Chapter Text
For a moment, there was silence. His green eyes were staring at the sky above him, focusing on the shining stars that never appeared in the polluted air of New York, however tonight, they decided to appear. Mona would like that, Raphael thought. Then looked around, feeling his head hurt and his vision blur a little.
All he saw was destruction.
He stood up quickly, feeling unbalanced and dizzy. New York smelled like fire and death. He could hear the screams, the cries of children and the dead bodies all over. Another headache hit him like a truck and he put his hand on his forehead.
There was blood on his hand.
Raphael looked around and heard another explosion. The ground shook. More people screamed and others were silenced. He slowly remembered what happened. A great attack of the Foot Clan and the Kraang combined. They formed an alliance. A strong alliance. Looking around the chaos they brought, it looked like an unstoppable alliance, but he would not give up. His family and friends never did. The man in red grabbed his sais and his mask, pulling his hair away from his sight. First thing he needed was to find his family, so they could fight together.
A group of Kraang soldiers came closer and he hid behind the debris. His head ached like hell, but he kept going. He needed to.
Donnie was the first one he found and Raph felt relief he was alive. Until he came closer and his stomach fell. Half of his brother’s arm was missing and he seemed close to unconsciousness. He kneeled close to him and grabbed his face.
“Donnie, stay with me.” His brown-red eyes looked at him, but didn’t seem to focus or reckon his presence at all. His arm bled profusely. Raphael tore a piece of his shirt and tried to slow the bleeding.
“You paid attention to my explanations about first aid.” Donatello said, half smiling. He laughed, feeling the tears come to his eyes.
“I never wanted to use them, though, not like this.” He answered, checking if there were any other visible wounds. For his relief, there was nothing else. Raph just needed to find him a safe place to stay until he found the others.
“Have you seen Leo? Mikey? Mona? They were in our group.”
“No, I…” Donnie would answer, but he was interrupted by an abrupt cough. There was blood in his mouth.
“For fuck sake, Don, we need to find you help, I can’t leave you alone here.” The situation was worse than Raph had thought. His little brother was in danger and he failed to protect him.
“Raphael!” Someone screamed and he turned to look. It was Slash, running in their direction. He seemed hurt too, but not as bad as Donnie.
“I need you to take Donnie somewhere safe, Slash.” He said and his friend gave him a worried look. “I have to keep fighting and find the others.”
“We lost, Raphael.” Slash stated, crying. That made Raphael’s heart fall in his chest, his friend never cried like this in front of him. However, he shook his head.
“I am not giving up.” He kissed Donnie’s forehead, took his little brother into his arms and stood up, shaking but standing still. “Please take care of him, we will meet again later.”
Slash still looked like he didn’t believe him, but he took Donnie’s body anyway.
“Be safe, Raph.” Donatello said, tearing up.
“I will be back, I promise.” He answered, saying goodbye and running to the direction of the fight. Raphael had to do it. Find his family and friends. Fight for their life and the city. And kiss Mona. God how he wanted to kiss her.
But then, another strong headache hit him, making him stop on his tracks. He hissed in pain, grabbing his hair as if it would make it stop. But it didn’t. His body slowly gave up, falling on the ground. His vision started to blur again and slowly, he passed out.
The last thing he saw was a smile.
A smile between the amongs of what New York once was.
