Chapter Text
It was evening when Ghislaine and I arrived in the Fortified City of Roa. Buena Village and the City of Roa are a day’s coach ride apart, a journey of six to seven hours—just the right distance, neither too near nor too far. Roa is a lively city, one of the largest in the Fittoa Region.
The citadel had sturdy walls, seven to eight meters tall, that wrapped around the city. Horse-drawn carriages came and went through the gigantic gate. As our coach passed through, I saw lines of merchant stalls.
The first thing that greeted me inside the city was a waiting area for the stagecoach. A crowd of people bustled to and fro: merchants, townspeople, adventurers clad in armor.
I had taken a stagecoach ride to the city a couple of times before. To sell my uncolored figurines to a shopkeeper stationed within the market near the city entrance. He sold dolls and other handcrafted goods.
At least a year ago we agreed that I would sell my figurines only to him until I became ten years old. In exchange, he would have to pay me a reasonable price, specifically one gold Asura coin for a figurine from me.
I needed the money to purchase important materials to create my automaton named Willow designated as automaton XD-01 to replace Sylphiette's role as Silent Fitts.
Rudeus POV, contingency plan for the mana disaster…
1. I’ll practice with my magic spells when I’m one and a half years old. This will grant me a slightly larger mana pool compared to my last life.
2. So solidifying a strong and loving family bond with Zenith, Paul, and Lilia. By socializing with them often and acting like an innocent, mature, and smart child until I’m sent to the city of Roa to tutor Eris and Ghislaine.
3. When I become three years old I'll reunite with Sylphy and teach her magic early. To give her a larger mana pool compared to her previous life.
4. When Roxy finally arrives and becomes my magic tutor. I won’t show off all my impressive magic skills and creativity in front of her. So she won’t feel jealousy towards me.
5. Once I’m four years old I’ll create a large basement right adjacent to the house at night.
So I can work discreetly without anyone noticing my activities. Then I’ll create a thin rectangle slab about the same size as the base of the house.
This would be what I carve the magic circle into using earth magic. I plan on working on the magic circle little by little over the next couple of years.
6. When Lilia tells the whole family that she’s pregnant with Paul’s child. I’ll play devil's advocate, just like in my past life, and guilt-trip Zenith into allowing her to stay. Also when Lilia feels obligated to repay her debt to me.
I’ll tell her that I only accept her service as a maid when I start my own family. But I kindly and seriously ask her to promise me.
That she won't raise her child to be a servant as well. I want Aisha to live her own life with a loving and caring mother. And someday find her own happiness, and not put the priorities of others and myself before her own ambitions.
7. Once I’m six to seven years old I’ll purchase a ride on a stagecoach to take me to the city of Roa and sell uncolored figurines of Perugius Dola, Sylvaril, Perugius’s eleven summon spirits, Roxy, Sylphy, Zenith, Lilia, Laws, Rose, Paul, and Paul’s horse Caravaggio, a Red Dragon, a Blue Dragon, an Earth Dragon, a Snow Dragon, a medieval ship, a cat, a dog, a wolf, an owl, a rabbit, a bunny, a bear and a snake.
So I can buy the necessary materials I need to create an automaton and I’ll name it Willow. It will have the same designs as the fully functional moving doll Fourty the automaton from my previous life in the dark timeline.
Fourty the Automaton is all built to look just like Ginger York but with long hair.
But the Automaton named Willow that I’ll create; will look exactly like Ginger York but with long white hair and blue eye pupils and it will be officially designated as Automaton XD-01. I named the automaton Willow, since the name Forty doesn't sound like a realistic name.
I will create the automaton Willow to protect Ariel Anemoi Asura and Derrick Redbat from the Terminate Boar that will appear in the White Lily Garden due to the mana disaster. Willow will take Sylphy’s role as Silent Fitts.
8. Before I depart for the city of Roa. I’ll give Sylphy a few sheets of paper explaining how to turn her hair white.
Through the use of mana exhaustion, a stressful event that forces an individual to use an immense amount of mana in a short period, causing their hair pigment to be bleached out.
This can temporarily or permanently change their original hair color. In exchange, I’ll ask Sylphy to teach Aisha and Norn how to use magic and silent spell-casting while I’m tutoring Eris and Ghislaine in the City of Roa.
9. When I first met Eris. I’ll win her approval by using magic to launch a firework explosion into the sky to impress her and allow me to teach her reading, writing, math, and some basic magic.
While I’m staying in the city of Roa. I’ll do my best to make some extra money by handcrafting and selling uncolored figurines of Eris, Roxy, Sylphiette, Paul, Zenith, Lilia, Ghislaine, Perugius Dola, Sylvaril, Kaunis Freean Asura, The First North God, The First Sword God, The First Water God, Twin Emperor Migus, Feroze Star, Urupen, Gumis, a medieval ship, a Red Dragon, Paul’s horse Caravaggio, the Chaos Breaker, and Perugius’s eleven ancient spirits.
Afterwards, I’ll use some of the money to buy a large amount of powerful sleeping powder, seven aphrodisiacs for backup expenses and for my own personal indulgences. Then right around Sylphy’s 10th birthday, I’ll buy a magic ring that helps the wearer to manipulate the wind and protect the ring bearer from wind-based attacks.
I’ll also buy her a magical item in the city of Roa that lets the two wearers know each other's location within a limit of 100 meters.
10. I’ll win Eris’s complete affection by acting like a mature gentleman towards her. Unlike my previous life when I was acting silly and a pervert during our youth. Along with giving her three gifts on her tenth birthday.
I’ll give Eris a colored figurine of herself, a figurine of myself, a magic wand, and finally a Magic Ring called the Inferno Ring - I heard it’s a ring that allows the wearer to sometimes heat-blade weapons with a blazing fire; enough to burn enemies and ignite a flame on their foe.
Whenever the sword starts to glow red during a battle. It also makes the wearer fireproof. By giving Eris these specific gifts and planning for her scheduled studies in the city of Roa perfectly. I’ll win Eris’s admiration and fondness. So she'll be less aggressive towards me in the future.
11. At nighttime during my tenth birthday when everyone is fast asleep, I’ll use a strong sleep powder on Sylphy’s family and my family.
To make sure they’re in a deep sleep when I use teleportation magic to take them to the city of Sharia and rent two separate rooms for them.
12. The next morning I’ll covertly set in motion a magic scroll to remotely activate a teleportation circle in Philip and Hilda’s room. If everything goes as planned, they will both be sent to the inn in the city of Sharia, in the third room I had rented the night before.
But there is no guarantee that Philip and Hilda were in their bedroom when the mana disaster struck, but at least they have a slight chance to survive if good fortune is on my side.
I couldn’t use that strong sleeping powder and teleportation magic to transfer Hilda and Philip to the city of Sharia. Like he did for Sylphy’s family.
Because there would be bodyguards stationed outside Philip and Hilda’s bedroom.
Thus preventing me from entry. And even if I knocked out the guards and used the same plan I did for Sylphy’s family and my family.
The city of Roa and Sauros would be on high alert looking for Philip and Hilda. They suddenly disappeared without telling anyone.
This would cause Ghislaine to search high and low around the city for them and cancel my day to show off my new magic staff. This will change the positions where Eris, Ghislaine, and I will be teleported when the mana disaster happens.
13. Then before the teleportation disaster occurs I’ll bring my large backpack that has a bag full of smoked salted jerky, a bag of cashews, a sewing kit, three water flasks, some of my spare clothes, a kitchen knife, the sword Paul gave me, a sack filled with teleportation scrolls, magic paint, seven aphrodisiacs bottles and a Demon God Tongue dictionary that Master Roxy handcrafted for me.
Finally, I’ll put my wallet of money inside my underwear as always. I’ll also take my large marble lockbox that contains my holy relic and my three colored detachable figurines of Roxy, Sylphiette and Eris.
14. Lastly, I'll think of my next contingency plan in Migurd Village. No matter what happens in this Second Rebirth…I will change the future and save all of them from a terrible fate.
Meanwhile, the coach continues to push forward as I quietly enjoy the scenery alongside Ghislaine. When we passed one street corner. There were lines of stores aimed at adventurers, a weapon-smithy and an armor smithy, and farther within, lines of shops for the townspeople.
Residential homes were nestled deep in the alleyways. The deeper we entered the city inward, the bigger the houses became and the more luxurious the goods shops offered. The closer you lived to the center, the richer you were.
Eventually we reached the Boreas Greyrat manor; it's a gigantic building nestled right in the middle of the city. “This is the liege lord’s manor,” Ghislaine said.
Welp, I guess it's time to maintain my appearance as an innocent child. Who’s talented in silent spellcasting in front of Ghislaine and the rest of Boreas Greyrat's family.
“Wow, it looks more like a castle than a manor.”
“Well, this is a fortified city after all.”
Roa was an ancient city with a noble past. Four hundred years ago it was the last bastion of defense in the war against the demon race. That was why there was a castle in the city’s center.
That said, despite its mighty origin story, the nobles of the imperial capital currently saw Roa as nothing more than a crude backwater full of adventurers.
“The fact that we came here must mean that the Young Mistress I’m about to teach is of high social status.”
Ghislaine shook her head. “Not quite.”
“Mmm, I guess I’ll just wait. When I see the Lord and the rest of the family. So they can explain all the details further.”
“Good idea, kid. I’m sure the Mayor of Roa would much prefer explaining everything to you compared to me.”
When the carriage came to a stop we entered the manor, Thomas the butler, led us to the reception room. We were pointed to two sofas lined up together.
“Please take a seat there.” Thomas requested.
I quickly sat on the sofa while Ghislaine silently drew away and stood watch in the corner of the room to survey the entire room. This was pretty nostalgic😊 seeing the Boreas Manor in its former glory before the mana disaster happened.
“The Young Master should be returning shortly. Please wait here until he does.” Thomas said and poured some expensive tea into a fancy cup. Then he retreated and stood by the entrance to the room.
“Thank you,” I replied and drank the delicious tea. It wasn’t half-bad, just like I remembered.
“Where is he?!”
A voice boomed from outside the room, accompanied by angry, thunderous footsteps. Yup, without a shadow of a doubt, that was Lord Sauros boisterous voice alright.
“In here?!”
He burst open the door violently, he looked the same as I remembered. Buff, muscular, and in good shape despite being around his fifties.
I instantly put the cup down, stood, and bowed to him just like in the previous timeline. “It’s nice to meet you, sir. My name is Rudeus Greyrat.”
His nostrils flared. “Hmph, you don’t even know how to introduce yourself!”
“Master, Lord Rudeus has never been outside Buena Village. He is still young, I am sure he has not yet had the time to learn proper manners. Surely you can overlook a bit of his...”
“And you, shut up!”
That rebuke silenced Thomas immediately. He probably went through this everyday with Sauros and Eris. No wonder he betrayed the family and try to earn a tidy profit while stabbing them in the back. Then again, if he hated his job so much, he could’ve looked for a better one in my opinion🤔.
“Hmph. So I guess Paul didn’t even see fit to teach his own son manners!”
“I’ve been told my father detests formality, which is why he left his father’s house. That's why he didn’t bother to teach me any of it.”
“Already with the excuses! You’re just like him!”
“Did my father really make that many excuses?”
“Yes! An excuse every time he opened his mouth. If he wet the bed, an excuse! If he got into a fight, an excuse! If he played hooky, an excuse!” He was really going off about this.
“Even you! If you wanted to learn manners, you could have done it! The only reason you didn’t is that you didn’t put any effort in!”
He’s technically right. The past version of me was so preoccupied with magic and swordplay that I hadn’t tried learning anything else.
Also before I met Hitogami I was confident, narrow-minded, and a pervert with no restraints.
Furthermore, I was unaware of Roxy and Eris harboring feelings of jealousy towards my intelligence and remarkable talent with silent spellcasting. But now I have another second chance to save my family, friends, and loved ones. While having them see me in a better light.
Ever since the teleportation incident, Hitogami caused Roxy, Sylphy, and everyone else I care about to die a cruel death. I realized that I gave a bad first impression in front of Lilia, Zenith, Paul, Roxy, Eris, and Norn.
But now I have a golden opportunity for them to love, respect, and admire me fully without them seeing my minor flaws and disgusting perverted tendencies.
After I finished monologuing within my inner thoughts. I gave Sauros the same response as last time. Where I conceded to my mistake.
“You’re right. It’s my own failing that I lack the proper manners. I apologize for that.”
As I lowered my head, he stomped his foot hard on the floor and made it crack. “However! I will acknowledge that you made a valiant effort instead of being defensive about your lack of education on etiquette! I will permit you to stay here!”
After that Lord Sauros turned around and strode out of the room, his shoulders stiff and firm.
“He is the liege lord of the Fittoa Region, Sauros Boreas Greyrat. He is also Master Paul’s uncle,” Thomas said.
“That would make him my great-uncle then?”
“Correct.”
“What’s going on, Thomas? You left the door wide open.” Lord Philip said as he entered the doorway looking quite confused. “It seems like Father is in a cheery mood. Did something happen?”
Thomas said, “This is the Young Master. Pardon me. Just a moment ago, the Master met with Lord Rudeus. It seems he was pleased by him.”
“Ah-ha. If he’s the kind of person my father likes...Perhaps I’ve chosen incorrectly?” He took a seat on the sofa across from me.
Oh, shit. I don’t wanna wait around for him to get the wrong impression about me. I'd better introduce myself quickly just like last time.
“A pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Rudeus Greyrat.” Just as I did a moment ago, I bowed deeply and lowered my head.
“Ah yes, and I am Philip Boreas Greyrat. By the way, nobles greet each other by putting their right hand on their chest and bowing their head slightly. You must have angered my father with your incorrect approach, yes?”
“Like this?” I followed his example and bowed my head slightly. “Yes, that’s right. Although your attempt a moment ago wasn’t bad. It was still polite. I’m sure if a worker greeted my father like that, he would be pleased. Now please, sit.”
Then he sat back on the sofa with his attention focused on me. I followed his example and took my seat. At long last, my first job interview as Rudeus Greyrat reborn for a second time, has finally begun.
“How much have you heard?”
“My father informed me that my new job requires me to spend five years teaching a Young Mistress. After I finished the task, I would be given enough money to cover the tuition costs for two people to attend the Ranoa Magic Academy.”
“Is that all?”
“Yes Sir.”
“I see.” He put his hand on his chin and gazed at the table as if lost in thought.
“Do you like girls?”
“Not as much as my father.”
“Oh really? Then you pass.”
“Right now, the only people my daughter likes are Ms.Edna, her etiquette tutor, and Ghislaine, her sword trainer. I have already dismissed more than five magic tutors. Among those was a man who taught in the imperial city.” I understood that he was implying that just because someone taught in the city of Ars didn’t mean they were any good at teaching.
Mmm, I do recall Master Roxy mentioning that she tried to apply as Eris’s magic tutor but Philip rejected her. Which made her conclude that Philip turned her down because she was of the demon race. But after hearing what happened to her. I concluded that Philip denied her because Roxy said and I quote. “No matter how hard you teach, there is no point to it if the student refuses to learn. I believe it was best for both of us.”
But that’s exactly what the job required. Because Philip wanted to know whether Roxy could manage to teach the Mad Dog Eris and she called it a pointless effort due to her thinking that someone can't instruct a student who was unwilling to learn.
In the past, she was too conventional and rigid with an elitist mindset because of her teaching method. I would go so far as to say that she was a bad teacher because she couldn’t handle a disobedient student.
The only reason why she managed to teach me so well was that I was an easy student who was already talented with magic and very educated at a young age.
However, when I applied for the job. I showed and proved to Philip that I was a lot more humble and cautious. Willing to meet her first before making any assumptions.
When I previously answered his question with, “not as much as my father.” It reassured him that I could read between the lines much better than your average child and adult.
Lastly, my refusal to give up after Eris kicked my ass and how I was planning on a flexible way to make her want to learn; genuinely impressed Philip.
I guess nepotism may have given me a chance to change Eris’s perspective on learning how to read, write, and do math. But my intelligence, tenacity, and skill are what landed me the job.
Before we entered the room I responded to Philip once more. “I swear, Lord Philip, I’ll do my utmost best to sway your daughter to study.”

“I wish you good luck in your endeavor Rudeus Greyrat. Trust me you're gonna need it once you meet her face-to-face, she’s very willful.” Lord Philip replied and offered his own words of good fortune.
I’m not afraid because I got nerves of steel, especially when I know Eris’s every move, inside and out. She won’t stand a chance against me; even the Dragon King himself can verify that.
Afterwards, Philip knocked on the door and then called out to Eris.
“Eris, I’ve brought a new tutor for you to meet.” He said as he opened the door.
I looked through the door and smiled after seeing Eris’s beautiful crimson red hair flowing in the air as she turned around to face me with an intense glare that could send most men running away with pure fear. She was like a breathtaking scarlet ruby; too hot and ferocious—for the average man to dare touch, unless he had a death wish or was seriously a masochist and enjoyed being a human punching bag for a red-haired demon girl😅.
I performed the Asura noble greeting that Philip showed me. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Rudeus Greyrat.”
“Hmph!” She took one good look at me and her nostrils flared out a puff of air, just like her grandfather’s. She had her arms crossed firmly over her chest as she glared down at me and shouted out loud. “What’s this!? He's younger than I am! What's a squirt like him supposed to teach me? Stop joking around, father!”

“You’re right I am young, but if you just give me a chance I can show you…”
“Shut up, I don’t wanna see anything from a little baby like you!” She shouted violently. “Get out of my sight!” Her voice was so loud that it almost made my ears ring if I didn’t keep a safe distance away from her.
“I’m sorry but I can’t leave my lady, I’ve traveled a long way to get here. So could you please find it in your heart to spare just a moment of your time to watch my short demonstration outside to see how great magic truly is.” I asked politely.
The moment I said that, Eris’s blazing red hair started to stand straight up, like a demonic aura of anger surrounding her entire body. Even as a child, she was still a terrifying force to be reckoned with. There is no denying that.
“Hmph,” She snorted. “You are pretty brave to disobey me like that pip-squeak. Just who do you think I am?!”
I answered her with a cheerful smile on my face. To display that I’m comfortable around her. “You’re my second cousin.”
“Second…? What the hell does that mean?”
“It means that our fathers are cousins, which makes us family."
Eris stared at me for a brief moment and didn’t say anything. Then her eyebrow twitched.
“…So what?” She retorted.
I blinked and then responded. “Huh?”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Since we are related, you could at least give me a chance to prove myself.”
“I don’t care if we’re family or not,” she said bluntly. “You’re still younger than me and there's no way some snot-nosed brat is gonna boss me around like a servant.”
“That was never my intention, miss. I just don’t think my age has anything to do with me being unable to teach you,” I said while firmly holding my ground.
“Oh yeah?! You think you’re better than me little punk?!” She shouted angrily and glared viciously. It was pretty obvious. She was growing, very irritated and annoyed by this back-and-forth conversation.
“What I’m saying, miss, is that there are things I can do that you can’t.”
The instant I said that she lifted her hand and slapped me on the face. I saw that coming a mile away, I let her hit me so she could release all that pent-up frustration because I was saying a bunch of counterarguments and disobeying her direct orders.
“Huh...?” I pretended to react abruptly when she struck me across my right cheek. Then I asked her with a confused tone in my voice. “Why did you hit me?”
“Because you're acting so full of yourself even though you’re younger than me!”
“Is that so? Well, you're wrong about me miss.” I retorted back despite the painful hot stinging sensation on my cheek. “Watch as I make this wound disappear instantly before your very eyes.”
“Hmph, I like to see you try, foolish little boy,” Eris said, standing by for a short while, just to see me fail spectacularly.
I raised my hand to my cheek and casted beginner rank healing magic spell. I knew for an instant that Eris would suddenly attack again while saying the spell out loud. So I used Chanting Omission to cast magic by shortening the incantation.
“Let this divine power be as satisfying nourishment—Healing!” After I chanted the spell, a dim green light removed the wound on my cheek in a flash as if nothing had happened.
Eris’s eyes widened.
For the first time since I had entered the room, she looked genuinely surprised.
“🫤Huh…?”
She leaned forward and stared at my cheek.
The red mark was gone.
Not fading.
Not healing slowly.
Gone.
She reached out and poked my cheek with one finger. Then responded with her mouth wide open with astonishment. “…You made it disappear, like it was never there.”
“Of course it did.”
“How?”
“Uh, using healing magic.”
“I know that, I’m not stupid!” She shouted and pulled her finger back.
“I mean, how did you make it disappear so quickly?!” She asked.
“Just a little trick I learned over the years. I can teach you. If you allow me to be your full-fledged magic tutor.” I offered generously with a bright smile on my face.
“Hmph, no way you cocky little boy. You think a pitifully fast healing spell like that is gonna earn my approval!” Eris replied harshly and continued. “I like to see you heal yourself when I pulverize you!”
As she walked up to punch me. I leaned back at the last moment to evade her attack. She put a lot of force into her “Boreas Punch,” so when she unexpectedly missed, her momentum carried forward and she fell on the wooden floor while her long skirt flipped over her head.
Exposing the rear-end of her white pantyhose hanging in the air for all to see. The mere sight was pretty ecchi and funny. It basically looked like she was doing a jack-o pose with her butt a few spaces in front of me.
Obviously I didn’t laugh due to Philip, Ghislaine, and the beast-folk maid standing right there. Also it would be very rude and make her more upset on top of being embarrassed in front of everyone.
For example, I would’ve said a sly teasing remark like this… “😏Heh, you got a cute patootie for a clumsy and vicious young lady. Is all that violent energy going to your big ass instead.”
Afterwards, she got up on her own two feet, growled at me, and began gritting her teeth with an intimidating stare that would cause any timid person to wet their pants right now.
“You're gonna regret embarrassing me like that scum😡!” She shouted viciously like a dangerous animal held bent on revenge.
I kept on dodging her punches and kicks with perfect precision. Since I already knew her fight style with pure instinct alone.
“Damnit! Quit dodging and hold still so I can kick your ass.”
Next, I used the spell Wind Blast to release a gust of strong wind at Eris to blow her a couple of feet away from me and so I could escape unharmed. Then I quickly exited the room and sealed the door shut with earth magic.
I could hear Eris shouting and pounding at the door as I looked up sheepishly at Philip and Ghislaine.
"I hope you don't intend to keep my daughter locked up in her bedroom forever. Because I'm going to have to ask you to unseal that door," Philip demanded.
"I'm sorry about that, Lord Philip. She left me with no other choice, since I couldn’t convince her with my fast-acting healing magic spell.”
"That’s understandable. I did told you my daughter was very willful", Philip said. While I moved further away from the entrance and finally disintegrated the earth seal I had placed on her door.
Yeah no shit man, Eris is the pure definition of a raging hothead and a rabid beast that will bite your head off if you look at her funny.
Immediately after unsealing the door, it burst open and Eris started charging at me. Then I instantly leaped backwards over the wooden railing down to the courtyard below and used wind magic to slow my descent until I landed on my feet safe and sound.
Eris ran up to the guard railing and looked down at me with wrath and fury. She looked like she wanted to jump down, but she hesitate, since she was up on the third floor.
Then I lifted my magic wand up skyward and shot a fireball high up into the air. Once it reached about 100 feet above the roof of the manor, I had it explode into a ball full of beautiful and colorful fireworks that sparkled in the blue sky.
I saw Eris stare up at it with her mouth wide open, completely awestruck. Before looking back down at me and clicking her tongue with an annoyed, facial expression.
Eventually, Ghislaine appeared behind her and gently patted Eris’s head and responded, "He may look like a normal kid at first glance Eris, but Rudeus is an incredible magician. Today I witnessed him defeat a retired S-Class adventurer single-handedly without a scratch on him.”
Eris's eyes lit up astonishingly after hearing that comment. Then she looked back down at me.
"Mmm, very well then, I permit you to teach me magic, but only if you teach me that healing and fire magic spells okay!" She said cheerfully and turned around to walk back into her bedroom.

Eventually, I conjured an earth pillar to lift myself back up to Philip and Ghislaine. Then quickly dispersed it afterward. Philip was smiling and clapping his hands softly to give me a round of applause. "Truly magnificent," he said. "It appears your plan was a success Rudeus. Follow me back downstairs and we'll formalize your contract immediately.”
Finally, I was officially hired as Eris and Ghislaine's magic tutor and afforded two silver pieces a month for my wage. Also once I completed five years of service, I would have enough money to enroll myself and Sylphiette in a fully paid tuition to the Ranoa University of Magic.
I already know that the second part of that contract won't come to fruition due to the mana disaster happening in the Fittoa Region. But I’m sure Phillip and Hilda will somehow survive the teleportation incident.
They’ll definitely compensate me with a large amount of money in exchange for my services and returning their precious daughter back home safe and sound.
