Chapter Text

Yugi could get any girl he wanted. He was pretty with round cheeks, big blue eyes, and a body to die for—or so he'd been told. When he'd been younger, he had been bullied for his delicate figure, but as he got older it had somehow changed to the opposite. Something he used to his advantage.
He'd had many girlfriends since graduating high school and attending university. It had been easy. Nothing too serious, of course. He had his goal set in mind—to create his own game and develop it with Industrial Illusions—and nothing could ever distract him from that.
When girls became too clingy and wanted more from him, he broke it off. He hated seeing their disappointed and sometimes hurt expressions, but it was the only way. He knew himself and he knew what he wanted.
That is until he moved into the dorm.
His previous roommate had unfortunately graduated, leaving a bed open, which was upsetting as Yugi had liked his roommate and didn't want to be shacked up with someone annoying that didn't wash their dishes or hogged the shower too long.
But Yugi was anything if not open minded so when Atem Sennen had arrived, Yugi had put his best foot forward.
That is until Atem decided that Yugi was an easy target for teasing and seemed to enjoy flustering him to the point of anger. It was all some joke to him.
It made things even worse that Atem was basically the full package—smarts, athletic, was model type gorgeous and had perfect white teeth that nearly blinded Yugi each time it was thrown his way. Atem caught attention anywhere he went and could make friends with everyone, wrapping the entire school around his finger in his first week.
He had even caught Yugi's usual hookups attention and Yugi didn't appreciate them drooling over his roommate when he was still literally standing there.
And Atem seemed to think it funny. Each time Yugi approached a girl, Atem appeared out of no where, stealing Yugi's glory and smirking right in his face.
What the hell was his problem?
So, Yugi decided to fight back. If Atem wanted to be like that, then he'd do it back and see how he liked being cock-blocked for a change.
One afternoon, Yugi spotted Atem sitting with some girl at an outside table. She was pretty, had stunning honey skin and sparkling green eyes. He didn't know her personally, but he felt like he'd seen her around campus before.
Yugi threw himself down alongside her, breaking their conversation—whatever it had been, he could care less—and leaned toward her. "Hi. What's your name, beautiful?"
A flustered pink flush crept her face, emerald eyes widening a little at him. "Ah, I—Mana. You're Yugi, right?"
Yugi grinned, completely ignoring Atem who was sitting across from them. "Sure am. I couldn't help but notice you're enduring a conversation with my roommate. Did you know that Atem sleeps with a stuffie every night? What a kid, right?"
"He does?" Mana asked, eyes a little wider as she glanced across the table. Her lips twitched.
"Mhm. It's cute," Yugi said with a wink when she looked back at him. "But anyway. I was getting thirsty and wondered if you'd like to join me."
"Oh," Mana's mouth fell open. "Well, Atem was just—"
"I'm sure I could entertain you better over a latte."
A laugh cut through Yugi's shameless flirting and finally Yugi tore his gaze away from the pretty girl to meet Atem's. He wasn't annoyed or angry like how Yugi became when Atem did it to him. Instead, the infuriating man's eyes sparkled with amusement and he leaned back in his seat, casually observing the situation.
It pissed Yugi the fuck off.
"What?" He couldn't help but snap.
Atem just chuckled again, undeterred by Yugi's animosity. "Oh, nothing. Just think it's cute how hard you're trying."
The back of Yugi's neck grew hot and he gritted his teeth a little. "I don't know what you're talking about. Mana and I were just about to—"
"Oh? I'd love to see you help Mana with her physics homework as her assignment is due tomorrow morning. I'm sure you could do far better than me, hm? By all means, princess."
Yugi's face burned, eyes narrowing. "Don't call me that."
Atem just smirked, unbothered.
"I… I think I'm just gonna go—" Yugi put a hand over Mana's open book when she tried to close it.
"I can do physics," Yugi defended to her, but couldn't remove his eyes from Atem's sparkly eyes and how his perfect eyebrows rose at his words.
"I'm sure a game design major is well adept at physics. Please, do enlighten us. What is the name of the unit of the optical power of a lens?"
Yugi stared at him like he had spoken a foreign language, brain buzzing as he tried to even process such a question. He couldn't let Atem get the better of him though. Not in front of a pretty girl.
"Really," Mana said hesitantly. "I really can just go."
"Hang on," Atem stopped her, hand going to her book, fingers brushing Yugi's. "Let's hear what the physics expert has to say."
Yugi pulled his hand away like he'd been burned. "Why are you like this? You asked an unbelievably hard question. Who on earth would even know that?"
"Someone who can help Mana with her assignment. Obviously," Atem countered, too smug for Yugi's patience.
"You don't even care about helping her. You're just trying to flirt with her like you do every other girl on campus!"
Atem laughed, white teeth gleaming in the sunlight. "Is that what you think? Just because you like to use your looks for attention instead of focusing on your classes, doesn't mean I do the same."
"I do not!" Yugi shouted, uncaring if anyone heard him. "You're always flirting. Every time I am shooting my shot, you show up and steal her from me!"
"I'm helping you, actually. They're so not your type, princess."
"I said stop calling me that! And you don't even know what my type is!"
"Sure, I do," Atem grinned. "And they're definitely not it."
Yugi screwed his face up with fury and shot to his feet. "I'm not gonna deal with this anymore! You're crazy. Just leave me alone! Come on, Mana, I—"
But she was gone. Yugi startled at her disappearance. Not even her books were there anymore.
When he saw the amused look on Atem's face, he glared daggers at him and stomped off without another word.
Stupid, smug, flirty, infuriating ass!

Of course, the world didn't let him escape Atem's presence for too long.
It had felt like as soon as Yugi climbed into his bed that evening, Atem entered seconds after smelling like hot pot. Yugi kept his back to him, glaring at the wall and hoping the man would take the hint not to try and bother him.
He heard a small little chuckle before the sound of a plastic bag was sat on a surface. "When you're done sulking, there's food."
"I don't want it."
"Suit yourself, princess," Atem said, smile in his voice. "I'm gonna go wash up."
Yugi hated how his belly growled at the smell of the delicious grilled meat and oily vegetables. He'd only ate a bowl of instant noodles before climbing into his bed and it wasn't nearly enough.
But he wasn't going to let Atem win. Not when he decided to be all nice to him after what had transpired earlier that day. Atem was always like that, though. Hot and cold.
It was aggravating.
So he lay there, trying to ignore his screaming belly and attempted to fall asleep, that is until Atem came out of their shared bathroom, done with his shower.
"You're so stubborn," Atem sighed. "You're seriously going to make me throw all this food out? What a waste."
Yugi glared from around his bundle of blankets. "I didn't ask you to get me food. Besides, I'm not hungry!"
All of a sudden, his belly decided to give an extremely loud growl. Yugi squeezed his eyes shut as he heard the amused chuckle coming from his roommate.
"If you wanted me to feed you, you should have just said, princess," Atem said and Yugi shot up in his bed, too hungry and annoyed to deal with it any longer.
He avoided Atem's smirking face from his lazy position in his desk chair, hands behind his head, as he watched Yugi grab the bag of food and sit down to eat it. He was extra rough with opening the chopsticks and took an extra big bite of the still warm beef before pointedly looking up at Atem.
"Happy?" He asked around his full mouth. Fuck, but it was delicious.
"Mmm, a little," Atem said, smiling. It wasn't a smirk anymore and it made Yugi uncomfortable. He dropped his eyes as he kept eating, all the while feeling his roommate staring.
What the heck was his problem?
Atem broke the silence first due to Yugi refusing to. He had nothing nice to say to him. "Why do you go after girls so much?"
Yugi snapped his head up at the question, startled by the randomness of it. "Why?"
Atem sighed and stood to approach the table, where he dropped down into the chair next to Yugi.
Yugi quickly averted his eyes.
"You don't seem too serious about them," Atem finally said, propping his chin up on his hand. "Do you even actually sleep with them?"
"What? Of course, I do," Yugi said, offended he'd think otherwise. "Why do you think I get so annoyed with you? I haven't got laid in weeks."
Atem considered him for a moment. "Have you ever tried experimenting with a guy?"
Yugi, who had been drinking down a bottle of water, almost spewed it all over Atem and his smug face. "The fuck? No. Why would I—"
Well, no… that wasn't quite true. When he was a teen he had kissed his best friend, Katsuya. It hadn't been terrible, but they both had ended up with girlfriends so it ended up as nothing.
Atem rose a brow with surprised interest when Yugi cut himself off. "You have?"
Damn, Atem was far too perceptive for his own good.
Yugi cleaned up his mess, busying his hands and attention so he didn't give Atem the satisfaction of being right. "It's none of your business," Yugi snapped and got to his feet. He threw away his trash and planned to go brush his teeth, but before he could make it to the bathroom door, a hand grabbed his arm and he was forcibly thrown up against the wall with unexpected strength.
Yugi gasped, stiffening when his gaze collided with Atem's, far too close for comfort. He could smell the body wash and shampoo up close and personal, clinging to Atem's body. Could feel his body heat radiating toward him. Yugi's heart jumped to his throat, eyes wide as saucers.
Atem's dark gaze flickered over Yugi's startled face with a sudden intense curiosity that had Yugi squirming. Had Atem always been this warm? God, he was like the sun against him.
"What the heck are you doing?" Yugi whispered, unable to pitch his voice any louder. His heart threatened to race out of his chest.
Atem had never looked so serious before and it made Yugi's pulse thunder uncontrollably in his ears. When Atem leaned even closer until their noses nearly touched, his breath ceased to exist.
"What about me?" Atem murmured and Yugi's stomach somersaulted at the low rumble of a question. Atem tilted his head, as if he was going to go in for a kiss. Yugi could smell the minty toothpaste on his breath. His hand that was on Yugi's arm, slid down to his wrist where he gently circled it and lifted it to the wall, pinning it there.
"About you?" Yugi echoed with confusion, trepidation causing him to tremble. Why wasn't he pushing this guy away? He was obviously messing with him again. Wasn't this another tease? Why did it feel different than all the other times?
"What about experimenting with me? I'll make it worth your while," Atem said, breath warm on Yugi's already flushed skin.
Yugi's chest heaved between them with every breath. "What? Are you crazy?"
Atem smirked. "Probably," he murmured with mirth. "What do you say, princess? I'll make you feel good." His thigh slid between Yugi's, until the length of it pressed against places that should not have been reacting. Not to Atem of all people!
Yugi's entire body went into full blown panic mode. No, he couldn't do this. He used his free hand and pushed Atem, making him stumble back and release him. "No! The fuck? I like girls. Girls."
Yugi quickly locked himself in the bathroom, hand going over his racing heart as soon as he was alone. But Atem's smug voice from the other side of the door nearly made him scream.
"Keep telling yourself that, princess."
