Work Text:
It was Valentine's Day, and it had been almost a year since Loki and Mobius met each other—that day when Mobius first introduced himself to Loki, to the person he'd been studying for so long. From that brief moment, he always felt a little twist in his stomach whenever he saw Loki. And as time went by, that feeling for Loki started to grow stronger. But he never dared to confess his actual feelings to Loki. Of course, he would always be only a friend to Loki, because how can the god of mischief possibly have the same feelings for him?
Mobius was sitting in his office, overwhelmed by the stack full of papers in front of him. Where the hell had Loki been to? Surely he can't do all this work on his own.
"Mobius!"
Mobius heard the opening of his office door and in came no other than the god of mischief. He turned around to find Loki standing at the doorway, grinning from ear to ear. His eyes were shining with excitement.
Loki, where have you been?! We've got a LOT of work to do. This variant seems to be a tough case." The obvious exhaustion in his voice was enough to show that he'd probably been working for a whole day, or maybe longer. Who knows how time works in the TVA?
Loki lets out a little laugh, the analyst frowned. "Well, guess what, I've got a surprise for you!" And before the analyst could say another word, the god grabbed him firmly by the arm, pulling him into the hallway, where it's just the two of them.
"Give me your tempad."
"What?"
"Give me your tempad," the god repeated in a firm voice. "Trust me." He added, with a spark of pleading in his eyes.
The analyst frowned. The god of lies, asking him to trust him? This whole thing seemed suspicious. But after all the things he and Loki had been through, surely he wouldn't be trying to kill him, right?
"Fine." He took out the tempad from his pocket. Not knowing why, but he had a good feeling about this.
"Thank you." The god nodded to the analyst, and he typed something that Mobius couldn't quite see clearly. And as the orange door appeared, Loki gestured Mobius to step in as he quickly followed behind.
As they stepped through the door, they found themselves at the door of a retro diner in the 1950s. The god immediately indicated Mobius through the diner door and they sat down, sitting next to each other. Mobius surveyed the room, checkered floor, red booths and a jukebox playing old, vintage songs.
They ordered two coffees and two key lime pies, as it was Mobius's favorite. The analyst kept talking about work, life, everything. But Loki couldn't really concentrate and listen. Instead, he was staring at his partner, memorizing every part of his face, how his eyes spark when he got excited, and how his crooked nose made his whole face cuter, and the way he keeps talking on and on and on... Deep inside, he wanted to tell Mobius how he actually felt, that he loved him.
"This is the best key lime pie I've ever had!" Mobius gasped in astonishment after taking one bite. "That's because you've only had food in the TVA."Loki chuckled. "C'mon, the food in the TVA ain't that bad." "Well, if you say so." They laughed and joked the whole session. Suddenly, Loki looked up at Mobius. "You have a little... uh, cream, on your... let me just help you." Before Mobius could react, Loki leaned forward, their faces so close that they could hear each other's breath. The god then gently placed his left hand on the analyst's cheek and slowly and softly, wiped off the cream. The analyst froze, his mind went completely blank. He just gazed into the god's eyes, those gorgeous emerald green eyes of his. Their eyes met. Mobius wanted to say something, wanted to tell something to Loki as he felt Loki's icy cold hand caressed his skin. He opened his mouth, but the words died in his throat.
There was a pause of silence as Loki sat back down in his seat. Mobius felt something in his chest stirred, his mind racing. Even after the god's cold hand shifted his skin, he felt his face started to burn with flush. What was that? Why did Loki just do that? Questions poured like waves in his head and he felt as if he were drowning. He just kept frozen in silent, not saying a word, not daring to look up at the god.
Seeing the analyst's anxious face, Loki panicked. What was he expecting? What a fool he had been. Surely what he did done made Mobius uncomfortable, what the hell was he thinking?!?!
"I'm sorry... if that just made you feel uncomfortable." Loki stammered out.
"No."
“What?"
"You don't have to be... sorry." Mobius finally had the courage to lift his head and look at the god. "Loki... I've wanted to tell you something for a long time." Mobius continued, after taking a deep breath. "I… I think I love you."
Those words hit Loki like a rock. His hands went weak. The fork slipped from his fingers and hit the table with a loud "thud", shattering the instant silence. His jaw dropped. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something. But suddenly it was as if he had become speechless, and no words came out.
"I'm sorry, this all sounds stupid. I shouldn't have—"
"—Me too."
And before Mobius could react, Loki reached out and cupped Mobius's face with both hands, pulling him in.Mobius's pupils dilated, his breath catching in his throat. And he kissed back. He gently ran his fingers through the god's soft black hair, pulling Loki closer like he was afraid to let go.
They kissed like they had all the time in the world.
When they broke apart, searching for oxygen, they just gazed at each other, and laughed breezily like stupid love birds.
"So does this count as a date?" Mobius whispered, their faces were still so close.
"Whatever you'd like to name it, my prince."Loki tilted his head forward til their noses touched.
"And you're my prince, forever." Mobius shook his head slowly,a smile tugging at his lips as he closed his eyes. This all felt like a dream—one he could never wake up from.
And they leaned in again, this time with nothing left unsaid.
