their mother only knew that because she would threaten the board into compliance.

She hadn’t thought Morticia held any power in the educational decisions the school made but she had been wrong about her mother in the past.

“Besides, I can actually use the year figuring out my psychic ability without worrying about it much! I really get what you mean Enid and I’m more excited about it now than worried.”

The dove smiled sweetly at the wolf once more as Wednesday knew she had been trying to help him realise that on his own.

“No worries, Pugs! We’ll hang out all the time next year! Well next year’s next year but you get me.”

* * *

It was strange to Wednesday that she would ever become a social creature but as she sat on the bed of a red haired werewolf, it couldn't be argued that she was doing anything else but socialising.

It was easier to ignore when there was a mystery to be solved and a stalker to be caught but now everything was over, it was clear the only reason the psychic was spending time with Erin was to be with someone who didn't seem to hate her presence.

For the raven however, the reason she was visiting was to practice her powers and learn new skills. The fact she was seemingly getting close to another werewolf was completely inconsequential.

Even with all the growth she had done over the past year at Nevermore, she was conning herself into believing she hadn't changed much at all.

“Enid played the songs that you requested I listen to.”

Erin bounced on the bed, wearing her excitement on her face with a wide grin.

“I know I said things were gonna get heated if you didn't like Elton John and I'm gonna admit I know you probably don't and I don't respect you for that. People can have the wrong opinions all they want.”

Surprised by the older wolf doubling down on that earlier claim, Wednesday was rather lost for what to say. She wasn't trying to be argumentative but she couldn't just like something because someone else wanted her to.

“I'm totally joking, by the way. Just in case that wasn’t clear. Like I will go tonto if you like wanna have a debate about it but I get not everyone likes everything obviously.”

At least glad to have a better understanding of the redhead, she nodded and assumed she was meant to express how she actually felt about each song.

Not giving any criticisms as she hadn't for Enid as it seemed this wolf wouldn't take those very well either. Even if she did, the raven didn't see much point in expressing them anyway.

They weren't the ones who had created the songs so expressing how they were flawed wouldn't make any difference. Besides, she didn't quite understand but she certainly knew people could still enjoy things with flaws.

“In the end, Enid created a playlist for me. I do not know if I will be using it particularly often but I did add the first and last recommendations to it. Just in case.”

The redhead's green eyes lit up at the unexpected news and didn't waste any time in expressing her surprise.

“Oh my god! I can't believe you actually liked any of them! Well maybe the last one.”

She giggled softly as the smile was still plastered on her lips.

“But I will say I'm positively surprised you added Born This Way, that song was my anthem basically since the first time I heard it!”

Wednesday gave a nod as she was somewhat taken aback herself but she knew exactly why she had gained an attachment towards the strange pop song.

“Enid said she has a similar penchant for what the song meant to her and I believe discussing such has caused her proclivity to infect me as well. Although she was less fond of the latter.”

Erin smirked but laughed a little nervously.

“Oh I prob should have given a trigger warning for that one, huh? Oh well, hope I didn’t cause too much issue with her. It’s still a great song though. It is one I thought you would actually be into so super hyped I was right about that.”

The psychic gave a shrug as she didn’t see that it should have caused much issue.

“She was not upset if that is a worry. A song about a beach suicide does seem to be more along the lines of my own tastes than Enid’s.”

The redhead laughed more sincerely, nodding along with the psychic’s words.

Oh yeah, me too! Definitely helps that it’s totally a lesbian song, anything remotely queer is very much up my alley.”

Realising that was very likely why this werewolf liked the other song much similar to the blonde’s more recent interpretation.

“Enid also shared a similar view on Born This Way, although she has only been aware of her own queer relation to the lyrics since we have been dating.”

Still feeling rather undeserving of using such a word, Wednesday hadn’t spent any more time thinking about what her own relationship to the word was. She had no plans on doing so either, it didn’t feel like it was worth the consideration at the time. It could always be done later.

“Hmm oh that’s totally fair. Guess it’s kinda different cuz I’ve known I was bi since I was like thirteen, didn’t come out until later, of course. Don’t know what made it click for me but I kinda just always knew. My ‘parent’s’ biggest regret was probably giving me unfiltered internet access cuz it let me learn they were full of shit and none of their ideals made any sense.”

Erin made finger quotes as she spoke of the people who adopted her and the raven was unable to stop herself from asking what was on her mind.

“Enid has had hesitation to truly cut the people who abused her for her entire life out of her mind. After the first time I encountered Esther I knew she did not deserve to be called Enid’s mother. However she still occasionally refers to her as such. I have hoped to show how she is a member of the Addams as much as I am myself but I am unsure how to have her understand just how everyone else also feels as such.”

Completely lost in sharing her thoughts, Wednesday wasn’t sure if what she had spoken followed what the older wolf had said in the way it had in her mind or why she had even said anything on the topic.

“Aww that’s so sweet! You’ve really spoiled that wolf.”

The psychic couldn’t find a negative emotion in her words as the redhead was smiling brightly while laughing.

“It took me a while to really understand how they weren’t my parents in any way that mattered. After my birth parents left me, I thought anyone would be better than that but they didn’t do anything they should have done for me. The bare minimum was their favourite motto. I’d probably just say give it some time, I’m sure she also understands how they weren’t there for her how she needed them to be and is likely having her own internal struggles with it. Just be patient and be there for her and I’m sure she’ll realise in time who her family really is.”

Taken aback further by Erin’s words, she gave a small nod. Feeling less like she had been failing to show her wolf how she was part of the family.

Missing seeing her father best Fester was an annoying necessity the psychic needed to rectify. Better yet, she could do the besting herself and get out the strange vexation she had been feeling towards her uncle recently.

It didn’t take long to find the electric psychic, setting fire to various items she assumed were evidence. Sending a quick text to Enid to make sure the wolf’s sensitive nose wouldn’t pick up on the smoke and think something was wrong, she walked over to him and threw a knife at him.

He quickly shifted his weight and rolled over on the floor, dodging the blade before it reached him.

“Too slow Wednesday. Losing your priorities, a knife should be the first thing in your hand.”

Rolling her eyes at him, she flicked another blade in his direction.

She knew her uncle was well skilled as he had taught her much of what she knew but when he dodged the second knife, the raven found that odd sense of frustration overcome her again.

He giggled as he landed on his feet beside her, holding his own dagger pointed at her. She went to slash his hand but he let go of his blade letting it fall and dodging her attack once more, he grabbed his dagger before it hit the ground and only giggled harder.

“Three’s a pattern, don’t you know. Guess you’ve become too reliant on those new tricks of yours. Or you really have lost that sharp edge.”

Button’s completely pushed, Wednesday’s mind went into overdrive formulating every possible attack she could do and how he might respond to it.

Only a few seconds later, he was on his back with the younger psychic holding his blade in her hand. His reaction was predictable as he broke out into giggles and the raven let shallow breaths at having to try much harder than she expected to beat her uncle.

Having to expend so much effort actually made the result so much more satisfying and she couldn’t help the smile off her lips.

“Perhaps I have become more complacent than I thought.”

He shot up and she was able to predict his next strike, blocking his fist with her palm. She went to retaliate but he kicked out his leg to tackle her to the ground.

The only way she was able to dodge was to completely disengage and jump back. Realising she had definitely neglected her hand to hand combat abilities during her time at Nevermore.

“Now that’s a sight no one else gets to see, Wednesday backing down.”

Not going to let that slide, she quickly took off to show him he was wrong. When he went to dodge, she decided she wasn’t going to let him get away and thought to use just a small bit of magic.

Since Fester had mentioned it, she wanted to not cast any spells, not wanting to be perceived as using it as a crutch but she couldn’t let herself be beaten so much in one sparring session.

As she slowed down her perception to grab another blade on his belt, she felt a shooting pain all over her body and completely lost consciousness with her fingers wrapped around the hilt.

* * *

Fester’s blade was in a short blonde haired man, Wednesday didn’t recognise. He was tightly tied to a chair. With his pale skin and sunken eyes, it looked like he had been starved for days.

A gloved hand wretched the blade from the man’s thigh. He groaned in response, letting out whimpers from the cloth that was stuffed in his mouth.

“I bet you’re wondering ‘why me?’ The answer is simple. Why not you?”

The gloved hand carved a strange symbol into the man’s leg and poured a clear liquid onto the wounds, it smelt vaguely lemony and salty.

The blonde man screamed into his gag as his eyes welled with tears.

“This is just the beginning.”

As Wednesday came back to the world, she instantly rolled over to sit on her hands and her knees. Feeling the nausea from the quick movement but it was little compared to what she had seen from the vision.

She gagged a few times before unloading blood, vomit and bile onto the ground beside her. There was still an aching pain over her body and she could feel a stickiness on her shoulder and side, knowing it must have been blood.

“Wish I could take credit for your state but it seems your powers are better at taking you out than I am!”

Glaring at her uncle, she was in no mood for his jokes. She tried to find something to say but words were not what escaped her mouth.

Fester walked over to her and crouched down, looking a bit dazed.

“Something actually wrong, Wednesday? Even bloody you are normally quick to retort.”

She shook her head despite the intense pain that caused her. She knew this couldn’t just have been from the vision but she didn’t know how to explain everything that had happened to her uncle in her current state.

“Right, so you’re just indisposed after a vision. Shame you don’t have your mother’s after effects, pretty sure she could kill with that optimism. Pretty ironic, the one who actually wants that gets powerless after a vision, huh?”

Her pain was temporarily replaced with anger at the implication she had no agency although when she stood up her legs completely collapsed under her weight.

Fester grabbed her before she could hit the ground but with her current emotions at her uncle she wasn’t feeling in the mood for contact.

“Don’t touch me!”

The raven pushed out of his hold with strength in her voice and actions she didn’t actually feel. He rolled his eyes and walked off, not noticing Wednesday was unconscious again.

The darkness went on for longer than it would ever be possible to see. The psychic knew exactly where she was, however that knowledge did nothing to help her.

She recognised now, she was trapped in the darkness of her brain. It was clear how she was meant to be alone. The path of a raven is a solitary one.

Goody’s words were the ultimate truth, no matter how many people claimed to be there for her in life. In the end, she would die alone.

It was strange to have such clarity in this place but the emptiness stopped all the lies of the real world from entering her brain.

After Wednesday had failed so badly against Fester in their sparring match, the psychic knew he would never want to spar again with his weak niece. She wouldn’t inflict that kind of torture onto a member of her family. There was no reason any member of her family should have to suffer her presence.

* * *

Wednesday woke up with a gasp and took no note of her surroundings as she rolled onto her side and threw up more blood.

She noticed her eyes were overflowing with tears and there was nothing she could do to stop them. Warm arms wrapped around her with the smell of caramel and mango infiltrating her senses.

She knew it was Enid that was hugging her. Having no issues with the wolf giving her physical contact, she leaned into her girlfriend.

She now looked around and realised she was in her bedroom.

Just letting the time pass, the psychic tried to wrestle with the thoughts she had just been feeling. She wanted to just discount them but it was hard to argue against their truth.

She really had failed so badly against her uncle in that duel one spell had completely drained her energy and sent her back to wherever that place was.

Sobbing into someone else’s arms, she didn’t blame anyone for calling her weak. It is nonsensical to blame someone for the truth.

“Wens, what happened?”

Snapping out of her spiral by the blonde’s voice, she looked up to blue eyes filled with obvious compassion and worry.

Feeling like she didn’t deserve either of those emotions, the raven shrugged and looked back down.

“Okay that’s fair, sorry for the stupid question. Can you tell me what was going on before it happened?”

Failing to understand why the original question was inappropriate, she recounted vaguely her sparring with Fester and receiving a graphic vision of a man being tortured.

Leaving out the more gruesome details her best friend didn’t need to know, she then said how she had another vision of whatever it was when she was being influenced by the necklace.

“What the? What was Fester doing?”

Rather unsure why Enid would bring him up, she gave another shrug.

“He was there when I awoke the first time but left after I told him to.”

Although Wednesday had never done such a thing, her recent trip to the hellish void was still twisting her thoughts.

“Wait, you asked him to leave you bleeding on the floor after you just threw up and he just agreed? Didn’t think to tell anyone what was happening?”

Again lost in the wolf’s focus on Fester, she tried her best to explain.

“After my initial vision I went to show how he was wrong about me being powerless but I only proved him right as I was not able to even stand. When he reached down to catch me I did not want to be helped and so I informed him I did not want to be touched. I fell into that vision before I knew what his response was.”

The blonde held the psychic close as she showed little reaction, likely bottling up those emotions.

“Are you still feeling the same as when you had the vision? You still feel like that when you remember them, don’t you?”

In fact, the raven felt like she had a lot more clarity than she had in awhile.

“I am fine. I do not feel the same sense of unease that I had the first few times. There is more of a clearness than I have had in awhile.”

Enid made no attempt to hide the conclusion she drew.

“Wens, what does that mean? Your thoughts you have there aren’t real. They aren’t true.”

She spoke slowly but Wednesday didn’t agree.

“They are true. Fester witnessed my weakness in our sparring and I can understand him wishing to not duel with someone so unworthy.”

The wolf shook her head frantically.

“Can I try something?”

The psychic had no reservation about letting her girlfriend do whatever she felt would be beneficial to herself or the raven.

When all the blonde did was tighten the embraces and place her forehead on Wednesday’s, she didn’t know what her plan was.

Until a sudden warmth spread through her entire body but specifically around her mind. Not realising how foggy her thoughts felt before it was gone.

“What did you do?”

Completely unable to express what she was feeling at the moment, the psychic thought knowing might help.

“Oh uh, I hope I didn’t do anything bad! I um, learned from Mrs Addams about how intentions are what is behind most magic so I thought that might also be connected to our mana sharing stuff. Like how I didn’t like intent to give you my healing abilities but like I was constantly wishing you energy and to get better so I’m betting there was like a subconscious intention in that transfer. Like my mana did the only thing it could to make that intention happen.”

Thoroughly impressed by the Enid’s innate psychic intuition. The raven gave a nod into her shoulder and settled more into the cuddle.

As the wolf giggled, she continued her explanation.

“Anyway! I tried to do that on purpose this time. I want to get rid of all the negativity from that vision. Figured it couldn’t hurt to try, I was kinda scared of what you were saying cuz I know what happened in that place before. How it changes your mind into believing what it was thinking. I thought that stopped after you got out but it sounded like you still believed all that negativity.”

Filled with an actual clarity in her mind, Wednesday understood exactly what the blonde was saying.

“You were correct in your assessment and you succeeded in your attempt, if I had known what it was I would have had no doubt you would.”

The psychic however did have doubts about the state of her mind at the time. Looking back it really did feel at the time what she believed was actually true, only in retrospect did she realise that wasn’t the case.

They had spent a lot longer wrapped in each other's arms than they had before. Then Wednesday realised there was part of the puzzle she didn’t have.

“What occurred after I was in my second vision?”

Still referring to that place as a vision as she didn’t know a better name for it, Enid nodded as she put down her phone to recount the events.

“Well unfortunately I don’t know how long after you passed out that I found you. I was with Grandmama. The potions covered up the scent of your blood. I smelt it as soon as I came out the room and like I initially panicked cuz you know your blood. But then I thought it was maybe just from a sparring match so I was just walking over just to make sure but then I realised just how much there was so started sprinting.”

The psychic took a moment to appreciate just how much the wolf had changed, not only was she talking about blood but she had seen the raven covered in it and clearly helped her get cleaned up.

She didn’t know if she could take that adoration she knew was in her eyes because she didn’t care to try.

“Seeing the blood from your scars and that you threw up, it was obvious it was a magic thing. I assumed you had just gotten a vision of something but you were out for ages and your visions have never caused such extreme reactions before that’s always been going over your mana limit. So I took you back to our bedroom and cleaned you up as best I could. I was debating getting Mrs Addams involved but since you didn’t seem any worse than usual I decided to just let you recover and you could decide. Although gotta admit, the longer you were out the more likely I was getting to asking for help.”

Glad her roommate hadn’t involved the dove, Wednesday gave a nod of contentment but still wanted to elevate any concerns the blonde might have.

“While I am content you did not get Mother as she was not needed, you can go to her if you ever feel out of your depth. She is there for you as much as she is for me.”

Enid smiled wide and nodded.

“Yeah, think I’m finally getting that.”

Letting out a nervous laugh, she continued.

“Oh I’ve actually got a few things to tell you!”

The couple finally untangled themselves from each other and sat opposite on the bed.

* * *

The psychic finally took the chance to examine the damage to herself. She was in no pain which was a rather large relief remembering just how bad it had felt after. She was in a new clean shirt with the fresh smell of mint, it was clear the wolf definitely had cleaned her up. And done a good job at that

Somewhat selfishly, she would barely admit to herself that it was appreciated that she didn’t need to clean up after any of the after effects herself.

With the exception of the first time, her best friend had been there to get rid of all the evidence of her visions and even then the blonde did arrive to see her the first time, she was merely too unconscious to help. Having to wash her bloody wounds would certainly get rather tiresome after a while.

“First I wish to express my gratitude for how you have always taken care of me after a vision or any other psychic event. Even with your dislike of blood you have made sure I do not suffer through this alone. ‘Solitude sometimes is best society.’ While I used to think that was wrong and it always was, the times I find it is not is when I am with you.”

Enid giggled and wrapped her roommate in a quick hug before pulling back again.

“I would say I’ve given you too much of my positive mana but that would be an insult to how delightfully romantic you always are. And I am not getting distracted. I will put a pin in that quote because I’m usually the one referencing things you don’t get but I’ve got a laundry list of things I need to tell you first!”

Content that was out of the way, Wednesday gave a small nod and waited for her to continue.

“So first up only cuz it becomes relevant and you’re not allowed to say anything until I’m done, K?”

While never liking to agree to be silent, the psychic did so without complaint.

“So like I’ve not said anything about it cuz I kinda know what you’d say and I get it but still. Obvi I don’t really have any source of money, I used to have at least something from my parents that I could use towards stuff like takeaways and shampoo and stuff but now since they’ve completely cut me off I didn’t even have access to my Spotify anymore. I had mentioned it to Yoko and she ‘encouraged’ me to save after I wolfed out just in case anything happened and occasionally helped me out by buying my hair dye and smaller stuff. I actually only did it cuz you know saving is never a bad idea and I have been rationing that since my parents properly stopped giving me anything.”

The raven wondered what had made the wolf so talkative. Not that her roommate was ever a person of few words but it certainly seemed like she has had a lot to say recently.

“And on that note I saw all my products you bought me in the bathroom and I know you weren’t doing it as a money thing cuz I know you weren’t aware of how I didn’t have anything, though it wouldn’t be that much of leap to guess but still, it was really thoughtful to make sure I wouldn’t run out over the summer and...”

The blonde took a long sigh as she got up off the bed and went over to her table. She picked up her purse and took out a black card, placing it onto the table.

* * *

Wednesday had the smallest ghost of a smile as she saw the the girlfriend’s name engraved onto the plastic.

“Ugh yeah no way I can reject that when that clearly made you happy, like I feel so ungrateful but it’s just so grand of a gesture. I feel like I’m taking advantage of your family or something.”

Trying to keep in mind what Erin had told her, the psychic didn’t push.

“You seem to overestimate your abilities when it is undeserved and undersell them at the same time.”

Enid tilted her head and took a seat back down on the bed.

“You’re gonna havta walk me through that one.”

“You seem to be under the impression you are capable of manipulating the Addams into doing something we do not wish to. You are as deserving of a monthly allowance as myself or Pugsley.”

The wolf giggled as she guessed phrasing it that way did seem rather foolish.

“Well I ain’t got a choice in taking it, Grandmama cursed it or something so I’m literally incapable of giving it back.”

The raven’s almost smile didn’t leave her lips as she very much approved of the elder witch’s actions.

“If that causes you much issue then I can circumvent it. The removal of autonomy is not something I will allow to continue against your will.”

Still she made sure to put her roommate’s feelings above even her own. The blonde gave a half shrug as she put the card back into her purse and tossed it onto the vanity table.

“It’s not like a big deal, I’m not gonna like go on any spending sprees. If I use it, it will only be for like essentials or emergencies.”

That did seem like a reasonable approach and Wednesday wasn’t going to argue.

“It seems Mother has managed to outdo even my ability when it comes to you thinking about things that have already been sorted out.”

Enid raised an eyebrow at her and looked at her girlfriend suspiciously.

“What you on about? That kinda sounds like something Yoko would say.”

Realising indeed it was the vampire’s words she had partially stolen, the psychic nodded.

“She did say that first. She noticed how I had asked you to go to the winter festival, confessed my feelings and asked Mother to aid in your release from Nevermore’s overbearing control. All before you had really thought about it and she commented on how it was funny. Although I don’t see the humour, I can appreciate the contradiction.”

Enid laughed as she rolled her eyes and bumped the raven with her shoulder.

“It’s not my fault you have been so thoughtful you think of things before me. But yeah I get what she means. Technically I have half worried about that since like before I was kicked out so you defo are still winning with thinking of things beforehand. Still maybe that’s where you got it from.”

Giving a wink to her, her roommate giggled as she watched her face turn to disgust.

“You’re plenty your own person, Wens. You defo don’t need to worry about turning into Mrs Addams.”

Wednesday wondered if her girlfriend understood how she had phrased her statement and thought to chance it.

“I once told my mother I never would but it seems I have been wrong.”

The wolf did not quite seem to catch on but the small flush in the psychic’s cheeks may have tipped her off and she had one to match not long later.

* * *

Ever since the blonde had learned of Fester’s abandonment of Wednesday after she had an incredibly challenging psychic attack, at least the most challenging once since she broke the curse on the necklace, her distaste for the electric psychic only grew.

She knew the raven was capable of dealing with the physical pain and usually had no complaints about it but the mental torture that darkness caused her was certainly not something she was seemingly able to battle as easily.

As long as she was there to help the psychic afterwards, it didn’t seem like there would be many permanent effects. But she couldn’t help worrying if Wednesday were to suffer though that while she was away, or god forbid kidnapped again, then it would become a negativity spiral she was only able to talk herself further into.

Enid had already thought it sounded like the literal definition of Hell but the newest development was not something she thought could bring anything good.

She was going to make sure the raven told somebody, most likely Mrs Addams, about it because there was no way she could deal with it on her own. Which she knew was going to be a hard sell.

Wednesday did not do well with things she couldn’t control or solve by herself but this was far too worrisome to ignore.

The knowledge that Fester had just left her there to bleed on the ground outside was something the wolf couldn’t understand. More so than the usual Addams affection. At least everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves when that happened.

This time her girlfriend was left sobbing and bleeding out on the cold floor. That was not going unpunished. Even if Fester didn’t know what to do, leaving her there was not a choice he ever should have made.

The blonde hadn’t asked her roommate about what she thought of her uncle’s actions as she was too worried of triggering the thoughts from her vision. The psychic’s inability or lack of desire to fight them off on her own scared Enid far more than any electric psychic could do.

* * *

The blonde was at the shooting range throwing knives to get out her frustrations and anger. She had elected not to use the really pretty ones her girlfriend had made for her in the worry she would cause them damage in her vexation.

“Gonna admit, I didn’t see you as the type to ever touch a blade.”

Fester’s giggling caused a reaction in her that she never expected. Before her mind could reconsider it, the knife in her hand left her grip and was thrown at the bald man.

Obviously not anticipating an attack from the colourful werewolf, Fester didn’t move in time to stop it cutting into his arm as it flew past him.

Enid wanted to feel bad about it but she simply couldn’t. It was taking all of her energy to not growl at him.

“Don’t tell that one to Wednesday. She wasn’t able to even nick me after trying thrice.”

He continued giggling while he spoke and she understood a bit more why her roommate might have felt so down after their encounter.

“Do you enjoy mocking your niece?”

He strolled over and sat on the bench across from the wolf.

“You’ve got a funny definition of mock. Unless you’re referring to Wednesday then I’d change the word to encouragement.”

The blonde didn’t know who on Earth he thought they were talking about but didn’t let her anger turn to confusion.

“What encouragement involves leaving her out to bleed after she’s just had a horrific vision?”

Her voice was louder than it needed to be but she was able to not shout as the electric psychic sat apathetically in front of her.

“I don’t think Wednesday’s and your meanings of horrific are the same. She’s a lot tougher than you’re giving her credit for. Are you expecting me to change her and rub her back? Even I’m not enough of a fool to try and baby her.”

Those words somehow made her lose some of her anger. Maybe Fester was just a lot less informed of how the raven had changed since whenever the last time he saw her was.

“So what, you couldn’t even have gotten Mrs Addams to help her?”

Still not letting him off that easily, she needed to know his thought process if she was going to lose any more of her fury towards him.

He laughed and threw his head back while jumping off the bench.

“Ha! You think I want to be impaled? You must not know anything about her if you think she’d have wanted me to do that. She told me to back off and I did. If you’ve got an issue with me respecting that then I don’t think you’re the one who should be doing the interrogation.”

Completely taken aback by his small speech, she didn’t say any more words as he disappeared as abruptly as he appeared.

Enid of course knew the psychic didn’t want her mother involved, that was why she hadn’t gone to the dove and instead took care of her girlfriend herself. Hearing his point of view did make things seem a lot more complicated.

She knew to some degree Wednesday had told him she didn’t want to be touched and he had known the raven for her entire life. He knows very well how she truly meant that and he likely knew how much she enjoys her solitude.

The wolf knew relatively that she was the exception to the psychic’s antisocial tendencies but when she had also noticed how her roommate acted around Yoko and Divina it was easy to forget her family was still largely treated the same as they were before the pair had met.

Presumably for as long as Fester had known Wednesday, she didn’t want to be around people much and reacted very aggressively when people didn’t respect her boundaries.

That meant he likely made sure to adhere to them as much as possible. He still seemed rather confrontational in his words but the blonde was less convinced he was being as callous in his actions.

Nevertheless the psychic’s negative thoughts must have stemmed from somewhere and he was at least taunting the raven now meaning he likely was yesterday as well.

* * *

It was never a good thing for the stoic psychic to need to ask her mother questions but as her own knowledge of magic was extremely limited and no book could give her the specific information she needed, her hands were tied. In the least fun way.

After finding the greenhouse empty, she assumed the dove must be in her library and as she turned the corner to the scent of petunia candles, she knew her mother must be here.

“I have found the first spell I have been unable to cast.”

Never ever one for small talk, the raven had introduced her presence with her reason for being there. However Morticia was more than used to her daughter’s proclivities and answered without missing a beat.

“And what spell would that be?”

Walking slightly more into the room, Wednesday explained.

“Any sort of healing. As I originally tried when I was psychically hurt, I assumed that was the reason it had failed but as I tried it on a wound that was not related to magic in any way I still found it unable to be healed.”

The elder psychic closed the book she had been reading and rested her hands on top of the cover.

“That is strange darling, given how well you have taken to other magic that does seem unusual. Are you sure your intentions are clear?”

Letting out a long sigh out of her nose, she wondered if she was mistaken in asking her mother for any information.

“Yes Mother. No matter my intention I cannot cast these spells nor has any attempt to create my own come to fruition.”

Cutting off that possibility before the dove could ask about that either. There were more issues on that front that made it clear it was a separate problem.

“Well as someone who is well versed in healing magic there is one thing my mind gravitates to first, darling. However I do hope it is not the case.”

Not in the mood for riddles or her time being wasted, the psychic didn’t dignify that with any answer and simply waited for her mother to continue.

“As my nature as a dove I am positive, optimistic. You have a wonderfully unique dark lens you see the world through but your nature is rather opposite to mine. It is possible as a Raven you do not have the capacity to use that kind of magic.”

Feeling relieved at just having an answer, the raven didn’t care too much about her own seemingly biological limits. Although as she thought about that she did need a clarification.

“You have mentioned nature and views but I was not born macabre and you were not born sanguine. Those are personality traits that are unrelated to any psychic power we happen to also possess.”

Morticia smiled at her daughter but unfortunately didn’t have a satisfying answer.

“Nature and nurture has been debated by Normies psychiatrists for decades, I don’t believe we will be solving that ourselves. All I can tell you Wednesday, is that our power is fulled by our emotions and our mental state. I am sure you have noticed you are much more likely to have a vision when you are experiencing an intense sentiment and the nature of our vision is what defines us as Dove and Raven. It would be remiss to pretend those visions wouldn’t affect our mental states. Even before I had visions, I was as optimistic as my mother.”

She in fact hadn’t noticed any such thing and she doubted it instantly. Wondering just how much the elder psychic knew that she wasn’t sharing, Wednesday decided to push a bit more.

“So you knew long before I had visions I was a raven?”

Thinking about it, her mother was quick to say exactly what she was when the dove had learned of her visions.

“I had my suspicions of course but no two Doves or Ravens are identical.”

Reading perhaps too much into Morticia’s words, there was seemingly one unanswered question.

“As I have perused your library I have seen many references to doves but I have not seen a single reference to a raven. Further Goody told me I was the raven in her bloodline. What is the ratio between ravens and doves?”

The elder psychic’s smile faltered and was left much less annoyingly strong although she had no understanding of why.

“There hasn’t been enough documentation of Ravens to know. The closest answer is rare. Exceedingly. Goody was the last Raven in the Addams family and I have heard of few in my life, none currently with us.”

Getting the feeling there was still something the dove was leaving out, the psychic glared at her.

“What do you know of Goody?”

Morticia didn't hide the obvious fact she had understood the accusation.

“I likely know far less than you do dear. Given you've spoken to her and I have not.”

Completely dodging the question made the suspicious raven even more convinced there was something her mother was leaving out.

“I know nothing of what happened after she killed Crackstone.”

She got an odd feeling the elder psychic wanted to tell her something but she couldn't quite figure out why she wouldn't.

“That is likely because there wasn't much more after, she died not long later.”

It wasn't like anyone in the Addams family to shy away from the topic of death so the dove's vague answer only made Wednesday more confident her mother was hiding something from her. Perhaps she could pry it out from her father instead.

With the summer heat in full swing the werewolf was enjoying being out of the house as much as possible.

To her delight, her roommate would often join her although the raven kept mostly to the shadows and merely observed what she was doing.

There were often times when she was forced out into the sun but it seemed not even that would stop her from being around her girlfriend.

Still there was often times when Wednesday would join in depending on the activity she was doing. Anything violent got the psychic to join in without even being asked. The blonde got to see her archery skills first hand and was thoroughly impressed.

“Whoa! How come you've never joined the archery club?”

The answer was obvious and she couldn't believe her social knowledge had slipped her mind.

“Xavier is the captain and there is nothing he could teach me.”

Feeling rightfully silly at asking a question with such an obvious answer, Enid's mind wandered to what she had said to the youngest Addams.

“Oh shit, I told Pugsley he should join the archery club! Not only do I not want him around Pugs in general, I wouldn't want Pugs to have to deal with any bullshit cuz the crazy guy can't get over his sister.”

The raven gave a small shrug as she unleashed another arrow, hitting its mark dead on.

“I am unaware of when or if he will be back at Nevermore. Are you aware of what became of him?”

The wolf in fact knew rather little about what happened to any of Ciaran’s flock after she helped get her best friend to the ambulance. All she knew was the telekinetic himself had died and she didn't shed a tear for his loss.

She never thought she could be so callous when it came to death but after she saw what he did to her roommate, the blonde was confident some people really did deserve to die if they did horrible things.

“Actually nope. Not got a clue. No one really spoke about it, I guess cuz they didn't like wanna bring it up to you and I was stuck to your side as much as I could be so I just never found out. Not that I care too much.”

Suddenly she felt a strange anger at her own apathy. She didn't want to not care. They had hurt her girlfriend and now she didn't care what happened to them? That should have been unthinkable.

“Actually no, I do care. I hope they're fucking suffering.”

Her girlfriend was obviously shocked by the blonde's sudden turn. So much so the arrow she had just fired missed. Not by much but it wasn't in the centre of the target.

Enid worried she might have come off too strong until she blinked and Wednesday had given her a kiss to her cheek.

Letting out a little giggle, she couldn't believe what she had just thought. Of course the psychic would adore such words.

“The last I heard of him he was in the hospital. In a coma.”

The wolf tilted her head from side to side. Trying to think if that seemed like a suitable punishment for his part in everything.

“How did he end up there? I didn't see him when I was at that cabin.”

Letting out a small shiver at the memory, she tried to push the sight of her roommate bleeding out out of her mind. She had seen her best friend injured far too much over that semester but that was the first time it was with the intent to kill her.

“Oh I did smell like three other people's blood down there so I guess you gave him a well deserved beating?”

The raven shook her head as she put down her bow.

“After Xavier punched me, Ciaran stabbed him in a misplaced sense of objectification.”

Wednesday explained how Xavier had feigned innocence and after lashing out was supposedly killed by Ciaran although he clearly failed. She seemed to be leaving out some of the exact details but the blonde was able to read in between the lines.

“God he was even more of a creep than I thought! I guess it shouldn’t surprise me too much, a lot of his texts were weird AF. And defo possessive. Only half glad you killed him cuz the other half wishes I could have done it myself.”

Making sure to get the second part of her thought process out before the raven could worry about what she might mean.

As she got another kiss to her cheek, she thought she might not be so different to her girlfriend after all.

Wednesday had gone back to reading while occasionally sneaking glances at her girlfriend doing whatever physical activity the blonde felt like doing at the time.

With the full moon at the end of the week, she assumed Enid must be working out the enhanced energy she was feeling.

As the wolf was looking over all of the potential options, the psychic saw her eyes land on a black tennis ball and some rackets.

Prepared to abandon the book she was enjoying in favour of helping her roommate use up her energy, an unlikely reprieve appeared into her eye line.

She pushed up from the ground and threw the tennis ball towards her brother.

“Pugs, watch out!”

The boy turned around just quick enough to watch as the ball hit him in the forehead although he managed to catch it before it hit the floor.

Laughing he ran over to the couple, tripping a little in his haste.

“Whatcha guys up to?”

The raven answered him before the blonde could blink.

“Enid would like to play tennis. I am sure you will be capable of being beaten for long enough to survive.”

Pugsley smiled eagerly and picked up a racket.

“OhEmGee Wens! A, you can just ask,    you don’t need to throw things at people! B, Pugs you don’t have to play if you don’t want to. C, Wens, stop throwing things at people!”

Wednesday looked back at her girlfriend, glaring rather gently although she wouldn’t expect anyone but Enid to notice.

“You said that twice.”

“Yeah, for emphasis. Least not at Pugs, he doesn’t deserve it.”

The psychic grumbled but complied, giving a small nod to the wolf.

“I don’t mind! But thanks sis! I’m absolutely up for some tennis.”

Knowing the nickname wasn’t for her, she left without another word. Taking her book and settling back to where she was.

Although it seemed neither one of them was going to take ownership of the moniker as the blonde didn’t respond to it and went to grab the tennis net.

Pugsley attempted to help her but with Enid’s strength and the light net it was already an easy task. It didn’t take them long to start playing.

Neither of them had played in a while so it was anybody’s game. Until you took into account the werewolf being able to hit the ball harder than Pugsley’s favourite grenade could blow up a lake, then it was rather clear how one sided the game really could be.

The raven noticed her trying to reign in her abilities. She supposed her roommate wasn’t as big of a fan of one sided victories as she was.

Her brother and the blonde were laughing rather loudly as they played. Trading points but the winner was still apparent.

“Whoa! I’m about as good at tennis as I am at stealing Wednesday’s knives.”

He had never succeeded in his attempts but Wednesday didn’t mind him trying. Torturing him every time he tried was enough to satisfy the nuisance of him trying in the first place.

“I’m sure I’d been disqualified long ago so I think we’re both pretty terrible.”

The pair laughed together and the psychic accidentally stared at them while she was lost in thought. Ever since she had gotten the book from her mother about creating new spells she had tried to do so.

Believing she already had, the raven didn’t think it would be a challenge at all. For some reason the creation of new magical spells wasn’t something she was able to do. She wondered if perhaps that might have been another dove ability but Goody’s book of shadows was the biggest argument against that idea.

The last raven of the Addams had done so and seemingly at the same age as Wednesday if not younger. She knew the dove wasn’t going to tell her the cause of her death but she didn’t know why.

Wednesday had to witness Goody’s family burning to death as the witch herself was forced to flee, along with countless other horrors. There wasn’t anything that would phase her. Meaning there must be something else that is stopping the elder psychic from revealing the truth to her.

She decided to add it to her list of objectives she needed to complete before their next year at Nevermore started. The psychic’s main goal was to learn spirit channelling so she could bring Erin’s spirit into this world.

Her biggest issue was all the spells she had found required someone or something of the deceased. Unfortunately the something she needed had to be biological in origin, with blood being the most common component.

While she likely could find where the older wolf was buried, the length of time it had already been would not be ideal and that was a limited resource anyway so finding a different method was at the top of her to do list. She supposed she could try to track down Erin’s biological parents but she didn’t think anyone was going to be happy with that avenue either.

Having many more weeks until she ran out of time, she put it out of her mind for now. That was something she was never able to do and in fact that thought hadn’t even occurred to her. She continued reading her book on spirit channelling.

Enid was struggling with a dilemma. Something she didn’t know if being shared would cause more issues than it would solve.

As she helped out in the greenhouse with Mrs Addams, she was still debating what she should do. What she wanted to do was to go out into wherever the nearest town was, do the smallest, littlest bit of shopping she ever had but she didn’t know how to get there, where it was or if she should tell people where she was going.

It was rather impulsive and she hadn’t realised she had never left the Addams mansion over the winter. It had felt so comforting and still rather alien that she never felt like she was stuck there. Due to that however, she had no idea what the proper etiquette was when she was to leave the manor.

Back in San Francisco, she would tell her parents when and where she was going whenever she left the home. With how much bigger this house was however she was confident no one would be able to tell if she had left or was just somewhere they didn’t know.

She didn’t want to come across like she needed permission to leave because she knew that wasn’t really the case but she couldn’t just go without telling anybody. She really felt stuck with little idea on what she should be doing.

“Darling, I need to go into Calderon, oh that’s the town just a little aways, for some supplies if you would care to join me?”

All Enid could do was blink at the dove’s words.

“Dear, is something wrong?”

Suddenly realising she had also been staring, the wolf nodded and laughed a bit.

“I was just like thinking, weird timing. I've been wanting to go into whatever the nearest town is today, just thought of it like a few minutes ago though.”

Mrs Addams smiled adoringly at the blonde and winked while taking off her gardening gloves.

“I find I am quite adept at that.”

Being taken back to the recent conversation she had with her roommate about the dove, Enid had a guess at what that might have meant.

“Wait, you didn’t have a vision of me asking you, did you?”

They headed to the main entrance of the mansion as they spoke.

“No dear, I wouldn’t have been able to change that. Visions can only show what has or will happen.”

Taking Mrs Addams word on that but she felt like she should disagree without quite knowing why.

She threw on her trainers as the elder psychic opened the door for her to step through.

“How far away is Calderon?”

Enid still had that odd feeling in her as they took the steps down to the front of the manor.

“Not far, it is only a fifteen minute walk.”

“Oh that’s like less than Jericho to Nevermore, didn’t feel like there was anywhere that close when we drove here. Not that I would know the second time I was completely passed out on Wens’ shoulder. Which actually now that I think about it I did the first time too just on the plane.”

Somehow the wolf had forgotten just how physical the raven let her be even before they had started dating.

Letting out a large smile at the thought, she happily skipped alongside the dove as they walked into town.

“A little magical interference helps.”

She looked over at Mrs Addams, trying to figure out what she meant.

“You can use your magic to walk faster?”

The elder psychic shook her head, seemingly looking for the words to explain.

“It is more alike to changing our perception of how time passes. Similar to the spell Wednesday uses to slow down her perception of time to react quicker.”

Thinking about the limitation to that spell first, she asked what felt like an obvious question.

“But she can only use that spell for a couple minutes if that, not like twenty.”

The dove grinned as she chuckled softly.

“I have had some more practice than her, dear. Although she certainly had taken to magical feats far quicker than I did at her age, I am glad she is. I wasn't sure if she would ever want to be involved in our family's coven. I do hope it's not too late.”

Tilting her head, the blonde thought about how she really didn't know anything about witches or magic and wondered if it was anything like her experiences.

“Is it like how werewolves usually wolf out when we're young and if it doesn't happen, it likely never will?”

Mrs Addams’ face showed her guilt obviously and Enid wasn't sure what she said that was wrong.

“Unless that was a totally insensitive comparison! Which I'm really sorry about if so.”

She could see the elder psychic attempting a smile but there wasn't the strength behind it she was used to.

“Not at all, darling. I apologise for my implications. Forget I said anything.”

Knowing well enough when to back down, the wolf didn't say another word on the topic but she couldn't help noticing there was something that the dove was omitting and she wanted to know what it was.

The rest of the walk went by rather quickly as they made light small talk to pass the faster moving time.

“I will need some magical and psychic supplies, you're welcome to join me but I wouldn't wish to drag you when you've got your own agenda.”

Feeling conflicted since she would rather do what she came here alone but she didn't quite want to leave Mrs Addams' side just yet.

“I'd like to join you for that actually! If you want me there, of course. But the magic stuff has really caught my attention and I'd like to learn as much as possible to help Wens in any way I can.”

The elder psychic’s smile was back to being as strong as the blonde remembered as she nodded her head. There was also a little more selfish reason she had. Witchcraft seemed incredibly interesting and she wanted to learn more just for her own sake.

“You are a wonderful partner, Enid. I do hope Wednesday shows you just how much you mean to her.”

Slightly taken aback by the rather blunt words from the dove but she didn't let her reaction show.

“Oh she defo does. Even if she didn't, I'd know. There's tons of small stuff she does that never lets me forget about how much she cares for me. Honestly I'm the one who needs to make sure I'm showing her just how much she means to me!”

Enid only now noticed they were already in a store as they were talking.

* * *

Taking a moment to look around the space first, she realised they must be in the magic or psychic store. If there was any difference.

“I am sure Wednesday is just as aware as you are. There is however no time like the present, of course. If you have something you wish to do together then it wouldn't be a poor decision to do so.”

While the blonde had many things she wanted to do with her roommate, she didn't see the need to rush so much.

“Ah Morticia, it has been too long since I've last seen you! Oh, you must be Enid! Morticia has told me all about you.”

Staring at the red haired woman that was greeting them, Enid nodded enthusiastically but was still surprised Mrs Addams would have told anybody about her.

“Yeah! I'm not like any good with magic but I wanted to tag along so I might be able to learn anyway.”

The woman smiled as she looked up to the dove.

“As wonderful and energetic as you described.”

The wolf could feel the heat rising to her cheeks at her girlfriend's mom seemingly praising her to others.

“I'm sure you'll learn plenty! If you're looking to help out Wednesday, an extra hand can go a long way. Even if it's not a magical one.”

Glad to have some confirmation her efforts weren't going to be in vain, the blonde had her own smile and wondered just how much the elder psychic had told the mysterious store owner.

“Enid, this is Arcadia.”

“Oh of course! How forgetful of me. I can sometimes get carried away when Morticia is around, she's a terrible influence.”

Enid took a longer look at Arcadia, her brown eyes were framed by square red glasses. Her red hair was tied into a bun and she had many tattoos over her sepia toned skin.

Wondering what they might mean, many looked like what she would have assumed a witch would have. From potion bottles to cats and a frog wearing the most stereotypical witch’s hat the wolf had seen.

Making sure not to stare, she nodded and bounced on her feet.

“Nice to meet you! Yeah, I'm just a werewolf but I'm up for learning anything to help out Wens. Although most of what I know is how Wednesday doesn't follow any magical rules.”

Feeling like she might have said a bit too much as she had no idea if her girlfriend would have wanted her to say anything about her abilities. Given how much the dove had seemingly said about her however, she hoped she'd be lucky and she wouldn't have been the first one who spilled.

“Ah so Wednesday has managed to learn some spells after all? It did seem like having her first goal to be breaking a curse would be a rather tall order.”

Rather confused as while the raven did have troubles with breaking the curse, it still only took her a handful of attempts.

“She's learned a few spells before she broke the curse. But she's not been able to do much after everything that happened at the end of the semester so I'm wanting to help her get back on track. Plus it's super fun seeing everything she can do.”

Leaving out the main reason being wanting to make sure Wednesday was taken care of every time her powers hurt her as she knew the psychic wouldn't want her telling people about how much pain it can cause her.

“Wow, I must say I'm surprised to hear of such an achievement. For her to pick it up so late but learn so quickly, it is rather hard to believe. Certainly a good thing however.”

Hyperfocusing on how someone else had mentioned how it was ‘late’ for Wednesday to have started learning magic, the wolf wondered if she might be able to learn a bit more from Arcadia.

Suddenly Mrs Addams spoke with a sternness Enid hadn’t heard from the dove.

“Arcadia. Wednesday has always been rather unique in her talents.”

The redhead nodded stiffly and quickly moved from the conversation. That avenue seemed unlikely to pan out either then.

“Of course, Morticia. So what are you here for today?”

“Mostly to restock the usual but I would like to pick up some new things for Wednesday and Enid.”

Arcadia took the list the dove handed her and mouthed along as she read the words.

“Just in luck, I’ve got everything you need!”

She quickly disappeared into the back of the shop and left the pair standing where they were.

The elder psychic was clearly used to that behaviour as she walked around the store, appreciating all the items on display.

At the front there were many beads and cloths on show. Candles and wax melts sat in the next display. Without knowing any of the effects, the wolf instantly gravitated towards them anyway. Enjoying all of the bright colours and smells.

Even without her favourite of steak tartare, there was plenty to appreciate. She always found it strange that she hated the concept of eating animals for many reasons but that scent always appealed to her.

Assuming it was just some buried werewolf instinct, she hadn’t considered much about it. It was an unfortunately rare candle she was able to get due to her lack of funds but she might be able to sway her roommate into buying some nice candles if they had psychic benefits.

Already completely forgetting about the black card that was in her purse, she was formulating plans on how to encourage Wednesday to pursue whichever psychic or magical feats which required burning lovely scented wax.

Following the dove’s lead, she walked around the store, seemingly aimlessly but enjoying recognising some of the objects from Mrs Addams’ library and Grandmama’s chambers.

Along the wall there were many different glass bottles with corks, some empty, many not. Ignoring all the ones that definitely contained gross ingredients, her eyes ended up landing on a display filled with many different crystals.

Spotting a black one with many different colours inside when the light hit it, she went to pick it up but thought better of it. Not knowing if it would be a smart decision to randomly pick up psychic objects.

“Rainbow obsidian, a rather obvious name if I say so myself. Prismatic obsidian has a better ring to it.”

Almost, but not quite yelping, at the sudden appearance of the shop owner next to her, Enid smiled regardless and nodded.

“Known for healing past traumas and emotional recovery.”

Laughing to herself, the wolf spoke without thinking.

“Where’s that been all my life?”

Looking at the dark outside of the crystal, shining colours through only when the light hit it just right, the blonde couldn’t help herself thinking of her girlfriend.

It had a certain familiarity with such opposing colours in the same object it felt rather symbolic. Wednesday had without a doubt helped her heal from her past issues and Enid in turn had helped the raven work through many of her emotions.

“Even the crystals have their limits, although from what I hear it wouldn’t do much good to you now.”

Smiling since she had that exact thought, the wolf bobbed her head up and down in agreement.

“Too true, maybe Wens has been hiding prismatic obsidian in our dorm room.”

Having no issues using Arcadia’s preferred terminology, the blonde noticed the store owner’s smile brighten and she gave a small laugh.

“I don’t believe Wednesday has ever bought any, at least not from my store! So I would give the credit to her aura. She always tried to look like the serpent instead of the flower.”

Not needing to recognise the reference to assume what she was meaning, Enid wondered what their relationship was.

“Does Wens come into the store often?”

Arcadia shook her head and let out another small laugh.

“I imagine she will given her new skills but I’ve more so heard about her from Morticia and see her occasionally when we visit the manor for our divinations.”

Thinking back to her new knowledge of the Addams’ coven, she couldn’t help asking the question on her mind.

“Oh, I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised you are a witch or psychic, I don’t actually know the difference. Are you a member of the Addams’ family coven?”

“They aren’t mutually exclusive. Although psychics learn to be witches the most. And yes I am, I’m a dove and a witch. I would say like Morticia but that would be unfair to her talent.”

Only having more questions at her words, Enid didn’t hide her excitement.

“Wait, so you don’t have to be a psychic to be a witch? Does that mean you’re an Addams’ as well?”

The witch shook her head once more and tapped the side of her glasses.

“Not in name but that never has mattered to the Addams’. I was in the seance society with Morticia in high school. We’ve been friends ever since and she invited me to join the coven not long after we graduated. And on the other note, yes at least to my knowledge magical and sorcery is a learned talent and not an inherited one. I can’t say I’ve heard of a wolf witch but I haven’t known any werewolf willing to learn.”

She couldn’t help laughing loudly at that.

“Oh you went to Nevermore too? Seems everyone I met went there now. Though the werewolf thing is no surprise, especially if other wolf’s hold to silly traditional values like my old pack did. Think Esther would literally rather die than admit she wasn’t perfect and could learn something new.”

Arcadia laughed softly as she likely considered the connection herself.

“I wouldn’t dare to speak ill of cultures I am not a part of but I think it’s good you’re letting yourself not be controlled by views you don’t agree with. Nevermore does have quite a unique way of connecting Outcasts. I’m sure you’ll now notice once you graduate yourself.”

The wolf was too distracted by how she could go on for a long time about the issues within werewolf culture to notice what the witch had said about the high school. There was another part of the conversation she wanted to ask more about as well.

“So the family coven doesn’t just contain family?”

Feeling quite disconnected to how the family coven could have people in it who weren’t members of that family.

“Of course it does, it is a family coven after all. Not just anyone is allowed to be invited.”

The blonde needed to follow the line of questioning more.

“But you said you weren’t an Addams?”

“Not in name, honey. But that isn’t what Addams’ place the most stock in. Spirit is far more important. Even Morticia joined the coven before she legally became an Addams. Do you expect an Addams’ to need the law to tell them who their family is?”

Laughing nervously, Enid really hadn’t thought about phrasing it that way and it did make it sound far sillier than she expected. Of course the Addams’ wouldn’t care about the law over their own ideals.

“Nah defo not, Wens said something about spirit being the most important part of the Addams’.”

Somewhat forgetting the context to which her girlfriend had told her that, the wolf still hadn’t put the pieces together.

“While it isn’t quite my place to say so, I am not very surprised. Even from the short time, it’s already apparent how happy you make each other. I do hope I’ll be seeing more of you two.”

Having so many more questions, the blonde knew she didn’t want to stop seeing the second dove she had met.

“I’m like the annoying raccoon that goes through your rubbish. At first it seems like you might not want me around but I wear you down to the point where you don’t even wanna get rid of me anymore. Pretty sure that’s what happened with Wens anyway.”

Arcadia laughed heartily at her words and put her hand on her shoulder.

“You are more of a match for that Raven. I have renewed faith, although don’t tell Morticia that.”

Completely unaware how that would ever be a problem for Mrs Addams to hear but the blonde would always respect a secret.

To the limits she could anyway. It didn’t escape her notice how the only condition was keeping it from the dove and not the raven.

* * *

Wednesday had been trying to find where Fester kept disappearing to when he wasn’t with anyone from the manor.

Mostly because she was looking for some alone time with the electric psychic himself. Their last interaction had left a rather sweet taste in her mouth and she wanted to sharpen that hatchet much sooner rather than later.

He wasn’t partially hard to track as she assumed he hadn’t been trying to cover up very much.

“If it isn’t my favourite niece! Ready for round two?”

Knowing he had no intent to attack her as he would never ask if he truly was going to, Wednesday sat down on the log next to her uncle. Letting the sensations of the late summer afternoon in the forest wash over her for a moment.

At least it seemed he wasn’t truly put off by her poor showing during their last duel.

“My powers and my newfound magical talents have different but still similar consequences. That was the most extreme reaction I have had in awhile.”

Fester chuckled and looked at something rustling around in the bushes.

“Guess all your parents said about you is true. I’ve only learned one somewhat magical skill myself and it's to stop others from doing it. Seems like it didn’t work on you though, Wednesday.”

The psychic had no idea her uncle had any sort of magical understanding and was firmly bewildered at the knowledge.

“How do you accomplish that?”

“It’s not as much of a science as either of us would want but magic never has been. Don’t even understand much of it myself but don’t need to to use it. Got something to do with draining other’s mana pools.”

At least that explained how one spell had downed her so fast, somehow Fester had completely drained her energy and normally that would stop people from using magic.

“But I am capable of using magic even if I have no energy. Only at the cost of my physical health.”

That still left her vision unexplained but she would extract more information out of her mother to understand that.

“Looks like it. Gotta say seems like a useless ability. The most indirect form of self harm.”

The electric psychic giggled and Wednesday had no argument. While that ability had helped her out of her kidnapping, it caused her so much pain it was almost not worth using.

At the time, she was able to use her adrenaline to ignore some of it but that wasn’t something she could replicate on demand.

“I have yet to find a use for it.”

Still somewhat thinking there might be something she could do with her magical power much like her psychic one, Wednesday tried to not fall into despair as quickly as she usually did.

“You’re sounding like an optimist now, what’s the benefit of bleeding out every time you use some magic?”

Not wanting to argue a losing battle, the raven didn’t respond. Leaving the question hanging in the air felt more honest to the lack of hope she really had.

She felt the electricity flowing through her body before she noticed her uncle moving and let herself fall to the forest ground. Staring up at the sky, she felt more aimless than she had in awhile.

“That’s the despair I expect from you Wednesday. Thought Pugsley was gonna outdo you today.”

Rolling her head to look at Fester, she glared at him.

“What is his problem?”

“As sentimental as your dad, gonna miss not being in school with his sisters until next year.”

While she wouldn’t have understood such an idea a year ago, a lot had changed in that year.

“You speak as if you don’t visit us at least twice a year. At least when you aren’t incarcerated.”

He chuckled and rolled his eyes.

“Of course, you would be lost without me!”

She wondered how true that was, she certainly didn’t hide her excitement towards seeing her uncle. She had felt connected to him in a way she couldn’t articulate or recreate with anyone else.

She dared to think however that the electric psychic felt something similar.

* * *

Enid had left the divination store with a lot more knowledge and a newly discovered excitement for learning witchcraft alongside Wednesday.

Her girlfriend having a rather unknown power made the excitement only grow. Even then the ability to learn herself was something she didn’t even think she could do and she wanted to start as soon as she could.

There was still the one thing she originally wanted to come into town for as well.

She had split us with Mrs Addams so she could still mostly keep what she wanted to buy to herself, slightly worried about how it would be taken.

Walking into an electronics store, the wolf was browsing the earphones they had for sale. It wasn’t particularly hard to know what colour she should pick for her roommate.

Having learned her lesson from the pink earplugs she had bought the raven after she had first learned about getting a roommate, black was the obvious choice.

The issue was between wired, wireless or headphones. Enid had no idea which Wednesday would prefer or if she would even like the idea to begin with.

While her roommate listened to music from her record player without issue, there were a lot more benefits from the new source she had access to in her pocket.

From how much the psychic hated crowds and public places, she knew even if she never played the new playlist she could listen to the same music she already had but outside, without having to worry about the people around her.

She wondered if headphones would be the better choice then, since they would also be more noise cancelling than earphones could but she didn’t actually know if the raven was opposed to the noise as much as the people that caused it.

The wolf didn’t care about the feeling of earbuds in her ears but she also didn’t know if her girlfriend felt the same. She was often quite particular with the sensations and feelings she experienced and earphone could very likely feel uncomfortable for her.

Completely talking herself into buying headphones for her, she picked them up and went to the counter. The store clerk didn’t say a word until she went to pay.

“Never thought I’d see a card like that in here.”

Tilting her head at the strange words the man spoke, she supposed it did kind of make sense. Although she didn’t know how just a black bank card could really be tied to the Addams’. An electronic store would be the last place she would expect one if she did.

“First time for everything, wouldn’t get used to it though. I’m not planning on going crazy with it.”

He smirked as he handed the blonde her receipt.

“Guess the rumours of the newest Addams is true. Can’t say you’re what I expected.”

With no idea how anyone could know she was connected to the Addams in any way but also feeling very surprised he had called her an Addams. Though with the black card, she supposed she couldn’t blame him too much.

“Oh um, I’m not actually related to the Addams’.”

Enid wasn’t sure if she should actually explain her relationship within the family, she didn’t know who this was and didn’t think he needed to know explicitly.

“But of course, I hope I haven’t made you uncomfortable dear. As a Nevermore graduate one tends to keep up to date with the nearby events. Especially when it comes to the Addams’. It’s not everyday they make such a bold statement.”

Somehow more lost in his words, at least she understood why he had heard of her. A rather sudden anger appeared in her mind, why was she a ‘bold statement’? She couldn't imagine how Wednesday dating her would ever fall into that category, at least not in a way where she felt calm about it.

* * *

“What bold statement?”

He laughed heartily and shook his head.

“Oh not like that of course! My husband will love how I phrased that. I mean the formal werewolf duel, of course!”

Once more this man had completely surprised her into an utterly different emotion.

“H- how do you know about that?”

He didn’t seem phased by the wolf’s reaction and responded without hesitating.

“Word travels far in the werewolf council. Especially when someone challenges a werewolf and wins. Although an Addams beating a wolf didn’t startle most of us. Can’t say I have any issues with taking down that Esther Sinclair a peg. She’s not unique with her values but after hearing about that video I bet she’s been taught a lesson.”

Suddenly putting the pieces together as she remembered the psychic had Thing record everything in case what happened was contested, Enid couldn’t help wondering if he had put the pieces together himself and knew he was talking about her mom.

“Wait, so you’re a part of the werewolf council?”

He nodded and smiled brightly.

“After my parents failed to understand how their views were flawed, I decided to make it my goal to change that for as many pups as I could.”

The blonde had utterly changed her opinion about the man in front of her again and just needed to know if he knew.

“Have you seen the video?”

He shook his head in response and let out a sigh.

“It thankfully didn’t get far enough for that to be necessary but I heard it wasn’t much of a fight. No clue why someone would ever want to challenge an Addams nor what she wanted to get out of it.”

Thinking about it herself, she supposed she didn’t know either. Esther had always sidelined her and only seemed to want to belittle her.

“Weren’t the results stipulated?”

Her eyes drifted and she noticed a name badge on his shirt. He didn’t quite look like a Jeremy but she didn’t know why she expected his name to be something else.

“Somewhat, only what was actually requested. I don’t remember exactly since there wasn’t actual cause to review the case but all she asked for was Ms Addams tongue. A rather gruesome thing to state on the official record. Certainly helped with the decision. Ms Addams wanted, hmm. What was it again?”

He tilted his head from side to side in thought.

“It was for Esther and her pack to leave someone alone, I believe. Can’t remember who, although I shouldn’t say even if I did! Privacy and all that. I’ve usually not got such loose lips. Must have meant a lot to her for her to do it so officially.”

He chuckled and shook his head, leaving Enid with more questions than answers.

“Are you not allowed to tell non-council members?”

“Well it’s rather frowned upon to share information like gossip but it’s more important to keep packs from fighting from hearing about the tension that exists.”

Forgetting she was still standing in a store talking to the clerk as no one had interrupted them, the wolf kept up her questions.

“Why are you telling me then?”

He didn’t miss a beat as he explained his perspective.

“Because the Addams’ are smart enough not to get involved within all that business. Besides, it's been a long time since I’ve had a nice conversation with someone as talkative as yourself. Most customers barely say a hello. Not that I blame them, it’s just nice to have a change of pace.”

She understood that sentiment at least so considered she could likely get more out of him.

“Why did you need to review the case? Was there an issue with it?”

Jeremy shook his head and let out a small chuckle.

“Esther tried to contest the decision. Something that was already not taken very seriously given who she had fought against but trying to give the benefit of the doubt we looked it over. I wasn’t involved too much as it didn’t make its way down to me. With the video evidence it was a unilateral decision. That Wednesday was very smart to do that, indeed. May I ask if you know her? I don’t wish to pry but I am selfishly interested. Not that I’m asking for your position within the family! You know what, forget about it. That was a rude question.”

While the blonde was fine being told by Mrs Addams what to forget, she wasn’t going to extend that courtesy to the stranger.

“I do actually.”

He smiled and she could see such curiosity in his eyes. Deciding to circle back, she thought they could break a deal.

“So is this rumour of a newest Addams in the council?”

Jeremy shook his head once again and leaned his hands on the counter.

“That was rather rude, I’m sorry. I was a bit taken aback.”

Enid could tell his nervous energy in his laugh but she just waited for him to continue.

“More of a friend of the family thing. I talk occasionally to Eimar about werewolf matters, with Monroe as well. They have both told me about their excitement of meeting the newest Addams at the next family gathering.”

Having never heard either of those names, the wolf was a small part confused but also understood more. They must have been talking about someone else, it was likely there was someone who was married or had a baby and they were revealing that at the next time the family was going to all be together.

* * *

Not explaining her train of reasoning however, as she had already said she wasn’t related to the Addams and didn’t feel the need to reiterate. Still feeling a rather quick connection to the other wolf who had seemingly also been outcast for his sexuality from his pack and shared without thinking much like herself.

“I’m the one Wednesday used the duel to get Esther to stay away from me.”

Enid almost laughed at his reaction, he was clearly regretting saying a lot now he had a better idea of who he was talking to.

“I might need to work on my tact. So, I’m Jeremy, it is nice to meet you.”

Letting her laugh out as he attempted to restart the conversation, the blonde nodded and took his hand.

“I’m Enid. Wednesday’s girlfriend.”

Just as she had assumed sharing their queer commonality helped break the new ice.

His smile was back and he shook her hand energetically.

“I really should have put those pieces together. If I am to make an assumption then, I would assume you’ve had a similar upbringing as mine?”

Thinking back to her childhood was becoming less painful as everything led up to meeting Wednesday and she didn’t regret anything that led up to that.

“Yep, probably an easy guess with how Wens fought Esther on my behalf. I’m not much of a fighter.”

It seemed the clerk hadn’t quite made that connection as his reaction was rather unexpected.

“Oh of course! Forgive me for being so slow on the uptake. No wonder Esther was desperate to try and fight for you back! She must have realised how much of a mistake she had made. I must say I am glad however she no longer can, controlling parents are certainly the worst for wolves. It would have been an exceptional shame to have lost such a strong wolf as yourself to those ideals.”

Somehow it seemed Jeremy had a unique talent for confusing the young werewolf as she was even more lost how he had any idea of her strength or lack thereof.

“A strong wolf? I’m not anything like that.”

He laughed, obviously in disbelief of her words.

“Dear, how could you think such a thing? Your first ever transformation was under a blood moon! That is an incredible feat all in its own!”

She had to repeat her earlier question.

“How do you know that?”

The blonde spoke a bit too quickly in her confusion and worried she had come off more worried than she was.

“Now that’s just an insult to the council. We keep track of all werewolves. At least we do strive to. Helps with pack treaties and arguments. News of your first transformation spread like wildfire! I find it rather hard to believe you don’t know your own strength. Haven’t you noticed your wolf? I mean I can only imagine the size you must transform into with such strength inside you.”

Enid shrugged, she had no reference for what that should be.

“I haven’t actually seen any other werewolves. My pack completely excluded me from every full moon because I was a late bloomer.”

He let out a long sigh and nodded.

“Please forgive my ignorance, of course. Well I hope you realise just how strong you are, inside and out. I can tell you’re doing well since everything has happened and I wish you the absolute best for your future. Hopefully we’ll see each other around.”

The blonde nodded enthusiastically and finally took her leave from the store.

“Yeah same! It was lovely talking to you!”

The raven had no concept of how long she had spent staring at the sky.

With the sun setting far later with the summer season, it was impossible to tell the time. Fester had joined her at some point on the ground and Wednesday wondered just how different things were going to be.

From his small visit during her first semester at Nevermore to now, things were undoubtedly different with her uncle. She didn’t feel as enjoyable in her loneliness. She never quite wanted to be as solo as the electric psychic. Allies were useful and people could be used but her thoughts had changed a lot from that perspective.

She knew many people she didn’t want to use and had gotten used to many of their annoying presences as well.

“I think I need to relearn the hand to hand combat you have taught me.”

Completely counter to her inner monologue, she expressed a thought she had the last time they sparred.

Fester giggled and gave a small electric shock to the raven.

“You think you’ve slipped as much as I do, hm? You’ve certainly let me zap you more often than before.”

The psychic knew exactly why she had done that and for once didn’t hesitate to share her feelings.

“I have had too many negative connotations towards that sensation. It is refreshing to not associate it with visions and unfiltered gore. I would be able to enjoy such sights with more context, however I never have enough to justify what I see.”

As expected her uncle responded with as much seriousness as he could.

“Find out why those people get attacked and you’ll solve your problem. Easy peasy.”

Taking his ‘advice’ at face value, she questioned him about the vision she saw about his dagger.

“Ah you saw the serial killer? I do wish I could have met him myself. Such an intricate way he killed. Starved his victims for days before carving various symbols into them and adding basically everything that could sting into the wounds. Alcohol, salt, lemon juice. How imaginative! He had done the same to himself after taking twelve victims and the knife was plunged into his chest.”

That information did nothing for the raven and she wished she hadn’t asked. Not showing such on her face as her uncle didn’t need to know how much she really had changed, she merely gave a small nod.

He quickly shot up and Wednesday rolled over expecting the attack.

As his fist hit the ground, the psychic pulled him down to the forest floor again and stood up.

Fester giggled as he shot up himself and took an offensive stance.

Enid met up with the dove and walked back towards the manor not long after she left the electronics store.

The journey back was as quick as the one into town and she was sitting back in her shared bed, wondering where her roommate was.

Not wanting to find out this time as the last led to her first encounter with Fester, she simply sat in the bed. Waiting.

For a few minutes. Until her energy couldn’t be contained and she thought about what Arcadia had said earlier. By this time Mrs Addams would be in her library and she might be willing to occupy the colourful werewolf again.

“My darling wolf, it is a rather lovely day to be able to spend so much time together. Is there something you have in mind?”

The blonde smiled cheerfully at the dove and nodded her head.

“Um, yeah actually. So when we were in the divination store earlier…”

Trailing off slightly because she realised she didn’t know the name of the shop and thought that was likely rude given how close the two seemed.

“Arcadia mentioned about like, it might be possible for me to learn magic?”

The elder psychic had her own sweet smile as she gestured for Enid to come closer.

“I couldn’t think of a more wonderful way to spend time together. You already have shown much aptitude towards the psychic arts, I am sure you will take to it with enough practice. Unfortunately with Wednesday being your main example you might have a slight misunderstanding of how challenging witchcraft can be.”

At how much her roommate had been praised for her abilities, the wolf wasn’t too surprised at her warning.

“Oh no worries. I get how she’s like a totes a prodigy or something. I’m not expecting to be able to do anything like that.”

Mrs Addams’ smile only got warmer at her words and nodded her over. Laying out a large cloth with many symbols across it the blonde vaguely recognised through pop culture but wouldn’t dare diminish their importance by assuming that was an accurate representation.

“The basics of magic is your mana. Everyone has mana but its strength and amount is varied between people, with certain Outcasts having more or stronger mana than others.”

Instantly thinking of the raven, she nodded.

“Wens said my mana looks like pink and blue DNA or something, I didn’t really know what she meant though.”

It seems she had confused the elder psychic as well.

“Wednesday has said she could see your mana?”

Nodding slowly, she hoped she hadn’t said more than she should have.

“Umm, yeah. It was when we were breaking the curse on the necklace and she was using both our manas to help.”

The dove let out a long sigh while placing many candles along the corners of the cloth.

“We will have a lot to talk about when my mother arrives. I would like you to come along with us, if you are comfortable.”

Unsure why she was being invited but never wanting to seem rude, she quickly nodded.

“Oh sure! Like if you want me there, I wouldn’t dream of missing it. I don’t think I’ll be much help though.”

Mrs Addams closed her eyes and all the candles lit up at the same time.

“Your presence will be much appreciated, Enid.”

The blonde tried not to stare at all the flames, still being rather bewildered by magic.

“Whoa, that is so cool.”

The elder psychic smiled brightly at her, sitting down on the cloth and gestured for her to do the same.

Wasting no time, Enid quickly dropped down and sat across from the dove.

“Close your eyes and focus on my words. We will be attempting to focus on feeling our mana stores.”

Doing just as instructed, she waited for further direction. Mrs Addams walked her through a breathing exercise, mostly consisting of feeling every part of her body and what sensations were going through it.

The elder psychic reached out her hands and instructed the wolf to take them. Again following without complaint she did so and opened her eyes when she was told.

She let out a gasp as she saw exactly what Wednesday had described. In her arms, she could see pink and blue intertwining helices flowing through them but there was more.

She could see very dark red, thorny thin vines flowing through the dove in front of her.

“Can you feel your mana inside you?”

Realising Mrs Addams couldn’t see what she could, the blonde spoke softly.

“Um, yeah I can. And like. I think I’m seeing what Wens did. I don’t know what it is but like it looks just like she described it. I can also see like red thorny lines in your hands too.”

The elder psychic’s eyes were wider than she had ever seen them, she closed them and asked.

“Has anything changed?”

Not sure why anything would have but Enid noticed the vines were less pronounced than before.

“Oh yeah. Definitely. They’re like less prominent now.”

The dove opened her eyes and let out a breath.

“I expended some of my mana. I am rather confident what you and Wednesday are seeing is each other's mana now. It seems it isn’t limited to just the two of you either.”

Running with that, Enid’s mind wandered to what her girlfriend’s mana might look like.

“Wait, so what does that mean? Shouldn’t I have like no magical abilities like Wens? Cuz she’s a raven and all.”

Mrs Addams’ shoulders fell as she let out another breath.

“I am unaware. I think you might very well be part of the reason Wednesday keeps doing impossible things. We all have been underestimating your power.”

* * *

The first full moon of the summer was just on the horizon and the blonde knew it wasn't going to be an easy one. Not for the transformation itself but the surrounding effects of the lunar satellite.

Her night terrors had completely disappeared since they started sharing a bed but given the events of the last full moon, she expected them to return with a vengeance.

Enid didn't want to bother her roommate with them as the psychic had done so much to help since the very first time she had heard her scream in the middle of the night.

There was very little else she could do except sleep somewhere else but her inner wolf wasn't happy with that idea. To the point where it couldn't be thought of at all.

Sighing, she sat down on the bed and wrapped her arms around the awaiting psychic.

Querida mia, what is wrong?”

Staring into her girlfriend's brown eyes with that compassion she rarely saw was already doing a lot to calm her down.

The blonde let out another sign as she focused on the raven's slow heartbeat to steady her thoughts.

“Just a bit nervous, I think I'm going to have more nightmares.”

Wednesday pushed tighter into the her hold and rested her chin on her shoulder.

“I am here for you, mi arcoiris. You will never need to suffer through them alone again.”

The psychic gave her a kiss to her cheek and the wolf was completely settled in the bed. Taking in the scent of mint and focusing once more on the slow steady rhythm of her girlfriend's heart, she fell asleep soon after.

* * *

Unfortunately that didn't last long as the blonde woke with a start a few hours later. Wednesday wrapped her in a hug and was attempting to calm her down.

“Enid, I am here. I will always be here.”

Tears were streaming from the wolf's blue eyes. The psychic wasn’t sure what she could do and hoped her presence was enough.

She fully wrapped around the blonde, intertwining their legs for good measure. Believing the physical contact would help more than her words could.

Enid took a few moments to respond but when she did the raven wasn't sure what she meant.

“It's my fault.”

“What was? You were shouting my name in your sleep.”

“I waited. I didn’t do anything. I made you stay!”

Wednesday stroked the wolf’s head as she cried into her shoulder.

“You cannot have done nothing and yet made me stay.”

Pointing out the flaw in the blonde’s argument didn’t seem to help but without knowing when she meant there was little the psychic could think to do.

“I froze, I didn’t run like you said.”

That made things click for her. There was not many times when she had told her roommate to run, she wasn’t sure if there was more than one time in fact.

“Enid, you are not to blame with what happened with the stalker. I acted to protect you and I would do the same again. My only regret was I was unable to ensure your safety after I was drugged.”

With everything that happened after that as well, the initial abduction felt like a blur to the raven. It had only lasted a few seconds and with the magic she expelled, in combination with the drugs, she was quite confident she wasn’t going to be able to truly recall everything perfectly. However she didn’t need to in order to know it wasn’t her roommate’s fault.

“If I had just moved, if I had just ran like you said we both could have been safe!”

There was no point debating what if’s. Certainly not since everything had worked out in the end. Perhaps the only thing she would do differently would be to ensure Ciaran suffered more. In her haste to see Enid again she had to rush and when the wolf appeared, she needed to make sure he couldn’t hurt her.

“I don’t know what happened after. Yoko and Thing found me in the morning. I was asleep! While you were being tortured, I was just lying about doing nothing.”

“That was not your fault either. It was just after the full moon. He intended to abduct you then for that very reason. He knew you wouldn’t have been at your full strength. He is the one to blame. Ciaran decided to abduct me, he is the one who attacked us. You do not deserve to feel blame for what happened.”

The blonde responded with an anger that completely surprised Wednesday.

“Yes I do! I was useless! I don’t even know why I couldn’t move, I just. Something just felt wrong and I couldn’t figure out why. And my mind was just focusing too hard to understand what was happening.”

Given what was thrown at them, the actions or inactions Enid took were not surprising to the psychic however.

“He used silver. You instinctively realised the danger and it overwhelmed you. You have taught me such a feeling isn’t something I should feel guilt over. If that is true then you should not either.”

While that felt like an underhanded tactic, the raven wasn’t sure what others she could use to try and convince her roommate she shouldn’t be blaming herself for what happened

“But our lives were at stake! Its not like. You know. That’s a really bad time to feel overwhelmed, it mattered then. Not just feeling a bit too much when we kiss.”

Unfortunately it seemed the wolf’s emotional state was transferable as Wednesday drew a rather grim conclusion.

“It does not matter when I feel overwhelmed?”

She spoke with confidence she didn’t feel as what she really felt was confusion. That seemed to be counter to a lot of what the blonde had taught her but it was also coming from the same source. She couldn't suppress the possibility that Enid might have been stretching the truth in the past.

“Oh my God! Of course not! Ugh, I’m awful. I don’t care how much it sounded like that. I. Did. Not. Mean. That. I’m just feeling awful and I’m being self-deprecating. At your expense, as well. Which is even worse. I’m even worse.”

That cleared up the confusion at the very least. She thought about what the wolf had done for her mental state after she awoke from her vision and she lamented how she couldn’t help her girlfriend in the same way.

“If I had any of your positive energy left, I would transfer it to you. I imagine any of my energy would only make things worse.”

The blonde laughed a little into the psychic’s shoulder, nuzzling into the cold touch more now that her tears have stopped.

“Who knows? Maybe you’re super smart brain would get why I’m such an idiot. Whoa, what if like that actually happened! I could do super well in exams!”

The raven considered how that would be a rather creative and unprovable way to cheat if it did work and how unexpected it was her roommate would suggest such a thing.

“Ugh okay, I am still super tired and want to sleep. I do want to talk more about this when my mind is clearer cuz there is some stuff that I don’t understand but thanks for calming me down, Wens.”

Completely unsure if she really had done such a thing but glad Enid seemed to think she had, Wednesday gave a small nod into her shoulder.

When a small growl left the wolf’s lips, she gave a soft smile at how fast her roommate could fall asleep.

* * *

Enid wasn't sure when to tell her roommate she had started learning magic. Well she had started starting learning magic.

She hadn't spent any more time with Mrs Addams on the topic for a few reasons. Her main one being she didn't want to feel like she was going behind Wednesday's back, working with her mother on something the psychic was doing as well.

She also wanted them to learn together. Even if the raven was likely going to completely outdo anything the wolf did, she still thought it would be a lot of fun.

They didn't share too many interests and especially not ones they were able to do together so she was holding out hope that Wednesday would put aside any issues she had with her mom so they could all work together.

She also wanted Mrs Addams to be aware of the strange place her girlfriend seemed to find herself with no rhyme or reason because she might have more knowledge about it and what to do if it happens again.

Better yet a way to completely stop Wednesday from going there in the first place.

Convincing her best friend to do both of those things however was going to be a rather challenging feat. Especially because she wanted the raven to enjoy herself as much as she knew she was going to.

She didn't want to spend the time together if her girlfriend hated every second of it.

She had thought about asking the dove for help but knowing how the psychic felt about her mother that didn't seem like a good idea. WWWD? Be direct, that was the obvious answer.

If Wednesday wanted something from her, she likely wouldn't even say hello. It was a skill she felt quite envious of at times. She always felt like there were more things she wanted to talk about but she could never find the time or the way to ask about them.

Proving her own point she got distracted thinking if her girlfriend ever thought WWED? It was possible, after all the psychic knew she had adopted such a philosophy during the Poe Cup.

She had done a lot of things over the last semester she wouldn't normally have considered Wednesday but she wasn't sure if she would consider them Enid.

Absolutely not any of the raven's romantic gestures that's for sure. She was often dumbfounded by just how easily it seemed to come to Wednesday as she didn't have many of her own good ideas

Well she allowed one, she had one good idea but after that conservatory date she had come up with before they were even dating and somewhat by accident, there wasn't much romance in her.

Which wasn't partially fun for her. She wanted to change that but she was quite stuck on it. She didn't know if her girlfriend did romantic gestures she would enjoy or she expected the wolf too.

If it was the latter the raven knew her very well and if it was the former. Could it ever be the former? Wednesday just didn't seem like the type to enjoy such traditional romantic gestures.

Although it's not like Enid thought she seemed like the type to want to do such things either. Even if she only did them because she knew how much the wolf would enjoy them, she still went out of her way to do them.

Making the blonde more invested in trying to find her own brand of romance that would also work well with Wednesday.

After going on such a mental tangent, Enid couldn't remember what she wanted to do in the first place.

* * *

Wednesday realised she hadn't spent as much time torturing Pugsley as he deserved. Everything seemed to be getting in the way of things she actively enjoyed doing before she had met her roommate.

While she wouldn't ever want to take that back, she lamented how some of her other hobbies were being neglected.

She had come to that train of thought from Fester showing how much her hand to hand combat was lacking. Over the semester she hadn't played her cello much or attended more than a handful of fencing practices.

She didn't think she had wasted much of the semester but with her new magical interests, she knew her other hobbies were going to suffer even more.

She needed to find a way to fit everything into her packed schedule. While school ‘work’ was going to get ‘harder’ she didn't worry about any ability to keep up but she did consider how she had ended up spending a lot of her time tutoring.

The psychic didn’t mind it in terms of the activity, telling people they were wrong was something she found rather enjoyable and even helping them improve wasn't as terrible either.

It was still something that had to fit into her limited time enduring the world and for the first time she wasn't sure how to balance everything.

Over the summer at least she had very few tasks she was needing to do. She still had no luck with finding ways to summon Erin's spirit with only a necklace to work with. She assumed that should have been enough but it only was for communication.

For some reason it was easier for living people to cross into the spiritual realm than the other way round. Supposing that made some sense as everyone would go to the spirit world eventually when they died but the other way had to be forced.

To some degree, there are phenomena where spirits were able to cross into the living world without being called but none were well known enough to be able to rely on.

Realising she had been lost in thought, the raven finally pulled her brother's head out from the tub of water.

* * *

The night terrors continued every night until the full moon, with the wolf adamant that she wanted to talk about them later yet she never did.

Her reasoning being she wanted to wait until she had a clearer head to think about it. She kept moving that goal post until it became completely after the full moon.

She didn’t want to think about it but it never felt like a conscious choice, every night she awoke she didn’t want to dwell on the nightmares and when the next day arrived she seemed to have forgotten about it without even trying.

The psychic was more worried about that behaviour. She knew how guilt could eat away at someone slowly over time, not from her own experiences of course. She didn’t believe she ever felt undeserved guilt and so it didn’t affect her the same way.

However it was clear to her that her roommate did not share any blame in what happened and she wanted to prove that to her somehow.

There were very few ideas in her mind about how to do such since that sort of guilt had a way of tricking the brain into believing what it wanted.

Still somewhat wishing that a conversation was going to at least put the worries to some ease, she was prepared to wait until Enid was comfortable talking about it.

The night of the full moon would not be that time. Her best choice was the night just after, assuming the wolf would get a lot of sleep as she had been sorely lacking from her nightmares then she would be well rested and able to discuss what they needed to.

“Feels weird not like, worrying about actually wolfing out. Since you and your mom got me out of the lupin cages, there isn’t like much difference to wolfing out here or at Nevermore. Although the privacy is nice. Honestly, I’m glad there wasn’t another full moon after what happened last time. Feels much safer here. Actually yeah there is a big difference. Here is way better, like always.”

Wednesday only gave a small nod to her roommate’s words. She very much wanted to latch onto the obvious topic but she knew she had to wait. In just over twenty four hours the full moon would be over and her roommate will have gotten the sleep she desperately needed.

To prove her own point, Enid yawned into her hand as they sat on the grass, the slight chill of night hadn’t quite crept its way into the breeze yet in the summer air.

“It’s way too relaxing here. If we’re not careful, I might just fall asleep.”

Rather curious what the outcome of that might be, the psychic rested her head on the blonde’s shoulder and tried to debate what the correct course of action would be.

“You will be getting a good rest tonight, I imagine. It has always been more consoling within the manor.”

Enid nodded and rested her own head on the raven’s.

“True, I haven’t got much sleep recently. I’ll be glad to have the moon over with so I can sleep for more than four hours again, I don’t know how on Earth you do that.”

Wednesday gave a small shrug as they sat together, content it seemed like her roommate agreed with her.

“Well we better get ready, otherwise I really will fall asleep right here, although that actually sounds pretty good.”

With a small giggle, the wolf bounced to her feet and the psychic quickly followed suit. Going back to their room to grab the expected supplies for the transformation in a few hours.

They didn’t have a usual spot within the Addams’ estate like they did at Nevermore. Since they had a lot more space here than at the high school, there wasn’t much need to limit themselves to a smaller area.

* * *

As they were walking into the forest, the raven's mind wandered if the blonde would want the other members of the family to be there during her transformation someday.

She knew it was common for werewolf families to all spend their time together on the full moon but since Enid had never had that, she didn’t know if she would want it or how appropriate it would be to ask.

Thinking that was a topic for another day as they had much more pressing issues to talk about before she brought up any that related to the pack that had failed her roommate every chance they got.

Those familiar sounds brought the psychic back to her senses and she stood in awe, as she always did, in front of the magnificent form of her werewolf girlfriend.

Ha pasado demasiado tiempo una vez más, lobita mia.

Before she could translate the words she spoke for the wolf, she was tackled down the ground, remembering how they had to compromise for their last moon due to her injury, the raven was more than willing to get back to their usual routine.

Seemingly Enid had other ideas, as when she went to roll them over to continue their play fight the blonde kept her held tightly to her chest.

After some wiggling, Wednesday realised she was in no way strong enough to move out of the wolf’s grasp.

In some part disheartened by how much Enid had been holding back in the past but even more proud of her strength.

The psychic tried to understand what was happening.

¿Lobita mia? What is wrong?”

The blonde wrapped around her large frame entirely around the raven, much like she had done when Wednesday had fallen into a vision.

Using the small movement to get her arms free, she cupped Enid's head and looked into her eyes.

“What is it, Enid? Are you in distress?”

The blonde only responded with a small growl and placed her head on top of the psychic’s. Completely surrounded by the large werewolf, Wednesday was trying not to feel uncomfortable by the strong heat she was feeling.

The cooler night air was helping but Enid was unparalleled in her ability to radiate warmth it seemed.

She wasn’t able to get anything else out of her girlfriend, no matter how much she tried. While she knew the wolf couldn’t communicate with her words, she wondered just how much her roommate understood while she was in this form.

After their first night in the manor, she had remembered everything post her transformation and the favours during it so Wednesday didn’t consider how much she might be aware.

Remembering as well the blonde had responded to all of her questions and challenges during that first night as well, she certainly had a lot of awareness while in the form.

That led to her behaviour tonight to be even more confusing. While the psychic noticed her roommate being more physical even in her wolf form when she was injured, she wasn’t anymore.

Most of the reason, if not all, was because of the wolf. So now it seemed strange for her to be so… Wednesday wasn’t sure of the word.

Her girlfriend had never been so forcefully protective, she landed on. Every time the psychic moved she was met with a small growl or Enid squeezing her even closer.

It was getting rather cramped in the small space she was allowed and she was quickly needing to find a way to escape the hold.

“Enid. Can you let me go?”

When her words weren’t greeted with any response, she looked up to the wolf and realised her eyes were closed. Hoping to use this to her advantage, she slowed down her perception to pry herself away from the grip.

Even with the more time she had, it was completely impossible to escape.

Sighing through her nose, she tried to think of a way to make the situation she had found herself in to be more comfortable.

Recalling all the spells she had read in her mother’s books but none seemed quite useful to her current position.

She landed on the meditation practice she hadn’t bothered much with in the past, her mind was always clear enough to cast without needing to do any preparation but now she had a time where she didn’t want to be in her surroundings.

Closing her eyes and steadying her breaths, she started counting up to four, a few times. When nothing had changed, she supposed she didn’t know what was meant to.

She opened her eyes with a sigh but they went quite wide as the raven had no idea where she was.

Notes:

Hopefully the wait has been worth it! I'm so excited to post the next part of this fic, though this time there will be a month between chapters.

You read the chapter counter right (unless you didn't look, go do that now), this part has ended up far longer than I first expected. I was debating splitting it but I didn't feel like it was a complete story to warrant ending it halfway.

Even though I'm not splitting the fic, I am planning on taking a break after the first fifteen chapters. Mostly so I can go over everything again and make sure I'm happy with it before posting. At my current rate it would be another year before I post again if I didn't start.

I am so overwhelmed with all the kind words the first part of this fic has gotten and I do hope you enjoy this part just as much! (maybe even a little more) (:
