The first time Sebek tried to gain Silver's attention, he picked wildflowers from around Lilia's cottage, vibrant and small, they were no larger than his small palms.
"Silver!" he huffed, "I have a gift for you!" and he shoved the flowers in Silver's hands while waiting anxiously, rocking on his feet and holding his breath.
"Oh, wow. Thank you Sebek." Silver accepted with a smile. He then proceeded to eat them!? Sebek could only sputter and gawk
"SILVER!?"
"They're pansies," he replied calmly, like he hadn't just eaten Sebek's gift to him, like it was perfectly normal to eat flowers "Didn't you know? They're edible."
Sebek could only storm off indignantly.
The second time Sebek tried to gain Silver's attention, they were no longer tweens, he presented Silver with another ribbon for his hair. Sebek had noticed that Silver's current one had seen better days, so when Silver took it into his hands he exclaimed
"Oh! Floppy would look so cute with this on! Thank you Sebek."
"… Floppy?"
"The rabbit that lives near the greenhouses." he replies with an easy smile
"… But that was for your hair?" Sebek questions(?), but Silver had already left (to presumably see Floppy?).
The third time Sebek tried to gain Silver's attention was after Silver's birthday celebration at Wildrose castle, he hadn't been able to finish his gift by then, but now it was ready. Sebek had spent meticulous hours bent over the darned thing, and had to restart three times! But in the end it was worth it, Sebek had made an intricately carved figurine of Sliver's bunny that lived by the greenhouses (was its name Fluffy?), he had even made sure to carve out the little feet!
"Silver! H-happy late birthday!" Sebek held out the small bunny
"Oh Sebek, you didn't have to get me anything." he said with a smile
"W-well I didn't gift you anything on your birthday, and that is a personal failing as a knight!" he sniffed
"Thank you." he took it and placed it in his pocket. Just as Sebek was about to confess, one of the troublesome twins came over! Holding mushroom risotto of all things!
"Ah, Sebek, you wouldn't mind if I borrowed our dear Silver here would you?" he asked with his unnerving smile
"Of course not." Sebek replied with his teeth ground.
On the fourth attempt, Sebek didn't even bother, it seemed like everything was against him trying to confess to Silver. On one of his late night patrols around the dorm he heard soft murmuring around the corner. Slowing down and sneaking nearby he assessed if it was a threat, but it wasn't! The murmuring had come from Silver talking to his rabbit, just as Sebek was about to make himself known, he heard his name
"I don't know what else to do, I help him with extra chores, I make sure to train just as diligently, I even do the laundry." (So that's how his clothes were cleaned) "That thunderhead just doesn't seem to notice."
"Hey!" Silver startles "How was I supposed to know! You should have just told me! I've been working years for you to notice me!"
"You have?"
"I have." he harrumphed, then Silver did something unexpected, he chuckled. Realizing what Silver was laughing about, Sebek too started laughing.
"We're both a bit thick aren't we."
