Work Text:

Wifies and Hummer spend countless hours gathering research about the leviathan, they've theorized many things about Levi's sightings and where to look.

And still, they end up with no answers and more questions. Hummer's patience is running thin, and Wifies doesn't know what else to do.

“Bah! We've been up for hours, I think we deserve to take a break. Perhaps even a nap, while we're at it.” Hummer says, shaking his head in exhaustion.

Wifies silently agrees with him, he does feel a bit tired. But still determined to find out the truth, though the thought of a break would be nice.

“Okay,” he slumped against the wall near Hummer. “Let's just take a nap, and then get back to finding the leviathan, alright?”

Hummer, funnily enough, hummed.

Wifies snorted in response to Hummer's….humming.

“What's so funny?” He asks, looking at Wifies with amusement. The dog hybrid perked up, “ah…it’s nothing…”

“Right…” Hummer did not believe him.

Silence fills the room, and only then can they hear the waves outside.

Maybe, being on this ship with Hummer…wasn't so bad. And maybe, just maybe…they'll find the leviathan, together.

Wifies closes his eyes, and lets himself fall safely into the arms of sleep.

He wakes up to the slight shake of the ship, Wifies pulls himself up right and stares out the small window.

He's confused, did a mob hit the ship by accident? Or could it be something else?

He leaves the room to check it out, the deck floors creak with every step that he takes.

Wifies' tail wags with anticipation, he looks out into the vast sea, but is met with no clear signs of any other living beings.

Disappointment shreds into his very being, maybe he was hallucinating whatever hit the ship?

Which, to be fair, wouldn't be wrong? He's probably had only an hour of sleep, or so he thinks. Wifies isn't quite sure, but he knows that he shouldn't be able to hallucinate something like that.

Sighing, he figured that he should head back and get some more sleep.

“Wifies?” He hears Hummer's voice, and he turns around. “What's wrong? Did you manage to find something?”

Wifies shakes his head, “no..I don't think so.” At least, goes unsaid.

“Ah, alright.” If you say so, was definitely implied there.

Wifies clears his throat, before realizing that he may need to drink some water.

“Uh…I'm…I'm just gonna get myself something to drink.”

Hummer…hummed in acknowledgment.

And if he noticed that Wifies was smiling, he didn't mention anything about it.

Another day had been spent on failed attempts to find the leviathan, Wifies is at a loss on what they could do now.

He certainly does want to find the leviathan and put an end to the investigation, but…with no clear signs of him? It started to feel hopeless.

Wifies thinks he should call it quits, say his goodbyes to Hummer and head on to the next search of something new.

But just as he was about to do that, he gets reminded of Hummer's obvious obsession with the leviathan.

“I think that there’s still hope to find Levi, we have to keep looking for him…we can't just stop now.” He murmured with an intensity that made Wifies flinch.

It hurt just to see Hummer like this, fixated on something that may not even be real.

“Look, Hummer…” Wifies starts, but never is able to finish before Hummer interrupts him.

“No, you don't get it. You wanted to solve this, right? So you can't just give up on Levi, you can't just give up on us.” His screen brightens, and it lights up brighter than the stars.

It's almost blinding, and Wifies doesn't want to look away.

“...I…I won't.” He admits, as he continues to stare at Hummer's face. “For all I know, the leviathan might not be real…but.. I'd still want to find that out..for myself, but for us too.”

He wouldn't have been able to get this far without Hummer, and he's glad for it. For him.

“And I don't want our hours of research to be all for nothing.”

Hummer steps forward, taking Wifies hands in his.

“Then don't let it become nothing.” He says, and that's where Wifies has this urge to kiss him.

Though, he's not sure how to kiss him..since he had a TV for a head.

“....can I kiss you?”

What?

“What?”

Hummer tightens his hold on Wifies hands.

“Can I kiss you?” He repeats, more firmly this time.

Wifies brain, once again, short circuits. And he doesn't even fight the words before saying his answer.

“Yes.” Yes, just kiss me senseless, pleas—

And Hummer presses his..screen against Wifies’ lips, and wow…it felt great.

It felt so freeing, and slowly enough, Wifies loses himself in the intensity of the kiss. His head is filled with static, and he feels incredibly warm inside.

The fuzzy buzz rings deep in his veins, feeling Hummer's hands roam around his waist, under his jacket, his back, everywhere.

His touch burns into Wifies’ skin, and it felt like a brand to show that he was Hummer's.

They pull away, and Hummer says nothing. Neither does Wifies, he was still catching his breath after all. This was perfection.

Wifies was perfect.

“You're everything…you mean so much.” Hummer pulled him closer, hugging him tightly. “You may not understand it now, but you’ll figure it out soon.”

“What are you talking about?” Wifies asks, as his brain attempts to recover from the kiss they shared. “Hummer? What do you mean by that?”

Hummer stays silent, until he doesn't.

“I'm sorry.”

Wifies is so confused, why was Hummer apologizing? And to him? Why, why, why, wh—

He doesn't get to even question why Hummer was acting so weird, and before he passes out.

Wifies sits up right, almost immediately without thinking. He's awake now, but he feels wrong, wrong, wrong, wron—

“Wifies.” He hears Hummer's voice, but he can't pay attention, his skin crawls with a sensation that he wants gone.

He aches for it to end and so he whispers quietly, “make it stop.”

Hummer's arms wrap around him, and he finally starts to feel safe. The ringing in his ears stops, and he takes his time to look at Hummer.

“...what did you mean by that?”

Hummer doesn't answer for a second, Wifies starts to rethink his question before his..friend? Begins to explain everything to him.

Everything that leaves Hummer's mouth, makes Wifies' jaw drop.

“So you mean to say that….it was you? This whole time, it was you all along?”

Hummer nodded, ashamed.

Wifies stared at him for a moment, before breaking into a soft smile.

“Well…at least I found you.”

Hummer perked up.

“I'm glad that you did, I really am.”
