Work Text:
It was one of the hottest days in Camp Half-Blood history, and Nico felt like he was going to pass away from the heat.
He was lounging underneath Thalia's pine tree, contemplating all the kids down at the lake while he occasionally took a sip from a large McDonald's Coke. He had been sitting there for thirty minutes before Will found him.
“Hey Death Boy, trying to get away from the heat?” Will sat down next to Nico.
“Yeah, it's not working though.” He shrugged. “How are you doing?”
Will leaned his head against Nico's. “Good, I guess. I mean I'm not busy like usual.”
Nico nodded. “That's good, more time to hang out with me, then.” He smiled.
Will laughed at that. He laced his fingers with Nico's and leaned over to give him a kiss.
“I love you, Death boy”
“Me too, Night light.”
They sat there in silence, looking out at the camp. The scene reminded Nico of when he sat atop a hill watching the italian sunset with his mom and his sister Bianca. Nico's eyes began to water at the memory.
Will looked up at Nico and noticed the faint smile and the watery eyes and moved closer to Nico to comfort him. After a few seconds, Nico broke and let the tears fall down his pale cheeks.
“Hey! Hey, what's wrong?” Will asked worriedly.
“I miss Bianca, I miss my mom, I miss Italy.” Nico sobbed quietly. He felt homesick for the life he used to live before Zeus intervened with his life and messed it up.
Will sat up and pulled Nico close, letting the pale boy cry into his shoulder. Will rubbed circles into Nico's back in a comforting manner.
“I know, I know. And that's perfectly reasonable.” Will said softly.
Nico let out another soft sob, “I don't deserve you.” He muttered quietly.
Will smiled gently. “Yes, you do. Why do you think we met? The fates planned for us to be together, so that I could comfort you and you could help me through the hard times.” Will admitted.
Nico smiled back, “Thanks, mi amore.” He wiped the tears from his eyes and hugged Will tightly. Will hugged back and planted a small kiss on his boyfriend's forehead. “You're welcome, honey.”
They sat there for a few more minutes, lounging in each other's presence. After a while, Nico broke the silence. “Can your dad turn down the heat of the sun? Or does he not control that?”
Will frowned in confusion. Nico couldn’t help but think of how cute Will looked when he had his face scrunched up in concentration. “You know…. I actually don’t know. I’d have to ask him next time he stops by.” He shrugged and looked at Nico. He stood up and offered his hand to Nico. “It’s hot as hell right now. Do you wanna stop by the strawberry fields and pick some strawberries with me?”
Nico nodded and took his hand. Will pulled him up, and they began walking down the hill, their hands still clasped together.
