Work Text:

The stairs are long and arduous these days knowing what is ahead. Her heart was pounding in her ears. She knows what her heart craves. It craves where her feet are leading her. In her many years of life, she never felt like she has now.

As she was halfway up the stairs, she took a deep breath to quickly calm her heart. She didn't notice that she had stopped walking for that moment. As she reclaimed herself, she began to walk once more. She hasn't been up these stairs in awhile just because she knows what awaits her.

She made it to the top of the stairs to a throne that was taken. Taken by a form she hasn't seen in what feels like forever. To her heart her heart it was forever, but her mind knew it had only been a few months or so. Nothing in her long life has she has felt like that.

Her hair shining as bright as the sun while the light hit as she made her way to the throne. The throne had someone who was important to her sitting upon it. She took a handkerchief out of her pocket as she halted in front of the still form. She reaches out with the handkerchief waiting for the person stop her.

Yet the hand of the still form never moved. She smiled sadly at the masked face. She knew that he wasn't going to move. He hasn't since taking the throne. She reaches her destination on the face mask and began wiping away the dust that she would think would gather.

"I hope I haven't kept you waiting," the woman voiced as she continued wiping the face mask clean.

She paused for a moment placing the handkerchief in a pocket. She knew her heart was pounding as she cleaned that part of the body. The closeness that she wish she could've gotten. Her body craved the other, but it was too late. She can't go back in time.

"I've been painting since the war ended. And I can't help, but wonder what you would think of them."

She reached for the side of the face mask wishing that the person could answer. She smiled a little as her hand caressed the side of the face. She sighed knowing that her heart is broken by her silent companion. The heart is still mending, but her heart is now left with her silent companion.

"It has been a long time since I felt like this. Since I lost my family..."

She was hoping that she wouldn't have to feel this pain again. She barely knew the person, but her heart was stolen by him. If she could hand over her gnosis in exchange she would. At this point she knew the sacrifice wouldn't be in vain. But it would belittle the person's own sacrifice.

The loneliness in her heart is what makes her think like that. As for herself she respects what the other has done for her nation. Her heart is in constant war with her brain nowadays when she thinks of the other. She didn't know how bad she was taken with the other until the sacrifice happened.

"Why did you have to take my heart with you?"

She laid a hand on the shoulder of the stiff body. She leaned in placing a quick kiss to her companion's forehead. She missed the kisses that they secretly shared. Their relationship had been quiet and in secret. The secret of their relationship has stayed between them the entire time without any slip.

"Please rest easy. I'll be right here with you forever and always."

She could feel a tear come to one of her eyes. It hurt that they couldn't share more time together. Her hand slid to the other's hand laying on top of it. Her body started to slide down on the ground sitting beside the throne. Her head was now resting against the other's legs.

The body will be here for as long as the Ley Lines exist. She closed her eyes feeling as if her heart was at peace. Her heart was in endless joy as she sat beside the body of her lover. Her heart was at home with her lover. At home at the throne.

Notes:

I thought it'd be shorter than it came out, but here it is. This is my first fanfic for Genshin. This happens to be one of my favorite ships. I hope you enjoyed. Please leave a comment or kudos, if you'd like!
