He wasn't sure who it was, but he definitely slept with someone while he was blacked out last night. It only hurt more when Wallace Wells woke up next to Mobile the next morning. For starters, he was sure his husband wasn't supposed to be home so soon. Then, there was the fact that Wallace hadn't felt such ecstasy since the last time they'd had a night together, and the fact that missing Mobile so badly was the reason he got shitfaced in the first place. He couldn't put off coming clean forever, but he could certainly pretend things were perfectly fine for however long his husband slept after Wallace had woken up.
The first thing he was going to do after getting dressed was make an apology breakfast. An apology breakfast from Wallace Wells didn't look much different from any other kind of breakfast he might make for any special occasion. Scrambled eggs, bacon, and breakfast potatoes- it always had to be warm -were laid out on the table, waiting for his beloved and scorned husband. What did differ from the usual occasion was Wallace actually waiting for Mobile to wake up and join him instead of eating alone. Every tick of the clock felt as though he were waiting for an executioner to walk him down death row.
He didn't think he could feel any worse until Mobile entered the room, hair barely brushed and the slight smile he always wore when he was actually the happiest he could be. It was salt in the wound, the way Mobile asked, "Celebrating me back home?"
"Just wanted to talk with you," Wallace answered, trying to keep his voice even. He never thought he'd feel so nervous about confessing anything to a man.
Mobile took his seat across from him, and picked a strip of bacon from his plate. "Perfect as always," he remarked after taking a bite, "Wanna talk about how I wrapped up our project a week early, and how you're so proud that I'm definitely getting my bonus this year now."
Oh, so he was just the scum of the Earth for cheating, huh? Okay.
"What, uh… What time did you get back last night?" Wallace asked.
"Let's see… Flight must have touched down… Hm… I was really tired," Mobile replied with a noncommittal shrug, "Not surprised you don't remember."
"Yeah. About that. I might have…"
"Yeah?"
"I think I slept with someone last night."
Mobile stared at him, and Wallace braced himself for the fight. He'd actually enjoyed his marriage. Once upon a time, he never thought he'd enjoy something more permanent than a fling, and somehow he still found his slice of Heaven on Earth. Why did he have to do something so stupid and destroy it?
"Yes, Wallace, I know," Mobile replied, turning to his eggs.
Oh! Great! So he walked in on us! Wallace thought to himself.
At least the fight already happened, and he wouldn't even have to remember it. It might have been horrible, but he was relieved, even at the expense of learning from his mistake. Mobile seemed incredibly okay with it, at the very least, which either meant he'd forgiven Wallace, or he had already formulated a murder plan.
Mobile, to his surprise, snickered. "Wait, is this an apology breakfast? Not a celebration breakfast?"
Wallace tapped his fork against his untouched plate. "Well. Yeah. I mean-"
"Wallace. That was me."
"What?"
"You slept with me."
Wallace blinked. "Oh. Was it good?"
"Hell yes."
