Summary:

Newly divorced, newly out, and still trying to work out what the rest of his life might look like, Stede Bonnet moves to a small village to remain close to his children and begins volunteering at the local animal rescue, where frightened cats, nervous dogs and a collection of unexpected new friends slowly give shape to his empty days.

Ed Teach is the exhausted head vet who has allowed the clinic—and one appallingly behaved calico—to consume nearly every part of a life that has grown far too quiet outside it.

When Stede’s peculiar talent for earning an animal’s trust brings them together, two lonely men who have become very good at making themselves useful to everyone else begin to wonder whether they might finally have found somewhere—and someone—to belong to.
