swing towards you

Summary:

“Yeah, I have.” You admit in defeat. Excluding a few details or so wouldn't hurt anyone. For what Ned and MJ knew, you were only seeing an intern who had worked in the tower and had been inside it a few times.

Chapter Text

With your torn up bag swung over your shoulder, you walk into the familiar setting of your DECA class.

As you enter, you see your friends, Ned and Mj, talking secretively with their heads low. Mj glances over and catches your eyes, a slight smirk coming across her face. She waves you over with a quick and ushering hand, and you flash her a confused expression. She rolls her eyes at Ned as you decide to follow her orders. You take the seat next to MJ and across from Ned.

“-and it’s plausible! There’s absolutely no way it could be anything else.” Ned continues on, stopping himself as you take a seat. “Y/N! I was just explaining how this field trip has to be to Stark Industries!. Mj over here won’t agree with me.

“I never said I disagreed, I just said it was already fairly obvious. There was no need to give me a full rundown of what you thought each of his little hints meant.” She responded, flicking her eyes between you and Ned. Her gaze landed on you as she noticed a hint of something that could only be described as confusion on your face.

“Wait, wait, wait, what did you say? Stark Industries?” You spill out, eyes wide in shock. Mj must've noticed your face fall as Ned mentioned the tower, and the possibility of going there, as she slapped a hand over her mouth to suppress her laughter. Ned looked at you innocently, confused by your reaction.

After a few seconds, it hit him.

“Ohhhh!” He perked up, remembering an important detail. “Haven’t you been seeing an intern there?” He questioned. You shift uncomfortably in your seat and run your hand through your hair.

“Yeah, I have.” You admit in defeat. Excluding a few details or so wouldn't hurt anyone. For what Ned and MJ knew, you were only seeing an intern who had worked in the tower and had been inside it a few times. You shrugged.

“Alright! Listen up!” Mr. Harrington announces, clapping his hands together. The class turns towards the front, and the room quickly becomes silent.

“Tomorrow will be our last field trip of the year!” He begins, before being cut off by a chorus of claps from the students. He clears his throat before continuing. “Now, I apologize for the late announcement, but the school had to take their time to finalize all details. As you all should know, the field trip is an extraordinary opportunity for all of you. Be on your best behavior, or you will be escorted out and your parents will be called. Many of you have already correctly figured out the location of tomorrow’s trip. That being said, I can officially announce that our DECA team will be taking a field trip to Stark Industries tomorrow!” Mr Harrington announces, and the class breaks out into an uproar of applause. Your face falls into your hands as your peer, Flash, turns your way.

“I guess it’s time to see if Y/N’s little fairy tale is true or not! You’re awful at lying.” He laughs, gaining a stern look from Mr. Harrington. You grunt in annoyance.

You know you’re not lying, but somethings just sound far too crazy to try and explain to someone as simple-minded as Flash.

After a while, you finally make it out of the meeting. You contemplate on how this day couldn't really get any worse.

You take the normal route down to Melrose Avenue, where Happy is waiting to pick you up. You approach the car with a weary smile, still unsure about the events going on the next day.

You slide into the car, and Happy looks at you with a mild expression. He doesn't say anything before he hits the gas. You speed down the streets in a silent car, Happy reading you before you have to say anything. Your eyes focus down on your backpack the entire ride as Happy taps his fingers on the wheel.

Every stoplight felt like twenty years, and every turn felt impossibly slow. All you wanted was to return back to the tower and pour yourself a nice glass of lemonade—and maybe perhaps tell your boyfriend about the trip tomorrow.

As the car pulled into the private driveway, you eagerly grab your bag and hop out. Finally, you would be able to take a moment to rest and prepare for tomorrow—more mentally than physically.

You take the first elevator to your left, a private one that was placed conveniently next to the garage. Stepping in, FRIDAY scans your biometrics.

“Good evening, Y/N, would you like me to alert Peter of your arrival?” FRIDAY announces.

“No thanks, FRI.” You quietly respond to the AI, clicking on the 79th floor button. The elevator doors come to a close with a click, before the familiar hum of the elevator takes over. The elevator ride takes no longer than a few minutes before you arrive at your destination: the lounge.

The doors slide open to reveal an opulent living space, with a lavish kitchen tucked away on the right. Sitting on the couch is Natasha and Clint. Natasha looks up and gives you a small wave. On the tv is some action show you could have sworn you’d caught them watching before.

“Солнышко! How was your day?” She asks you, still looking over the back of the couch. Your exhaustion dissipates as you turn to face her again, smiling as you recall the good parts of your day. Specifically the good parts. She notices your quick change and chuckles to herself.

WIth a nice glass of lemonade still on your mind, you step over into the kitchen area. Thank Thor it’s empty you mutter to yourself. You rummage through the cabinets for a second before finding your favorite glass. It was a hand-crafted wine glass, adorned with intricate designs. It was a birthday gift from your boyfriend last year, who knew just how you appreciate a new fancy glass to drink out of. You swiftly grab the lemonade out of the fridge, and hum softly to yourself as the glass slowly fills.

Lost in thought, you wander towards the elevator with your glass of lemonade in hand. “FRIDAY, take me to Peter’s lab” you tell the AI.

When the doors open, you find your boyfriend sprawled out across a new project. Peter Stark, the son of Tony Stark, and the only heir of Stark industries, had his whole life set up for him. He grew up surrounded by geniuses, and followed in his father’s footsteps with his love for technology. His mind had you entirely dumbfounded, incapable of being read thoroughly. He was far smarter than anyone his age that you knew.

His identity was a mystery to the public. It was well known that Tony Stark had a son, but little else had been shared with the world. The only thing out there was his name: Peter Stark.

As you stand behind the famous Peter Stark, your heart almost skips a beat.

It had been an outrageously long day, and besides your glass of lemonade, all you had wanted was to see your boyfriend. You take the first step out of the elevator towards Peter as he quickly whips his head toward you.

A smile spreads across his face instantly, and he sets down his tools. His body shifts around as he spreads his arms out, waiting for you to come running into his embrace. Of course, you fulfill his wishes. You crash into his arms, releasing all of the tension built up during your day. You melt into his embrace.

“Long day?” he huffs out, still smiling brightly. You hum into his chest. His hands don't budge.

“How’d you know I was coming?” you question before he can ask anything else.

“FRIDAY isn't the only one with eyes on the building.” He replays, ruffling your hair. His fingers run through your hair delicately, as if they were afraid to touch you.

Your mind trails back to the news of the field trip earlier. Peter was and always has been homeschooled, meaning he was always at the tower. There was definitely a chance you would run into him tomorrow, and perhaps that was what scared you the most.

His hands release their firm grasp as he pulls back from you. He gives you one look up and down, before he tilts his head. He definitely knew something was up.

“Is something wrong?”

“No, It's nothing” you solemnly reply. Tomorrow will be another long day.
