Chapter Text
It was like all the breath was instantaneously sucked out of the room. For a few moments everyone stared at Malfoy in silence as he stared back. Harry had fully expected Malfoy to be screaming that Harry had done this on purpose, looking as sour and prickly as ever. This was not what he had expected. He looked confused, dazed, even unsure. His frazzled eyes mixed with his unkept hair made him look almost innocent-like. Something Harry had never connected Malfoy to before.
"Oh god, what if the potion worked and he's forgotten everything?" Harry wondered frantically.
Madam Promfrey seemed to be thinking along the same lines as she stepped cautiously towards Malfoy. "Hello Mister, Malfoy" she spoke softly, as if soothing a wild animal. "You're in the hospital wing because of an accident in potions. You can thank Mister Potter over there for that." Draco peered over at Harry curiously, who suddenly felt very uncomfortable.
"Could you please tell me today's date?"Continued Madam Promfrey. Everyone waited in tense silence for his answer.
Eyes wide he replied, " I uhh,"
Harry's heart dropped.
"I don't know, I'm sorry." He finished.
Malfoy looked quite apologetic, a weird expression to see plastered on his face.
"That's ok." Murmured Madam Promfrey, obviously knowing this was anything but ok. "Can you tell me anything you remember before waking up here?"
Malfoy looked concentrated as he thought of an answer.
"No" he whispered looking terrified. "I don't remember anything."
His eyes wandered off to a corner of a room as he stared into the distance.
Madam Promfrey nodded gravely, then staked over Professor McGonagall and Snape to discuss what just happened.
Harry still sat there awkwardly, unsure of what to do and feeling guilty for getting Malfoy into this mess. "It was my own fault really." Harry thought. If he just hadn't lost his temper like he'd been doing so often recently, he surely wouldn't be sitting here in the Hospital Wing next to a memory wiped Draco Malfoy.
As if reading his thoughts, Malfoy went out of his trance-like state to look at Harry. "So who are you then?" He asked tilting his head ever so slightly. Harry couldn't believe he was having this conversation right now.
"Oh um my name's Harry Potter" he replied.
"Harry." Malfoy parroted as if trying to recognise this name. Harry almost laughed at the ludicrousness of it all; he couldn't remember a time Malfoy had used his first name in the 4 years they'd known each other.
"I'm sorry," Malfoy continued, "but could you tell me what my name is?"
"Your name is Draco" answered a voice above Harry's shoulder. It was the Slytherin girl. Up close, Harry recognised her. She was a member of the Slytherin's quidditch team, a chaser he was pretty sure. She stared unblinkingly at Draco.
"Oh hello," Draco greeted the mystery girl. "I'm sorry I don't remember you." He admitted looking regretful.
"From what I've heard," she criticized, eyes flashing in annoyance at Harry. "It's not exactly your fault is it?"
"Yeah sorry about that by the way." Harry apologised a bit uselessly while rubbing his neck. "Although," thought Harry grudgingly, "He didn't exactly make it easy for me not to did he?"
"Oh" said Draco, a frown tugging at his lips, "I'm sorry for provoking you?"
"I thought you didn't remember anything?" Harry shot accusingly at Draco.
"I'm a legilimens apparently." Draco murmured with astonished eyes.
Harry raised his eyebrows; Draco Malfoy was the last person he would think to be a legilimens. Legilimency is thought to be one of the most difficult pieces of magic to ever exist.
Slytherin girl bit her lip and gave Draco a once over, making Harry suddenly feel a bit out of place.
"My name's Astoria." She kept her eyes firmly placed on Draco.
"Are we friends?" Asked Draco hopefully, eyes round, containing a pure and innocent curiosity that seemed somewhat unfamiliar on his face.
"Something like that." Astoria breathed, her hazel eyes large and bright. Draco gazed wonderingly up at her with equally bright eyes.
"Anyway," said Astoria breaking eye contact as she turned to leave, "get well soon Draco."
"Oh um thank you!" Called Draco as Astoria walked away, her long dark hair swishing behind her.
