Work Text:
As much as Tony loved having JARVIS back, he had not missed the nagging about taking care of himself.
Okay, he had, but it was still annoying.
And with JARVIS further teaching FRIDAY, he had double the nagging to deal with while Pepper and the kids weren't home. In his wife's case, it was work, and Harley was with her as her intern to learn the business world. Peter was at Ned's, Abby was with Rosa, Morgan was having a sleepover at the Bartons, and Nebula was on a mission. No one aside from Tony's AIs were there to stop him from continuing to work well beyond midnight.
"Sir, you need to get some rest."
Tony waved him off for the third time, bent over Harley's Mustang to work on the engine. It was only a tune up, only one thing on the extensive list of things he wanted to do before he shut his eyes again. The ice maker noise was calling to him, begging to be fixed. "I'm fine, J. Quit worrying."
"I believe I have ten years worth of worrying to make up for, and you haven't given me a reason not to."
Tony paused, eyes going to the ceiling even though he very much knew he didn't need to. "Guilt trip much?" He didn't want to admit that it had worked to make him waver.
"Not my intention, Sir, no, but FRIDAY has informed me of some of your habits while everyone is away."
"FRIDAY, my darling, you would betray me like that?"
"Sorry Boss," she said in a voice that was absolutely not sorry. "You have taught me to reason, and it was best to let JARVIS know everything due to his more extensive experience with you."
He huffed. "You make it sound like I'm some piece of dynamite."
He could almost feel JARVIS's eye roll. "Sir, sometimes that is exactly what you are. Now, will you please go to bed?"
"Sorry buddy." He grabbed a wrench off the table, ignoring how his right arm strained and tried to spasm. "I need to finish this, and fix the ice maker, and-"
"It looks like we'll have to bring out the big gun, brother," FRIDAY cut him off way too happily, making it take an extra moment to register exactly what she said.
"Big gun?" He echoed, putting down the wrench.
"Yes, Sir. Or, more aptly, big fire extinguisher."
That was all the warning Tony got before Dum-E was there, beeping excitedly at him with his fire extinguisher ready to go. Immediately, Tony jumped from his seat, scrambling to get back. "Okay, okay, hold your fire, or, well, you know what I mean-" He shook his head, clearing his mistake. "I'll go to bed, sheesh."
"Good choice, Sir."
Dum-E chirped in excitement and rolled away, holding up the fire extinguisher turned weapon turned blackmail as if it were a trophy of his victory, and Tony glared at the camera as he climbed the stairwell.
"Mean, conspiring AIs. I should donate both of you to city colleges."
"You do that, Boss," FRIDAY replied, and if Tony wasn't mistaken, there was laughter in her voice. He rolled his eyes, trying not to smile, and headed up to get a quick shower before going to bed.
Laying under the blankets with the lights dimming, he found himself sinking into it all, unable to pout or show his displeasure when sleep pulled so gently on his mind, lulling him toward oblivion.
And though they had been completely and utterly unfair... "Love you guys," he mumbled, pulling his blankets closer to him.
"We love you, Boss."
"Indeed. Get some sleep, Sir. You deserve it."
Tony cracked a small smile before his mind slipped into darkness.
