Raging Tides and Calm Streams

Summary:

You wake up suddenly in the world of My Hero Academia with only your knowledge on your back. You have no idea who you are, what your quirk is and when you were teleported. Try your best to act normal, save everyone, figure out who you are while becoming a Hero. You've got this!.... probably.

Notes:

Hello! This is technically my second ever fanfic, please be gentle with me! or dont, I dont mind.

I've had this thought for a story for a long time, figured I'd give it a shot as an actual story. Can't guarantee it will be great but I have big plans!

Reader will NOT be a doormat or extremely nice and boring like most other stories. You will play a big part with a powerful quirk. As it should be.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: A Ripple Expands In Water

Chapter Text

The loud bang was enough to wake you up.

Your eyes fluttered open to a book on your desk and some snickering around you. Confusion rattled you,

“Don’t sleep in my class.” A gruff and gravely voice muttered. You could feel the glare barring on to you, but you refused to meet his eyes. Staring at your desk you tried to get your bearings. Last you remembered you were in bed, now you are in class and had fallen asleep…presumably.

You’re also also being publicly humiliated for it in front of your peers.

Trying to blink away the sleep and incoming migraine was becoming increasingly hard, your vision was blurry and the voices around you were muffled.

After a couple of seconds, you finally cleared the fog from both your eyes and brain, to be presented with both a familiar and unfamiliar scene. This was not your class, not by a mile, but it was a class that you knew well.

You must still be sleeping. This must be a dream.

You pinched yourself hard enough to jump. Pain existed here so where were you? Had you done that ‘shifting’ thing in your sleep?

“Sorry.” You mumbled.

“It’s sorry, sir. Use your words and speak clearly.” He gave you a pointed look and returned to his desk.

Shota Aizawa had scolded you for sleeping in class, a fictional character. His scruffy beard and long black tresses moved in tandem with every tired riddled step he took. The difference in real life was enough to be confusing, but by no mistake was that not him.

Your breathing began to pick up. Your thinking was becoming clearer.

Where were you?

With more confidence, you picked up your head and surveyed the room. Everyone from 1-A was here, just like the show…well not everyone, you were here too.

This couldn’t be real, how were you here? What day is it?

With that realization you quickly started digging in your pockets for your phone, hiding it under your desk to check the date.

It’s the day after you had fallen asleep. So how did you end up here so quickly?

Swiping up to enter your passcode, you quickly discover its wrong. Your normal phone passcode is incorrect, no matter how many times you enter it, that damn message keeps popping up. Eventually, it does lock you out for a minute. You huff and put the phone back in your pocket.

When you hear your last name called out by the man at the head of the class.

“What is the answer, to number three.” His voice and eyes are telling, he knows you were not paying attention.

Looking at your desk, a book is laid out on a specific page, you quickly scan over it and the question itself.

What the fuck. What kind of question is that?

‘Assign the proper principles according to the Hero’s Conduct in the table below’

1.)….
2.)…
3.) Vigilantism in rescue operations

What did that even mean??

A quick glance back at the passage you searched and searched for the word ‘vigilantism’ or anything related but found nothing.

“Pay attention next time.” He manages to finally let you off the hook. But you had not gave up yet.

“Vigilantism is rescuing operations is on a case-by-case basis, but normally still against Hero’s Conduct without a license and will still be met by the consequences.” You quickly blurt out. Directly from the passage, yes, but you found it on the earlier page. It was answered regardless!

“Hm.” He nodded and continued with his lecture. But you were shaking, you barely scraped by while in the middle of a panic attack. Why did you answer that? Why haven’t you stood up and asked where the fuck you are?

Right, you’ve seen enough movies and indulged in enough media to see how that ends.

Another scope around the room you took in everyone’s faces, some still pointed towards you with their eyes wide. Some key differences from the anime, but nonetheless, you could tell that these were the same people. The striking differences from what you’re used to was jarring, but you think you have it under control considering there’s more to worry about currently.

Not freaked out that someone is completely pink. No. Not at all. That’s normal. Right?

A deep breath in and a look back at your desk, you began to sort some things out, and decided wait until class was over to try your phone again. You could still hear Aizawa in the background of your thoughts incase he calls on you again, but you’re more zoned in on your next steps.

The person in front of you turns shuffles, catching your attention. They look back with clear worry in their eyes and creased brows.

Midoryia. The protagonist of this story, sitting right in front of you, paying attention to you.

“Are you alright?” He whispers, but you think everyone around you stilled slightly to listen in.

You search his face, still stunned by everything before managing to force out a “Yeah, thanks.” He turns back around at that, luckily. A little too close to breaking down into tears there. Seeing him turn around just solidified everything a little harder for you.

The bell rings and you all but shit your pants. How long had it been since you heard one of those?

“Are you sure you’re ok? You look a little pale.” Midoryia once again speaks up, and you curse his perceptiveness.

“You’re right, I don’t feel great today. But not unwell enough to miss class or go to the nurse. I will be alright. Thank you for your concern.” You smile as gently as you can stand up to follow everyone out the door, no one grabbed their bags, so it seems to be lunch time.

You don’t miss the red eyes following your form behind the tuff of green hair, he’s not being subtle about his suspicion at all. These kids were at the top of their generation, avoiding any suspicion was going to be next to impossible, obviously. But not completely, after all, you being here was supposed to be impossible, yet here you were. You just needed a bit more time to put things together. Also needed the the little walking questionnaire to calm down

Your legs were slightly wobbly, like jello from your nap? blackout? whichever fits. You really did try to stop it, but you tripped over your own foot, luckily catching yourself before you faceplanted on the floor.

Again, worry sprouts from the boy behind you.

“Careful! You should go to the nurses. I will come with you.” Those piercing green eyes were hard to avoid.

“No!” You clear your throat, that was a little more aggressive than you intended. “No, I just didn’t get any sleep last night. It’s my fault, really. Please, Midoryia.”

His head turns sharply at that. Seems like you had already made a mistake somewhere.

“Since when did you call me by my last name?”

Your eyes blew open before shifting back into a soft one, you had to control your emotions here. “The lack of sleep must really be getting to me. Sorry! Something to eat will probably help, let’s get in line.”

You hear your name softly called this time. “I’m worried”

Were you and Midoryia close enough in this universe for him to be acting like this? For him to be looking at you like that?

“Hey, we’re high-school students now. It’s the time for all-nighters before things get too serious. I promise if it gets worse, I will go to the nurse. Let’s try eating first, though. Yeah?” You add a laugh for good measure.

He doesn’t look convinced. But he doesn’t push further as you advance towards the line for food. You’re not even hungry after everything to be honest. You needed more time to adjust and figure out what’s happening. But that wouldn’t be happening any time soon with Sherlock over here hovering over you every second.

You reach over to grab some of your favorite food with shakey hands, more out of excitement. All the hype in the show for Lunch Rush’s food is getting you a little too excited. You were borderline salivating at the thought now that you could smell the food. Your beautifully curated mirage is tragically ruined when someone swipes the white rice out of your hands. Surprised and dejected you take a look at your perpetrator. Cruel, cruel and sick perpetrator. And snappy comment you were about to make gets caught in your throat as you look into those red eyes again. He was painfully attractive in real life, even with that permanent scowl.

"Gonna do something about it or just gape like the freak you are?" Your mouth snaps shut, reality slapping you across the face for the second time in a full minute. The audacity to steal food out of your hands and insult you? As much as you loved his character, holy fuck were you irritated.

"Kacchan! You can't steal people's lunch!" Midoryia jumps to your defense, but he wasn't shaking. How far into the year were you if Midoryia was no longer seemingly shaking in Bakugou's presence?

"Shut up, Deku" He snarls at the boy next to you, but quickly returns his gaze back to you."What was your fuckin' problem this morning? Looking all mopey and shit." Despite his wording, he was clearly asking out of concern. You only knew this because his character from an outside perspective, it would definitely be hard to stand him with no knowledge of how his mind works.

"Pulled an all-nighter last night. It'll be fine once I get some sleep." You gave your best sheepish smile, which he raised a brow at. God you wished you knew your relationship to them or even how the person in this body previously acted. You decided to try an alternative route with all the looks you were getting with the sweet act. "Don't worry, I'll be back to beating your ass in no time."

His tray began to shake in his hands out of anger, you swore you could see smoke pop out of his ears. "No one's worried about you! You will never beat my ass, Shitty Super Soaker!" You actually had to stand there and take it in for a second... Shitty Super Soaker? What the actual fuck does that mean. However, this could be beneficial, it was your first hint towards your quirk. Bakugou tends to give names to people depending on their quirks or outstanding physical features. But Super Soaker? Was your quirk like some type of water gun?

Oh no, was it weak??? Shit. You would have to try it out later.

"Don't mind Kacchan, let's go sit down." That soft spoken voice was becoming normal to you, luckily. You shook yourself out of your stupor and nodded, plastering a smile back on your face. You now officially had more to worry about than just a nickname. Like getting through the first day with no major mishaps. Would definitely be great if you could unlock your phone. You guys made your way towards the table where Ochako, Iida and Tsuyu were sitting at. Immediately after sitting down, you whipped your phone out. Just as you were about to attempt your passcode again, you felt those same prying eyes on you again, but aimed at your phone. He was a nosy little fucker wasn't he? You turned your phone off and turned back towards the group in front of you. The phone would have to wait.

“You seemed tired today, kero”. You were getting a little upset at how many people were pointing it out. Can someone not just be tired?? But it seemed like everyone else shared the sentiment, Nodding in agreement.

“Just pulled an all-nighter on accident last night, no biggie.” You shrugged at shoved some food into your mouth and damn was it good. Mentally, you were already married to Lunch Rush.

“You must be more careful! Sleep schedules are important to developing heroes!” Iida, of course, wasn’t letting up or getting the hint to drop the subject. You sighed.

“Yes, you’re right. Not a mistake I will be making again with everything that’s already happened. Aizawa for sure let me have it.” You finished with a giggle.

“But your answer was straight up badass!” Uraraka’s high energy was raising your energy with the way she pumped her fists in the air and hyped you up. “The pause for dramatic effect made it all the more cooler!” Her words were making you a little embarrassed, but it was appreciated regardless. Little did she know, it was not a pause for dramatic effect; you just genuinely didn’t know the answer and had to speed through reading the textbook to find the answer.

“Thanks! Think it was just the sleep lag that made me pause more than anything that might have been on purpose. Just glad I got the answer correct. He might’ve crucified me to the window with his scarf if I didn’t” Ochako laughs and Midoriya slaps a hand over his mouth, but the other two didn’t seem as entertained by what you said.

“Mr. Aizawa would never do such a thing! It is against the school’s guidelines for teachers! Such a thing would be a stain on the school’s reputation!” He was getting worked up over your comment, even bringing in his famous ‘hand chopping’ movements. It only fed into the three of you’s laughter.

“Just a joke Iida, I know he would never...without good reason.” Ochako actually spat out her drink at that.

It was a majority of you teasing Iida and him taking it too seriously until the bell rang again, and you all scrambled to put your stuff away and make a break for the classroom.

Just so happens Present Mic was setting up for his English lesson, which was great for you. You already knew English thanks to your past life? Dimension? Still so many questions as to what to refer to it as. You came here with Japanese implemented somehow, but your knowledge on English hasn’t changed. This class would be a breeze. You gave a wave to your classmates and took your seat with Midoriya in front of you again.

Fuck you were wrong; he was so damn loud it hurt so damn bad. The next hour and a half went by tortuously slow. For some sense of distraction, you slipped your phone out quickly again to try some other password ideas. No face-id on your phone was really hurting. If you ever got into this thing, that would be the first thing you put in.

Wrong again. Locked for 20 minutes this time. You grit your teeth and put it away, luckily scraping by without Present Mic noticing you on your phone. Or maybe he just didn’t care.

The next two classes progressed like that, teachers rambling on about their subject, and you repeatedly trying to unlock this fortress of a phone with the time penalty steadily increasing. But luckily it seemed there was no hero class today; you had more time to try to figure out your quirk.

Now that classes are over, you have an even bigger problem ahead of you.

Where the fuck did you live?

You pulled out your phone again and tried an old ass passcode from when you first ever got your phone years ago. The phone unlocked. Of fucking course, how stupid could you be? Obviously would have to be an older passcode of yours, not some different version of your current (old?) one. Quickly, you searched through messages for any mention of an address. Nothing.

Next, you checked maps and entered ‘Home’... nothing. You would have to get a little more creative. What other apps did you have? Oh! This might work!

Waiting for the app to load, an address was plastered on the top left. You internally jumped for joy and copied the address into maps for directions.

Doordash saved the day. Fuck your fat fucking chud life.
