Chapter Text
Is it a dream?
Snape was at his home with his problem child, dealing with paperwork. He had to work through much trouble to get that kid safe. He didn't know what had happened there exactly, but he knows it's probably abuse. He was dealing with Dumbledore and trying to get rid of the Daily Prophet by Rita Skeeter.
--
Dazai feels weird. Without Mori the world feels complicated. It’s hard to know what to do when he gets no orders but also... freedom?
Here, he gets a comfortable mattress, unlike back at his room in the Port Mafia. His mattress was rock hard since Mori insisted it helps with his back. Dazai didn’t have a reason not to believe him.
He also gets a lock, something he never had, he didn't really know the concept of privacy. Whenever Dazai was showering when Mori forced him too, sometimes he would watch him. Then Dazai was aggressive and tried to push him out but Mori's strength was overwhelming. It’s was extremely uncomfortable and
At the Port Mafia his clothes were either the itchy dresses that still gave a shiver through his body or the uncomfortable suits. Here he gets whatever he wants to wear. A choice.
And what happened after the scalpel incident... he removed the bandage and there was only remaining a small and very unnoticeable scar that you can barely catch. However, his eye sight was a problem he refused to acknowledge. His eye sight was -5.5 which was that most of was vision was VERY bad.
“Is it a dream? Or just a lie?” Dazai thought, he tried to react as good as he could because now, he realised, he doesn’t want to go back. Or does he? He feels like... he misses the pain.
Snape knew about Dazai’s eye, but didn't question it, yet. He thought it was still a touching subject to Dazai, so he was going to talk about it with him, later.
Right now;
Dazai was sitting on his bed with simple night clothes reading a transfiguration book. When he heard Snape's footsteps towards his door and watched the handle press down, he panicked for a heartbeat but forced himself to calm down.
Snape came in. "Dazai, do you want to have some sweet tea with me?" Snape asked calmly, he didn't know yet that Dazai didn't sweets, or at least that Dazai hadn't showed that he liked them.
For Dazai, his mindset was simple, everything that made him have 'unnecessary' emotions (like happiness) he would refuse to touch them. But now that he was safe, at least for now. He thought that It’s rude not to ‘obey’ the one person who saved him. But at the same time, he didn’t want to show weaknesses.
Dazai stood up and said confidently "I don't really liked sweets... but I guess I could try," he shifted slightly and added. "But make sure it's not too sweet."
Dazai stood up, feeling his muscles stretching, and went to the table. "What is that tea anyway?"
"It's a honey tea, not much honey but enough to get the right taste." Snape replied softly. His hand reached for a jar of biscuits and offered one to Dazai. "Dazai, do you want a biscuit alongside your tea?"
"Sure..." Dazai answered his hand reached for a biscuit. At the end he ate four, which he didn't expect even from himself, but it was good.
Now, Snape was sitting with Dazai who was talking about his time with Blaise in Hogwarts and their ‘gang’. Snape wanted to bring Dazai’s eye in to the current conversation.
Snape cleared his throat and spoke, “Dazai, can I talk to you about something? It’s important.” He shifted slightly in his chair and really, really looked at Dazai this time. The bandages, the bad hygiene, the slight dilated pupils.
“Yes, Professor Snape? What did I do now?” Dazai asked, Dazai thought it was about his eye, he was aware that one day the conversion will come to that, at the end yes, it did. “Is it about the eye?”
“Yes, Dazai. It’s about your eye. It’s concerning how you can barely can see in your eye, and don’t give me the ‘I’m fine’ answer. What exactly happens? I promise I won’t tell anyone you don’t want to.” All of his attention shifted to Dazai, waiting for the bandaged boy to start talking.
“I’m fine professor, I promise. I swear it’s not a big deal anyway. It’ll pass in a few weeks, I’m sure.” Dazai shifted slightly in is chair, he was sure he seems like he was telling the truth but at the end he knew Snape’s probably told him otherwise.
“Dazai. Do not insult my intelligent. I’m taking you to an eye doctor in two days and you better be dressed and act appropriately. And not because I want to punish you but because I care about you and you cannot continue ignoring your medical needs. Agreed?”
Dazai rolled his eyes and practically spat “Fine,” he sat straight and asked. “Can you at least buy me canned crab?” It was Dazai’s favourite food and the one he would actually eat without complaining, except dark chocolate.
“Only if you behave appropriately.”
Slight time skip
Dazai was dressed in a simple, slightly over sized shirt and regular pants and Snape was dressed in all black like always.
They were walking in the street and a lot of strangers began to whisper around them.
“Is that the demon student?”
“The demon student came to kill us...!”
Snape was guiding Dazai through the crowd and then murmured in a low voice. “Osamu, don’t listen to them. They're idiots that’s all.” They began to get closer to the optometrist.
Once when they were at the door and came in, they had to wait for the doctor to be free to check Dazai but as soon as the doctor saw Dazai she took Snape to the side, assuming he was Dazai’s parent or at least guardian, which he was.
“Mr. Snape. I’m afraid I cannot treat him, he is the demon student and it will put impression on the eye clinic.” The woman said professionally but with slight fear in her eyes that Dazai saw but intentionally ignored to keep the ‘innocent boy” facade.
“Doctor Stanton. I’m afraid that I cannot accept that, he needs that. Fine... I’ll pay double. Now, can you treat the poor boy?” Snape said feeling a headache coming and pain for his wallet that he was pulling from his robes.
“Fine, but both of you are not coming back here until after the demon student new, agreed?” She told him still slightly uncertain but she was putting all the equipment for Dazai.
“Agreed. Dazai come here, she’ll soon started checking your eye,” Snape watched Dazai roll his eyes and come up from his sit to the doctor’s office. “And don’t roll your eyes at me.”
After Doctor Stanton checked his eye and said that he’s vision is now -5.5, now made Snape extremely concerned, recommended glasses but,
“I don’t want glasses. Can I have lenses instead? They look way more comfortable anyway.” Dazai spoke up defensively with a slight grumpy expression.
“sure, Doctor Stanton, how much will that be?”
At the end, they got him the lenses and he was happy. Now they wereat home and Dazai was enjoying his canned crab happily. While Snape replayed all of his thoughts and came to a conclusion; he’s going to find why. Why did he have a small scar, bad eye sight and why did he lie and said he was ‘mugged’?
