Work Text:
The day has been like any other day really. I sat in my apartment having lunch like always as I stared at the window watching the railway which was right across the street. Of course with how much noise comes from the place I'm not surprised it was a pretty cheap place to rent at. After all, who wants to hear all that Railway noise day in and day out… Well I did of course I always adored the railway, the freight, coaches and engines all doing their jobs even if it got really loud sometimes. But I never minded it and being this close I was able to always watch the happenings right through my apartment window everyday.
As I sat there eating my lunch I stared out towards the east side of the Railway. Not many Railfolk would come to the side, it seemed most of the work was done towards the other side of the Railway yard. Yet there would always be one that would come along this side everyday, and he was my favorite…. Or well is my favorite to be honest. I don't know his name, I don't know what he's like, but he always had a smile on his face. I enjoyed that, especially because seeing someone as big as him smiling and seeming to enjoy what he does made me feel happy too. All I could really guess from his appearance is that he was a caboose, so I could really only assume he enjoyed being who he is.
Yet as I reflect sitting here with my food and thinking about that caboose, I can't help but feel warmth when thinking about him. From his weird vibes he seems to have, to his mustache on his face, those big bulky headphones and his trucker cap too. He just seemed to be someone I'd enjoy being with, but I'd never actually go down there to meet him. I would be too nervous… and yet somehow if I did bring myself to do what I don't think I'd actually be scared once I meet him.
As I finally take another bite of my food, right on the dot he passes by the east side of the Railway at 12:25. And I can't help but smile back even if he doesn't know I'm there. But maybe one day we'll meet and I'll get to know that mysterious caboose who brings joy to my day every single day when he passes by the east side of the Railway.
