knock knock*
This wasn’t unusual for Light Yagami. Everyday since his senior year in high school he had become the main suspect in one of the largest murder cases to date. Despite his persistent plea of innocence, he was still kept under strict supervision.
“Light? It’s your father. L wants you downstairs soon for daily observation.”
Light Yagami already knew what he wanted before he had even spoke. This had been what the majority of his young adult life had been spent doing. Unlike others his age who were busy partying, continuing school, starting families, Light had spent his years on a leash. A leash that was held by a cruel owner.
Without a word, Light slid out of bed like he had every other day. He knew that L had been watching him since before he had even opened his eyes. Against the stark white walls of the room, and the basic blocky furniture, light looked more like a lab rat then someone who was simply “helping with the investigation”
He had grown paler, less life like, as the idea of being executed at any moment made such actions seem futile.Did Light think he would ever truly escape this? Maybe at one point, but the Light that now dwelled behind those sunken eyes knew better. Light had always thought L found joy in watching him anger, or to watch him cry in frustration as his efforts led nowhere. Light simply decided to stop giving L what he wanted in a desperate attempt to gain some kind of control over his life that he once knew. Maybe at one point, the younger and more ambitious version of light enjoyed the attention, but now he yearned for isolation.
As light made his way down the cold dark halls, dread filled his chest. This rush of emotion wasn’t new, in fact it was as normal as the sun rise, it was only that was yet to come that would determine the days outcome.
“Ah, there you are.” Ryuzaki turned away from his monitor to face Light, remaining seated.
“You know, if you were more punctual maybe we would get more work done and you could have your free time sooner.” He reminded Light as if he could not come to that conclusion himself.
“Maybe we would both have more free time if you didn’t insist as keeping me prisoner in the hell hole” Light was in no mood for Ryuzaki’s snide remarks.
“Fine be that way. Although I’m sure someone who was so persistent about their innocence would carry themselves with more regard.” Ryuzaki had a way of getting under lights skin.
Light didn’t know why he had let L get to him the way he did. He was right, if he truly was innocent why would he be so disgruntled? I guess you could say it was because he lost his chance at a normal life or that he had long forgotten how to go about a normal life but light had given up trying to figure it out.
