Tie your shoes before you run off into the world

Chapter 2

Summary:

To the doctor we go! Jack Manifold had better not know what he was talking about, Tommy is not below human sacrifice at this point in order to get to his beloved big brothers.

Enjoy the second half; I procrastinated like a pro because I could not for the life of me write the doctor's office scene for some reason.

Notes:

Thank you for sticking around <3 requests suggestions feedback, I take them all.

Chapter Text

Tommy was conflicted, very very conflicted. From his carseat in the backseat of Dream’s car, he could see familiar roads and trees passing quickly, slowly changing into strange and new landscaping. Since the moment he’d taken Tommy out and buckled him into his booster seat, Dream had been rambling reassurances about how his big brothers were just fine, and how everything would be okay. (Neither of them was sure who Dream was attempting to reassure at this point…)

“Almost there! Look at these lovely trees, and there’s a crow up on that fence! Your Dad- he really likes crows, right?” Dream spewed, barely leaving time for him to breathe let alone answer any of his questions.

“Mhm… Phil’s friends with the crows, they steal his bacon when we eat outside.” Tommy mumbled, making Dream beam with encouragement and continue babbling until they reached the parking lot.

“Now Tommy, Techno and Wilbur are only here for a checkup. However, there are sick people getting treated and they need our respect and quiet…” Tommy zoned out the moment he realized it was a lecture about how to behave inside of the building ahead. There were lush green potted plants all around, and colorful window stickies plastered on the glass front doors. Tommy wasn’t fooled by the cheerful decor, he could smell the wronguns from a mile away. Above said doors was a sign that had a big scary word starting with ‘P’, so Tommy decided it was time to go inside to get away from words which he was only pretending to not know. Big men such as Tommy were never scared or intimidated, or ever wrong for that matter.

Giving the heavy doors a mighty push with all of his little 5-year-old strength, he pushed open the doors and sprinted inside. Past the waiting area with various sizes of plush chairs and a large busy fishtank, Tommy rushed through the doorway to the examination rooms. Dodging the various grabs made at him by doctors and nurses alike, he hurtled down the hall in search of his brothers. The more rooms he passed, (knocking as loud as his little hands could and listening for his Dad or Ponk’s voice) the little boy became progressively more and more upset at his lack of success.

Just as he was about to give up and sit on the hard tiled floor and cry- the very last door in the hall opened! Out from behind the sticker plastered door stepped a familiar yellow sweater, quickly followed by the rest of his Wilby.

“Wil- Wil’bah?” he whimpered, not believing his eyes. A moment later out emerged Philza, Techno holding his hand and looking at his baby brother with wide shocked eyes. “Tommy!” His Papa yelped, tugging Tech gently forward to be with Wilbur and then promptly sprinting for his littlest one. Tommy sobbed, loud and uncontrolled as his father- his Dad, his Papa held him tightly to his chest.

“Toms- baby, you were supposed to wait in the lobby…” Phil sighed, running a calloused hand through his hair as he pulled back to look over his child. Dream rushed up from the direction of the waiting area, panting heavily. “Mr. Minecraft- I’m so sorry, I was trying to explain to the receptionist and he slipped by like a fish!-” “It’s alright. All’s well that ends well.” The father smiled, nodding his thanks to the blonde teen for bringing his distressed toddler to him.

Phil and Dream stood to chat a bit, Dream going more in-depth as to how Tommy’s no good very bad day had been so far. “Well, I can see why you didn’t say all that on the phone mate, quite the emergency on the kindergarten level.” Phil winked, grinning at the younger as he filled him in.

“Tommy! You’ve got scrapes and cuts everywhere, what on earth did you do?!” A frantic Wilbur yelped, holding the sunshine child’s face in his hands and examining every inch of his soft baby skin. Techno was fussing over their little brother as well, just a bit less vocally than his twin. The pink haired 3rd grader scampered off to the nursing station and nabbed a few colorful band-aids. “Wilby, it’s okay!” Tommy whined, batting away the warm hands poking at him. “I just tripped over a rock in the road, ‘m just fine!” If Wilbur was being unreasonably protective of the 5-year-old before that declaration, said child may as well be a newborn in the elder’s eyes.

Tommy groaned in frustration as Wilbur let out a dramatic shriek before promptly lifting him into his arms. Technoblade, watching (and listening!) from the sidelines reached over and took hold of their precious package, him being a good bit stronger than his twin because of his fencing lessons which required all sorts of muscle conditioning. While Wilbur would usually be gearing up to “fight” his brother for the right to carry the littlest member of their family, he was too busy doting on and coddling said child to care.

“-down! Let me down Techie!!” Tommy shouted, much quieter than usual due to having yelled enough to break a record earlier that day. “You’re a danger to society and yourself.” stated the pink haired 9-year-old, nodding sagely before hefting him up to get a more secure grip.

“Again- I’m so sorry, he’s been so worried all day, Jack Manifold was telling him earlier about cancer and other invisible diseases…” Dream rambled, Phil sighing with exasperation. Jack was beyond notorious in their family, countless occasions of false information sending the twins or Tommy home sobbing. He turned to look at his children, grinning fondly at the sight of a squirming Tommy trying to bat away Wilbur’s pokes and prods while Techno attempted to soothe him.

“Boys- I think we’d best head home. Your brother’s had a long day, and I don’t think it’ll matter too much for you two to miss the last two hours of today.” Phil said softly, leaning down to lift Tommy out of a reluctant Techno’s hold. Almost instantly, the ball of sunshine’s insistent yells that he was too big to be carried melted away as he relaxed into his Papa’s warm hold. Laughing quietly, Phil planted a kiss onto his forehead and watched as bright blue eyes slowly dropped shut, a content sigh leaving his youngest as they walked out of the clinic and to the car.

Within moments, the twins were seated on their respective sides of the backseat with Tommy’s carseat in the middle. Dream had waved goodbye, giving a quick hug to Tommy and ruffling the two third grader’s hair playfully. Phil sighed happily at the sight in the rearview mirror, messy blonde curls tipped back against the seat as he snored lightly. Techno on his right held one small warm hand, while Wilbur clung to the other. When they reached home, a quaint little two-story house painted red and white with plenty of windows, Techno and Wil unbuckled themselves and hopped out. Tommy yawned widely, wiping the drool off his chin and making grabby hands at their Dad.

“Hey, sunshine… enjoy your nap?” Phil teased, lifting him out of the car and bouncing him a little as he walked up past Techno’s vegetables and his wife’s flower garden. “Mmhm…” Tommy mumbled, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and tightening his hold on the green sweater Phil was wearing. Once inside Tommy was settled on the couch for a proper nap, Phil calling the schools to explain and then calling “Mumza” (neither of them had any idea how their children had picked up adding a -za to the end of everything) and chatting about the day's events for a bit.

When he emerged from the kitchen half an hour later, a wide smile and a cup of tea accompanying him- there on their well-loved green couch was Techno and Wilbur, curled protectively around the bundled up blonde all fast asleep. (Yes, many pictures were taken. Blackmail? Noooo never, family bonding.)

Later that evening when the family had eaten Phil’s famous spaghetti and meatballs, the kids all ready for bed in their room, (Wilbur on the top bunk and Techno on the bottom, while Tommy and his littler bed were tucked into the opposite corner.) Tommy looked up at his Father and quietly whispered out a sad little “Papa… ‘m sorry.” Phil’s heart promptly broke, and he could hear the rustle of bed covers as both twins hopped out of bed and raced over to comfort their brother.

“Toms, what’s wrong?” he asked. “You’ve got nothing to be sorry for baby…” Phil said softly, stroking the curls of gold framing his youngest’s face like an angel’s halo. Techno climbed up onto the bed by Tommy’s head, mumbling sweet nothings and leaning down to hug him. Wilbur, just as loving yet far less subtle- leaped onto Tommy and layed on top of him, obnoxiously peppering his face with kisses.

“Wilby!” the victim whined, a large grin betraying him as he pushed the brunette away. “Baby what’s wrong?” Wil asked, concern lacing his features. “That’s the thing!” the blonde scowled, turning away with a pout. “I was supposed to be a big boy today!! But I got so scared, and you just think I’m a baby…” his family stared down in shock at their little kindergartner, itching to smother him with love. “Oh, honey… You don’t need to be “big”. You’re our little ray of sunshine, now and always.” Phil whispered, pressing his forehead against the now crying littlest.
“Tommy… you’re the biggest man I know,” Techno mumbled fondly, face turning pink as he looked down at the spark which was often fire, curled up in a pile of soft blankets. “I’ve never met anyone bigger, ever,” Wilbur whispered, twisting some of the soft locks of hair around his finger. “You’ll just always be our baby, because we love you. And that means you’ll always be cared for and adored.” Phil stated, smiling softly down at the pile of kiddos lumped together.

“...You really mean that?” Tommy asked, eyes wide. “Yes.” three voices said in unison, dead serious but only full of love.

Tommy slept well that night. And every night after, for that matter. He knew he was the biggest man, but he didn’t have to be if he didn’t want to when he was surrounded by his family. Life was perfect, and there was so much to do. His Dad always reminded him to tie his shoes in the morning, after all- who has time to trip and fall when you’re a big man exploring the world. SMP kindergarten had better watch out, because here comes Tommy.
