Work Text:

It was a Saturday in spring when the two secret love birds decided to go on a picnic date. They decided to meet up at the enchanted lake. Pink would bring the desserts and Max would bring some games and the picnic blanket. They would meet each other there, being in a secret relationship meant it would be a bit suspicious if they went there together. That was the hard part of the secret, not being able to do some of the normal couple things. But then they remember why they decided to keep it a secret and it all feels worth it. Nobody would approve of their relationship. Their parents hated each other. Her sister was friends with Max, but in her eyes Pink was way too young for a relationship. So secret relationship it was besides, they liked the thrill of the secrecy.

Max had arrived first, which he didn't find surprising as he had planned to arrive before her. He wanted to set up the picnic blanket and such so he could impress her. But he would never admit to it. He had picked out a Pink striped blanket and a purple checkered one to lay on top of one another. A bouquet of wildflowers, as she appreciated the mundane beauty too, and a vase to put them in. Lastly, he brought a chessboard and a book to read.

Pink arrived just as he was done setting up. Seeing her made his heart skip a beat. She was wearing her hair for once in a high ponytail, with a bow of course, a light frilly dress and cute pink heels. She looked so beautiful to him. She was looking around, clearly she hadn't spotted him yet. He waved hoping it would catch her attention. Luckily It did, she spotted him and skipped over to him with excitement. “Max!” Pink shouted as she threw herself into his arms. “Missed me princess?” He greeted her back while returning the hug. They stayed like that for a bit, savouring the moment.

After letting each other go, Max took her hand, took over the heavy picnic basket and guided her to their spot. “How romantic,” Pink said while letting out a giggle. “Only the best for you princess,” He answered with a grin on his face. They sat down and Pink unloaded the desserts she made. The princess had made of course vanilla cupcakes, blondies and brownies and cookies. “Princess, isn’t this a bit much for just the two of us?” Max asked. “Maybe, but I was just so excited, I just couldn’t help myself,” she tells him. Hearing that put a smile on the hatters face.

It was a beautiful afternoon, the sun was shining and the birds chirped. The two lovebirds ate dessert, played chess, talked and maybe even kissed. Max showed off his magic tricks and Pink got butterflies to land on them, in true princess fashion. “How do you do that?” Max questions her, bewildered. “The butterflies?” she answered. “Well I don’t know exactly, I always had a connection with them, the real question is how do you do those magic tricks,” she countered. “Well princess, a magician never reveals his secrets,” he tells her with a grin on his face. “Come on Hatter, can’t you reveal it to me, your other secret,” she teases. “Alright, alright, I’ll teach you one,” he said while laughing a bit. He hands her a coin. “You place one hand like this and the other one like that,” Max said, while placing one hand open and the other on above it holding a coin. “Now you open your pinky, but make sure it is not in view,” he explained. “Then you drop the coin and scoop it back up with your pinky,” he demonstrates. “Lastly you close the open hand and open it back up showing there is no coin,” he tells her. Pink tried to do it but found it a bit difficult, but kept on going anyway. “Not that easy, right princess,” Max comments teasingly on her frustration with the trick. “Yeah, but it now makes it more impressive when you do it, Hatter,” she teased back. “Well then I gotta do it more,” Max said while touching her face, before pulling a coin out from behind her ear. Pink puts on an exaggerated surprise face on, this made him laugh. Then Pink pulled his face back close to her and kissed him. The kissing continued, laying down on the picnic blanket.

After that they settled down again. Pink laid down with her head in his lap, while making a flower crown she put around the hatters hat. Max on the other hand was reading her book, or at least trying. He got more distracted by Pink’s beauty then he read the words on the page. Until they suddenly heard a sound. At first they thought it was just a small critter, but when it started getting closer it started sounding more like voices, more specifically their friends. The couple shot up, looking at each other with wide eyes. Max was the first to start looking around for a hiding place, deciding that behind the trees was the best place to hide. Max grabs Pink hand, who is trying to grab their stuff, but there was no time for that. He ran with her hand in hand behind a tree big enough to hide them. “Max, our stuff!” she yelps, but before she can say anything more he puts a hand over her mouth as some of their friends come into view. It was Red, Chloe and Hazel, chatting about something he couldn’t make out. Luckily for them they walked just past.

He removes his hand from Pink’s mouth. “Why did you do that?” she questions, a bit in shock still. “You were too loud, if not we would have been caught,” he told her. “But did it have to be like that,” the girl pouted. “Would you rather I did it with my mouth,” Max asked her in a flirty tone. “Mmm, I think I wouldn’t have minded that,” she answered, also in a flirty tone while putting her arms around his neck. This puts a smirk on Hatter’s face, who puts his hands around her waist. He leaned in to kiss her but before their lips could touch they heard, “Gross you guys.” Both startled they turned their heads towards the location of the noise, it was Hazel standing there. “What, you guys look like you’d seen a ghost,” the pirate said after what felt for the two like forever. “Weren’t you supposed to be with the others,” Max counters, trying to sound cool. “Like you aren’t supposed to be dating,” She countered. “How did you know we were here?” Pink questioned. “Princess did you really not think I would see the picnic set up that just screamed Pink,” Hazel told them. “If it helps, Max brought the set up, I was only in charge of the food,” the princess said. “Oh really, lover boy did all that for you,” she said teasingly while looking at Max. “You haven’t answered my question Hazel,” he butts in before the pirate can tease him further. “For your information, I was, but then saw you hiding and decided that would be more fun,” she answered. “Does the rest know you saw us?” Pink asked in a panic. “Relax, they know nothing about this,” she said while gesturing at them with her hook. This made Pink out a sigh of relief. “I told them I needed to do something and to go ahead without me,” she adds. “Okay good, they can’t know about this, about us,” Max told her. “Relax lover boy, I’m not about to out this, besides then I wouldn't have any blackmail,” She told them before walking away laughing. The couple start laughing too, knowing they might get blackmailed into baking for the Smees.
