Chapter Text
Oh, how strange men can be.
Invisigal had the hots for Robert the moment he gave her that pep-talk. The one that ended with a supervillain in handcuffs and her spot on the Z-Team secured. Then there was the bar fight at the Sardine, where she and Robert broke the noodle arms of some Red Ring prick together. Then…the goodbye kiss in the locker room. How could such a basic, average-looking white guy be such a badass? How could he be so hot? How could Robert, the averagest of average American males, turn her down?
Invisigal isn’t jealous, or anything. Just confused. Blonde Blazer didn’t have any better luck. Went on a full date with him and everything, kissed him outside the SDN, just for him to ask to “pump the brakes” the next morning. Blonde Blazer, the effortlessly perfect superheroine that every straight male (and sapphic gal) had a wet dream about at some point, got turned down by…him. Robert Robertson.
“Two beautiful women begging to fondle his balls and he friendzoned both? Robbie must be gay.” Invisigal thinks to herself. It’s the only logical explanation.
Blonde Blazer doesn’t dwell on it as much as Invisigal. Robert wasn’t rude about it or anything. He just made it clear that he wasn’t ready for a relationship. Maybe she was rushing into things, too. After all, she had only just broken up with Phenomaman. Perhaps it was for the best that she remained single for a while. Blazer taps on her desk, considering whether or not to do it. Finally, she makes up her mind, leaning into the intercom.
“Invisigal? Meet me in my office, please.” She announces.
It only takes Invisigal thirty minutes to respond to Blazer’s call, her expression casual as she struts into her bosses office like she owns the place. “Yeah, Blazer? What’s the emergency?” She asks, sitting down in the chair across from Blazer’s desk and propping her feet up.
“First of all, get your feet off my desk right now. Second, you’re darn lucky it’s not an emergency, because I called you half an hour ago. Where on earth have you been?” Blonde Blazer presses, annoyed and already developing a headache from dealing with the Z-Team’s problem child.
Invisigal scoffs, but takes her feet off of the heroine’s desk anyways. “If it was important, you should have called me half an hour before you needed me. Now why am I in here instead of helping some fucking loser pull their cat out of a tree?”
“I called you in here because I wanted to congratulate you. On your progress, towards becoming a hero. You’ve been improving greatly, recently, and I’m proud of you.” Blazer replies, exasperated.
“...Progress? To being a hero? What, like I’m not a hero already? So taking a fucking bullet for my gay dispatcher wasn’t selfless enough for you?” Invisigal snaps, face flushed in frustration.
“Visi, you’ve been doing amazing. But there’s been hiccups, and you and I both know it.” Blazer asserts, standing up. “You’re still rude to subscribers, you have a history of dishonesty, you nearly got Chase killed, and--!”
Blonde Blazer stops herself before she can say something worse. Invisigal’s face turns red with fury. “Did you call me in here to congratulate me, or to point out everything I’ve ever done wrong?!” She yells.
“Visi, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to berate you.” Blazer replies apologetically, her heart sinking. The last thing she wanted to do is hurt Visi.
“No, you listen to me, Blonde Boss Bitch. I’ve given everything to the Phoenix program. I did what you asked, I gave up stealing, quit the Red Ring, took a bullet, and you have the audacity to pick me apart because I’m not a perfect little princess like you are?!” Invisigal shouts. She hasn’t ever been this close to Blazer’s face before.
Damn, she’s…really pretty. Her lips look so soft, so infuriatingly perfect, so…oh, what the fuck?
Invisigal lunges in, her lips crashing against her boss’ in a moment of impulse. Blazer’s lips were just as soft as she expected, almost pillowy against her own. Invisigal can feel Blazer’s sharp, surprised inhale, followed shortly by a shaky release of her breath. Visi redoubles her efforts, kissing even harder to elicit a reaction out of SDN’s most corporate dork. Blazer slowly places her hands on Invisigal’s shoulders, contemplating whether or not to shove her subordinate off or let the kiss happen. After Invisigal’s tongue slips into her mouth, Blazer finally ends the kiss, gently but firmly pushing her away. “T-That…um…we don’t…” Blazer stammers.
Invisigal’s face flushes red again, this time not with fury, but in embarrassment. “O-Oh.” She croaks, her breath hitching as she blips out of reality and flees Blazer’s office.
Blonde Blazer is left alone, the silence in her office deafening. She slowly sits back down in her chair, cheeks a rosy pink, staring blankly at the empty spreadsheet on her desktop. She feels good, turned on even. But also…terrified.
