Long before the birth of the cursed child, Humans and Dragons lived in two different worlds.
The dragons had their own kingdom, hidden beyond the great mountain ranges and deep forests that separated their lands from the human kingdoms.
Their world was rich in magic, fire, rare herbs, and creatures that humans had only heard about in old stories.
The humans had something the dragons needed.
Food!
The dragon lands could provide many things but they could not produce enough grains, fruits, vegetables, and other crops to feed their growing population throughout the year.
Humans, on the other hand, had vast fields and farmers who had mastered the art of growing food.
So, many centuries ago, the two races made a pact.
Humans would provide food and other supplies to the dragons.
In return, dragons would provide their Fire and Heartstones for the things humans could not create themselves.
Their healers would treat illnesses that human medicine could not cure. Their magic could help protect human settlements from certain dangers, and their knowledge of ancient creatures and herbs helped humans survive difficult winters and deadly diseases.
It was not charity.
It was an exchange.
Both sides needed the other.
For centuries, the arrangement worked.
Human caravans travelled to the borders of the Dragon realm carrying sacks of grain, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other supplies.
Dragon envoys travelled to human territories carrying medicines, magical herbs, enchanted objects, and carefully contained dragonfire.
Over time, the trade became more than an agreement between kingdoms.
Humans and dragons began to know each other.
Some became friends.
Some became trusted companions.
And some even fell in love.
There were Human women who married dragons and moved into the dragon realm.
There were Dragons who chose human partners and built homes among humans.
Children were born from those unions, carrying the blood of both worlds.
Their existence was unusual but it was not considered a threat.
Not yet.
For a long time, the two races accepted that they were different.
Humans had shorter lives and depended heavily on farming, trade, and the protection of their kingdoms.
Dragons lived for centuries. They were stronger, possessed magic, and could survive in conditions that would be dangerous for humans.
Neither race had everything. That was why the pact worked.
Until humans began wanting more.
It started with small demands.
Some human lords began asking for more Dragonfire and Heartstones than their kingdoms actually needed.
They wanted it for their furnaces, their weapons, their fortifications, increased lifetime and health that would never deteriorate and eventually for things that had nothing to do with survival.
The Dragonfire and the Heartstones were scared and contained ancient magic and could be disastrous if fell in wrong hands and so, Dragons refused to provide it more than the Humans needed.
When the Dragons refused to increase their supply, the humans became angry.
Then came the demands for healing.
Human nobles began sending soldiers and servants to dragon healers for every illness, even when human healers could treat it themselves.
The dragons continued helping where they could.
But the humans wanted more.
They wanted stronger magic.
They wanted access to dragon lands.
They wanted rare herbs that grew only in the dragon realm.
Some even began asking for Dragon scales, claiming they could be used to create stronger armor.
The dragons refused.
Their refusal created the first serious disagreements between the two kingdoms.
Still, the old pact remained.
Until a group of human rulers decided that asking was no longer enough.
They believed the dragons had too much.
Too much magic.
Too much land.
Too much power.
And because humans supplied the food, they began believing the Dragons depended on them more than humans depended on the Dragons.
They were wrong.
The dragons could hunt!
They could survive without human supplies if they had to.
Humans could not replace Dragon healing and magic so easily.
But by the time the human rulers understood that, the damage had already begun.
Some human lords secretly began keeping more of the food meant for the Dragon caravans.
Others increased their demands while reducing what they sent in return.
Dragon envoys began returning home insulted. Human traders began disappearing.
Rumors spread on both sides.
Humans were told that dragons were preparing to attack them.
Dragons were told that humans were planning to steal their magic.
Neither side trusted the other anymore.
Then came the final betrayal.
A group of human rulers attempted to enter Dragon territory without permission to take several rare magical resources they believed belonged to them.
The dragons stopped them.
What followed was not a great war.
Not yet. It was a confrontation.
But during that confrontation, blood was spilled.
A dragon died.
Several humans died.
And the old peace finally broke.
The Dragon King closed the borders of his realm.
No human caravan was allowed to enter.
No dragon envoy was allowed to cross into human territory.
The trade ended.
The food stopped coming.
The Dragon healers withdrew.
The humans lost access to Dragonfire, Heartstones and magical medicine.
At first, both sides believed the separation would last only until their anger cooled.
It did not.
The borders remained closed.
Years passed.
Then decades.
Then centuries!
The older generation remembered what had existed before but the younger generation grew up hearing only stories about the other race.
Humans began calling Dragons dangerous creatures.
Dragons began calling humans greedy and untrustworthy.
The old pact became a memory.
And the families caught between the two worlds suffered the most.
Human lovers were separated from their dragon mates. Dragon partners were separated from their human partners.
Children born from both races were forced to choose which world they wanted to belong.
Some families managed to remain together by hiding. Others never saw each other again.
Letters stopped crossing the borders. The roads between the two worlds disappeared beneath forests and snow. The places where humans and dragons once traded became abandoned.
Eventually, even the memory of friendship began to fade.
The two worlds continued living without each other.
Humans returned to their farms, their kingdoms, and their growing armies. And Dragons returned to their mountains, their magic, and their ancient way of life.
Neither side knew that the separation would one day become the foundation of something far worse.
Because the humans had not truly forgotten the dragons. They had only learned to fear them.
And the dragons had not truly forgotten the humans. They had only learned not to trust them.
Neither world knew that one day, a child would be born carrying the blood for both.
A child who would bring the forgotten prophecy back to life.
A child who would once again connect the two worlds.
And a child whose existence would make Humans and Dragons remember exactly why they had separated in the first place.
But by then, it would already be too late.
