Summary
"It’s just frightening. That someone would do that to another person, drug them so they lose control over their own body and become completely helpless. What kind of absolute scumbag goes in for that? There’s nothing acceptable in touching someone without their consent,” Gillian grimaced in disgust.
If Adam hadn’t already had Ronan in his line of sight, he would have missed it, it happened so fast.
(Or: an overheard conversation between Adam and one of his college friends leads to a difficult discussion, and to Ronan coming to terms with certain events in his past.)

Summary
He’s going to die, he thinks. He can’t believe that this is how he goes — drowning at the Bandee Community Pool on a busy January day. He can almost hear Hunter and Macca's laughs, and the humiliation seems to sink him further beneath the water.
Suddenly, he feels an arm wrap around his torso, yanking him upwards with ease.
Or:
Naim can’t swim. Ryan, a lifeguard at the Bandee Public Pool, makes it his mission to fix that. Naim cannot for the life of him understand why.

Summary
Firm but trembling arms enclosed Naim. Warm breath fanned his neck as Ryan spoke to him. He was crying now too, Naim could tell because Ryan’s cheek was damp against his skin.
“I forgave you the minute you left that car. I know you were scared. I was too.”
Ryan looked into Naim's eyes now. Ryan’s eyes were so blue and so beautiful even when they were red rimmed and glassy. His touch was soft as he swiped his thumbs across Naim's cheeks.
“But I was never scared of this, Naim.”
Just like the entity had told him at the door. Naim had believed him then. Would Ryan hurt him now? Take back his gentle words and break his heart again? Naim wouldn’t be able to survive it.
“I was only ever scared of losing you.”
OR Ryan and Naim's first night together after leaving town.
