Work Text:
"Get in, princess. We're leavin'."
Past Seth's wicked grin, Kevin spotted Aaron in the driver's seat, sunglasses slipping down his nose, one hand resting on the gearshift. Kevin raised an eyebrow in question, received a shrug in response.
"Whole summer to kill."
Excuses lay on the tip of his tongue– practice, schoolwork, anything– but all died before they could reach the air. Instead, Kevin found himself sliding into the backseat of Seth's truck, as the radio cranked up to deafening and Aaron drove like something was chasing them. Trees flew past the window in a sun-bleached blur, as tattooed fingers reached behind the passenger seat to catch hold of Kevin's hand. He didn't pull away.
"Sound good?" Aaron asked, hazel eyes fixed on the rearview.
Kevin nodded, rested his forehead on the back of Seth's chair. Their voices faded back into the rush of wind past the open windows. Late afternoon melted over the horizon, sunlight dyeing the both of them golden. Kevin didn't ask where they were going. It dawned on him, somewhere on the interstate that he didn't care.
And if they only got one motel room that night to save money, well. Nobody else had to know.
