Work Text:

Kirk was quite sure that Spock wouldn’t appreciate being told that his cold weather gear was cute. Unfortunately, it was very cute. How else could he describe the oversized puffy jacket, the chunky scarf, and the beanie slowly inching its way down Spock’s forehead?

Especially since he knew the latter two were handmade by Chekov. He’d been very enthusiastic in his new knitting hobby, handing out his homemade creations to nearly everyone in the crew. Kirk hadn’t been left out, though he’d opted out of wearing his own chunky scarf on this outing. It didn’t seem dignified for a Starfleet captain, even if this was shore leave and not a mission.

Kirk reached out to adjust Spock’s beanie, shifting it back so it wouldn’t fall over his eyes. “It looks good on you,” he said, not sure if the amusement was as hidden from his voice as he’d like.

Spock didn’t seem to catch on at least. “Thank you, Captain,” he replied. “Lieutenant Uhura assured me that this was appropriate clothing for our shore leave outing.”

“Uhura was correct as always,” Kirk said with a grin. He wondered if she was trying to meddle somehow or if she was just amusing herself by using Spock as a dress up doll. Either way, he thought she’d done good. “I guess we’re ready to head down then, huh?”

Spock nodded. “I believe we are.”

Kirk looked over at the ensign who was studiously pretending not to be able to hear the conversation and just grinned even wider. He held out a hand to Spock, two fingers extended. A moment later Spock brushed his own fingers against them, his cheeks flushing slightly green over the edge of his scarf at the public display of affection, tame as it was.

Together, they headed for the transport pad. Down on the planet, a whole week of snow, cozy fires, and plenty of time to read was awaiting them. And privacy, of course. Kirk couldn’t wait.

“Let’s get this show on the road!”
