Work Text:
The proposal is Jeongin’s idea, as much as Seungmin hates to admit it. They’re at work when he suggests it. “You know Taylor Swift has a concert coming up in Seoul, why don’t you propose to her then?” Their entire friend group had been trying to come up with proposal ideas for the last few months because Seungmin wanted to make it memorable.
Jisung suggested locking Hyunjin in a room and having Seungmin save her, and have Jisung appear behind Seungmin with a banner that said marry me. Jisung’s suggestion was not even considered. Jisung was insane for even thinking Seungmin would agree to that. Jisung was insane for thinking Hyunjin’s brother would agree to that.
Anyways. Seungmin tilts her head. “It’s a possibility. It would make her really happy, and it would be the memorable proposal that I’ve been wanting for so long.” Jeongin nods along at her words with a smug grin on his face.
One of these days, Jeongin is going to regret pissing her off, and he’s going to know it when he gets hit in the face. But it’s okay, it’s whatever, because at least he gave her an idea.
”I’m sure we can even pull together enough money to get tickets for all of us.” Jeongin says happily, like he doesn’t know what’s coming for him. Seungmin’s been saving up money here and there for whatever she decides to do for the proposal, so she’s sure she has enough money to splurge on two very expensive tickets, but Jeongin and Felix on the other hand are kind of broke.
It’s okay. Chan is rich, and they should all be there for the day Seungmin gets on one knee. “Sure, Innie. Do you know how much those tickets are?”
Jeongin brushes a strand of hair behind his ear awkwardly. “No.” Seungmin rolls her eyes. Why would he?
“Well, you should probably ask Chan Oppa to buy you a ticket. We can tell the group chat later.” Jeongin doesn’t get to say another word before their first customer of the day walks in.
They’re going to be in for a treat.
The first time Seungmin and Hyunjin saw each other, they were young. It was the first day of seventh grade, and Hyunjin was starting at a new school. Her brother, Minho, had become good friends with Seungmin’s own brother during basketball tryouts. Neither of them made it onto the team because they were horrible at sports, but Seungmin never told her brother that to his face.
Upon hearing about how nervous Hyunjin was to start school, Chan decided to show Seungmin a picture of the girl and tell Seungmin to go seek her out and make sure she could find her way around school. Seungmin was not there evil, so she did what she was asked to do.
Seungmin closes her eyes from where she’s making a drink. She can make these kind of things with her eyes closed, that’s how used to it she has become. Hyunjin was beautiful even when she was younger.
Hyunjin may or may not have been her lesbian awakening. That’s not important, and no one knows. She would never live it down. Seungmin made her way through the crowded hallways and tapped Hyunjin on the shoulder. “Hi, I’m Seungmin. My brother knows your brother and he told me to come find you.”
Hyunjin’s face had turned red at the time, and she brought a hand up to cover her cheeks. You didn’t hear this from Seungmin, but she always thought that Hyunjin had looked adorable. “Really? I’m Hyunjin, but I think you know that?”
How awkward and shy Hyunjin was, was adorable. Seungmin just wanted to wrap her up in bubble wrap and never let anyone hurt her ever again. “I do know that.” Seungmin giggled. “Come on, let me see your schedule.”
It turned out they had all of their classes together, and their friendship grew from that. Little did they know that Minho telling Chan about his little sister being scared would cause such a beautiful relationship. They got together in ninth grade after a mental breakdown Hyunjin had about being scared Seungmin would want nothing to do with her if she knew Hyunjin had a crush on her.
Even at twenty one, they were still together. There would never be anyone else for Seungmin, and she knew it would always be the same for Hyunjin.
Hyunjin would always be the one she picked.

Seungmin knows Minho is rolling his eyes wherever he is, and Seungmin does not care.
Listen, this may be one of the worst ideas Seungmin has ever had. She has to pick from her savings because she was out a hundred from what the tickets cost. Even she didn’t think they were going to be that much. Maybe a little over than what she had saved, but not over to the extent that they were.
Oh well. It’s okay because it’s for Hyunjin, and Hyunjin deserves the world. The others have long been informed to take off for the event, and all she has to do is tell Hyunjin.
She is not ready to tell Hyunjin. Hyunjin is going to start screaming and then stay awake all night, and Seungmin has an early shift tomorrow.
At least it will make Hyunjin happy.
Hyunjin comes home at five from a class. She never really comes home this late, but she says she got caught up in something and she wasn’t able to get out of it. It just meant Seungmin had more time to sit at home and think.
The front door slams closed and Seungmin flinches from her spot on the couch. “Hello to you too?”
Hyunjin groans, throws her backpack down onto the couch and then flops down next to Seungmin. “I never want to go back to school again.”
There it is. The dramatics that Seungmin knows and loves. “Why, honey?” She wraps an arm around her girlfriend and lets Hyunjin place her head on Seungmin’s chest. Seungmin has never been a cuddly person, but Hyunjin likes her affection, and Seungmin would do whatever to make her girlfriend happy.
A soft whine escapes from Hyunjin. It must be good that Seungmin plans on telling her about the tickets tonight, then, if she seems this aggravated by whatever happened.
“So first I’m at my second lecture of the day and I know I need to go to the bathroom. I excuse myself and while I’m in there, changing my pad as you do, I hear a ‘can I have some chips too?’ And before I even get a moment to explain what it was, someone is shoving their fucking head under my stall. She screamed, and she ran out without going to the bathroom because she had come in there a second after I locked my stall.” Okay.
Okay. Definitely not the weirdest story Hyunjin has ever shared with Seungmin, but she can understand the frustration her girlfriend has because that’s fucked up to do to anyone. Even if it had been chips, it is better to just mind your own business in a bathroom. Seungmin can’t get what other people don’t understand about that.
But okay, whatever. “If that wasn’t fucking bad enough, I was talking to Jisung. As you do. I had his hand in mind because he was really upset and nervous about a project.” Everyone knew that you held Jisung’s hand if he was scared. It was just common knowledge. Seungmin always said Jisung’s hands were really sweaty, but Hyunjin never had a complaint. “Jisung trips down the stairs and he brings me with him. The impact opens my water bottle and sends water all over me and Jisung. I was wearing white.”
It’s now that Seungmin realizes Hyunjin has Jisung’s old band hoodie from high school on. Seungmin’s wore that hoodie before when it started raining on a walk, and she was already sick. Jisung has very comfortable clothing that both of the girls love stealing despite the fact they’re both taller than him. It’s okay. Jisung is always more than happy to share his clothing with them.
"Then, as if I'm not already having a bad enough day, someone asks me if I'm dating Jisung? DOES IT LOOK LIKE I'M DATING HAN JISUNG WITH A LESBIAN PRIDE PIN ON MY BACKPACK? NO."
Okay.
“Do you know what I know that would make you feel better?” Seungmin playfully questions. She has to tell Hyunjin about the tickets now if she wants Hyunjin to spend the rest of the night happy.
She’ll just have to sacrifice her sleep, and that’s okay. “What?”
”I bought concert tickets for us to go see Taylor.” Seungmin avoids telling her that the rest of their friends are also going to be attending. Seungmin is right when she says that Hyunjin is going to start screaming, but at least it makes her girlfriend happy.

Lix

Changbin
Can you let us know what she's wearing so we have time to plan around her outfit and match?
Me
No actually I was thinking of throwing you all into the fucking deep end. Of course I'll let you know what she's planning on wearing.
It is the biggest miracle ever that Seungmin does not turn into a tomato upon seeing Hyunjin's outfit for the concert.
"Is this ring cute?" Seungmin shows Minho a picture of the ring that she bought. It's a gold ring with diamond gemstones covering the band and it also has a butterfly on it. It's the most Hyunjin thing Seungmin can think of.
Minho smiles at her and runs his hands through Seungmin’s hair. “I’m so glad it’s you. You are always going to be the best person for her.”
Seungmin is so glad that her girlfriend’s brother treats her as his honorary little sister. There is no other family Seungmin would ever want to marry into if not theirs.
The concert date comes around and Changbin drops off first thing in the morning while Hyunjin is at the store for one last thing. “Sorry, my brother got sick and I had to wait for my dad to get home from work.”
Seungmin shakes her head. “Never apologize for taking care of Moya, dimbass. Thank you.” Seungmin carefully takes the pink box out of Changbin’s hands and places the ring inside of it.
”She’s going to love this.”
Yeah, Hyunjin really is going to love this. No one else is ever going to compare to Hyunjin anyway, and this is something that she deserves. She deserves this proposal even if Seungmin hadn’t initially planned on it.
”She will.”
So, there is one problem when they get to the venue. Felix is too far on the side and he’s the only one who knows how to charge his phone. Minho’s is dead, Changbin didn’t even bring his phone, Seungmin and Jeongin both have no more storage, Chan’s phone is at 25% and dies within five seconds if he’s using it, and Jisung’s camera is extremely low quality because he refuses to get a new phone.
Seungmin has to find someone else to record for the two of them. Hyunjin before the concert starts has to go to the bathroom and excuses herself and takes Jisung with her to go grab two cups of soda. They’re going to need more.
They always need more.
But Seungmin takes the few minutes she has to turn around to the girls sitting behind her.
”Hi, I’m Seungmin, and I was wondering if you would be able to record me proposing to my girlfriend during love story?” She asks, just praying that the two girls say yes.
The one on the right nods enthusiastically. “I’m Lily, and this is the best thing anyone has ever asked me to do for them.” Seungmin has to hold back a giggle.
The other one also nods, but it’s less insane and Seungmin doesn’t think she’s about to give herself a fucking concussion. “It’s nice to meet you, Seungmin. I’m Lia, and this is actually my best friend. Don’t mind her. She’s wanted something like this to happen in front of her for as long as she can remember.”
Seungmin does not judge. It’s okay.
”What’s your girlfriend’s name?” Lia asks
instead of focusing on just how excited Lily seems to be.
”Hyunjin.” Seungmin replies. “We brought our entire friend group, but for some reason despite knowing I wanted to propose to her, none of us can actually record it.”
Lily shakes her head. “Unacceptable. We will take matters into our own hands and make sure you have the best video of your proposal we can get.”
Seungmin rolls her eyes right as Changbin taps her on the shoulder to turn around because Hyunjin and Jisung are coming back, and Seungmin doesn’t want to be seen talking to someone in case Hyunjin even has an inkling of suspect brewing.
She does notice the nod that Felix sends the girls way, though.
Listen, Seungmin is stressed the fuck out to make sure she gets the timing for this perfect. She likes Taylor, she wouldn’t have decided to have their proposal here even if Hyunjin liked the singer if she didn’t like her.
But that doesn’t mean she listens to Taylor Swift all the time, and she needs to make sure that this is perfect. The timing has to be perfect. She is stressed out and it’s okay.
A glance behind her tells her that Lily and Lia are both recording this. Their friends are watching them without it being obvious.
Hyunjin looks gorgeous in this light. Seungmin knows she would have married Hyunjin no matter what she looked like, but it is times like these that Seungmin remembers how lucky she is that Hyunjin chose her.
She could have had anyone, and Hyunjin chose her in the end.
”Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone, I’ll be waiting, all there’s left to do is run. You’ll be the prince, and I’ll be the princess, it’s a love story, baby just say yes.” If Seungmin is being completely honest, she did think that was the part where she was going to have to get down on one knee.
Lia behind her looks like she’s about to shit her pants, and Seungmin would feel so bad for putting this on her if she didn’t need this to work. She needed to have a video of this so she could always be remembered that she was the one who got Hyunjin in the end.
Hyunjin will always be the only one for her. Always. Minho looks like he’s about five seconds away from having a panic attack if this doesn’t go well.
Minho has been assuring her that Hyunjin in no world is going to say no to marrying Seungmin, and Seungmin believes him. Not only does he know Hyunjin better than anyone, but she also feels like there’s no way Hyunjin would ever tell her no.
Jisung, out of everyone, is the one who looks more nervous. Even Seungmin isn’t as nervous as he is. Jisung is so scared you would think he’s the one whose about to propose to Hyunjin.
It’s kind of cute, actually.
Hyunjin turns to look at Seungmin with a smile on her face. What Seungmin would give to make sure Hyunjin was always smiling. “But you were everything to me, and I was begging you please don’t go.”
They’re everything to each other, and that’s the way it’s always going to be. They don’t need anyone else. They never will. “I’m never going to leave you.” Seungmin repeated in Hyunjin’s ear like she had done a million times before.
After tonight, Hyunjin will be sure that Seungmin is never going to leave her.
“But I got tired of waiting.” Seungmin wants to throw up. She’s holding a hand behind her back with the box in hand. “Wondering if you were ever coming around. My faith in you was fading.”
Seungmin hopes that Hyunjin never has to think that about her. She may not be Romeo, but she is never going to leave Hyunjin on her own.
Hyunjin is never going to be by herself if Seungmin is allowed to have a say in it. “When I met you on the outside of town.”
Lia and Lily have to be the strongest soldiers ever for recording them.
Seungmin feels like she’s about to drop the fucking box with how shaky her hands are.
Is it just her, or is Changbin crying right now? He has been her best friend since the first ever day of school. Changbin couldn’t take being without Hyunjin, so he begged his parents to follow Hyunjin and Minho’s after seventh grade ended, and they listened. “And I said,”
Changbin is a mess. If Hyunjin was paying attention to her surroundings, she would definitely know what was about to happen to her. It was lucky that Hyunjin was not that type of person, because Seungmin doesn’t think that their friends would be able to hide their emotions.
“Romeo, save me, I’ve been feeling so alone. I keep waiting for you but you never come.”
Seungmin feels a hand behind her shove the box back into her hand when she almost drops it. Thank you.
”Is this in my head? I don’t know what to think. He knelt to the ground-“ Seungmin takes her cue, tapping Hyunjin on the shoulder and getting down on one knee with the pink box in hand. She winces at how dirty the ground under her must be. Hyunjin screams.
Minho takes that as his cue to start bawling his eyes out. Felix is screaming. Lia and Lily behind them both sound like they’re being murdered. Hyunjin and Jisung both look like they’re about to puke up what they ate for lunch.
”Marry me, Hyunjin. You’ll never have to be alone. I love you, and that’s all I really know. I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress. It’s a love story, baby, just say yes.”
Seungmin isn’t even able to finish her proposal before Hyunjin is nodding. Felix, Lily, Lia, and even Chan have all started screaming so loud that it attracts everyone in their section.
Seungmin has seen people’s proposals online where it gets a lot of people’s attention, but it never got their attention as much as Seungmin’s did. Hyunjin has tears in her eyes as she bends over to kiss Seungmin.
”You’re so. Ugh!” Hyunjin whines because she doesn’t really know what else to do. It’s a good thing that this was something she was never expecting. “I love you. I will always say yes.”
Jeongin has had one good idea in his life, and it was this.
