Chapter Text
I anxiously page through my resume for what feels like the hundredth time. I graduated top of my class with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Economics and Finance, glowing recommendations from all of my professors, and by all means qualified to work at any company of my choosing. And that would be the case if the job market wasn’t complete and total shit leaving me applying to be a secretary at J-Corp instead of a Financial Analyst.
How completely pathetic.
I glance around at the dozens of other girls feeling completely out of place. Half of them are reapplying their makeup and the other half are fixing their hair. I can’t honestly blame them as the man searching for a secretary is one of Japans most eligible bachelors, Nanami Kento.
Nanami fucking Kento.
I’m pretty sure about 80% of the room just wants to fuck him or get fucked by him instead of actually wanting the job. Not that i’m any better, I mean i’m not blind, i’ve seen the man and thought about it just as much as the next girl. I just can’t afford to bomb yet another interview, even if it’s one for a job i’m beyond overqualified for.
I glance down at my watch. 3:45pm. Shit. The interviews are supposed to end at 5 and there’s at least half a dozen girls ahead of me. He’s averaging 30 minutes per person which means that at that rate we’re going to be beyond overtime by the time he reaches me. That’s if he even decides to interview me at all.
Fuck.
“No y/n, now is not the time to panic. Deep breaths.” I tell myself, fists clenched so tight I worry I might draw blood. “Even if he does get to you he has to reschedule… right?” I force those thoughts away and focus on preparing myself for any question he might have for me.
Time drags on impossibly slowly and one by one each girl walks in and out of his office.Their expressions are a range of different emotions from embarrassment to smug satisfaction which does nothing for my growing anxiety.
It’s 6:55pm by the time his cheery voiced assistant calls out my name. I glance around as if to confirm he’s talking to me only to realise i’m the last person waiting. Which is great. Just great.
“Ms L/n?” He asks as I stand and when I nod he smiles softly in sympathy. “We are truly sorry for the wait, it seems we greatly underestimated the amount of applicants!” The pink haired male states with a chuckle, “I’m Yuji, is that your resume?” he nods towards the papers in my hands.
“Yes! It is! Sorry I was surprised the interviews were in person instead of online like other places?” I say as i hand over the file trying not to seem too nervous. “Is there a reason why?”
“Not sure,” Yuji answers, cheerful attitude never faltering, “The boss is just like that with certain things… thorough I guess,” he trails off before perking right back up. “Anyways we shouldn’t keep him waiting any longer, right this way please!”
He opens the large brown oak doors to an office with the Nameplate ‘Kento Nanami, COO.’ attached practically in gold.
I nod and take a deep breath before walking in after Yuuji.
Yuuji makes his way over to the desk and hands him my resume while I take in the room around me.
His office is large and smells of Sandalwood, Smoke and Expensive Coffee. The room is spacious and designed with tasteful elegance, floor to ceiling windows line the right wall providing a breathtaking view of the toyko skyline. Leather chairs sit in front of a large dark oak wood desk that’s somehow neatly cluttered with papers. And Behind the desk, is him.
His tie is loosened from it’s normally tight knot that allows his top buttons to be undone. The sleeves of his shirt and pushed up that defines the natural swell of his biceps all too well. He runs a hand through his hair, slightly ruffling the perfect blonde strands as he leans back in his chair.
“Y/n l/n?” he reads aloud while looking at my resume. He finally meets my gaze and i swear I catch a flicker of a smirk on his face before he quickly schools his expression and pushes back his glasses.
“Please, take a seat.”
