Chapter 1: The Party

Chapter Text

Macy

You never know when your last moment will be so live life with no regrets, love the lord, and treasure yourself. At least that's what my mother always tells me. I slip into my shoes and bounce out my garage door. The midday sun warm on my skin as I make my way to the music booming out of the speakers in the building. The large garage looming over me like a tall tree would. I walk around the side of it preparing myself for the people inside, then opening the old side door and slipping inside. A few people look toward me as they keep talking to each other. I spot my father sitting in a swivel chair with a beer glass in his hand chuckling with his friends, then I hear my mom off to my left. I turn my head to look at her as she is chatting with a work friend of, hers named Jannet while holding a plate of food. I slip over to her side resting my chin on her shoulder.
“O, hi Macy” she says softly.
Slipping an arm around me for a side hug while she keeps talking to Jannet. I softly smile as I melt into her side trying to drown out the chatter from the other people in the area. Taking a deep breath, I break off of her side and grab a plate slowly placing things that I know I'm going to eat on it. I take my half full plate to a lawn chair with a rocking feature plopping down into it and starting to eat the food on my plate. I watch across the room as the colored liquid slowly drains from my father's cup as he continues to talk to his friends, talking on and on. The room around me becomes fuzzier as I disappear into my thoughts as I paint the internal stage for the only person who truly knows who I am as a person, and the person who I spend the most time talking to. He comes in many different forms, but I picture him to be around my age. Most people have a favorite friend, but I just have someone in my head who I refuse to believe is fake. He's real to me and he keeps me company, so I don't care if nobody else knows about him. As I drone on mindlessly thinking to myself people shuffle around me helping themselves to food and finding a place to sit.
…
I blink my eyes, finally snapping out of my staring competition that I'm apparently having with the air in front of me. People are still chatting around me, and everything seems to get too loud to deal with. I stand up tossing the half-eaten plate in the trash not wanting to eat anymore, my appetite vanishing into thin air. I walk to the exit looking around as I slip out of the loud garage. Taking a deep breath, I walk back to my house to find my phone, after collecting it as well as my headphones I walk out onto my side porch sliding into one of the cloths hanging chairs that are out there. Putting my headphones in my ears and turning on my fabulous playlist of 523 different songs that all hit differently just like my conversations with the only person who truly knows me aka Alex, my inside buddy. I sit on the swing gliding forward and backwards for a while just jamming out. I only realize just how long I have been here when the sunlight from the last glint of light that the sun throws over the horizon hits my glasses like it was personally trying to assault my eyes. I get yanked out of my conversation that I was having with Alex as I blink myself back into the exhausting reality of existence. My music is still blaring over into my brain like it's trying to drown me in the lyrics. I jab at the button on the side of my phone that helps solve that particular problem by turning down the symphony playing through my very brain, slipping out of the chair that held me comfortably for the many hours that I mind jumped over to get here. I grumble walking back to that horrendously loud garage knowing that my parents are going to be mad at me for not socializing enough today.
