Alhaitham’s brows furrow. For a second, Kaveh wonders if he’s finally managed to stump the great Acting Grand Sage. And then… “I’ll manage.”
A groan. “Of course you will.” Another fidget of his foot. “Were the wedding papers really necessary, though?”
… Perhaps he ought to explain that part, too.
Or, Kaveh reads a top-secret report on Alhaitham's desk and insists that they take matters into their own hands, which somehow leads to them signing marriage papers and going undercover in Mondstadt.

Summary
People always look at Alhaitham in different ways. He's grown used to it, accustomed to the myriad of emotions that he seems to inflict upon people. More often than not, it tends to be annoyance. Disdain. Confusion. His grandmother looks at him with love, though, and that is all Alhaitham has ever known on the subject of love and hate.
That is, until he's sixteen, and he's standing before the shredded remains of his—their—thesis, and there is an acrid taste at the back of his mouth and a burning in his eyes.
The first person who ever looks at Alhaitham with hatred is the one person he had wished never would.
Five times Kaveh says he hates Alhaitham, and the one time he actually says what he means.

"Joys?" Alhaitham deadpanned, making an adorable sound of discontent. "It was shit the first time. This time it's okay, because you're here."

Summary
Kaveh skids to a halt right in the middle of the room.
He thought he might find Al-Haitham here—it’s his favorite room after his bedroom—but he didn’t expect to find him sprawled out on the middle divan, legs stretched out leisurely and his head lolled to one side. His eyes are closed, his facial muscles so relaxed his mouth’s fallen open a sliver. Kaveh can see the pink of his tongue.
In his arms he’s cradling Mehrak.
Kaveh, Al-Haitham and Mehrak may not be the most typical family—but they are a family nonetheless. And, surprisingly enough, it turns out that having a semi-sentient toolbox as a pseudo-daughter can do wonders for a broken relationship.

“Well, what happened then? Surely something’s bothering you, or else you wouldn’t be moving your things back and forth in the same spot like that.”
Al-Haitham’s eyes drop to his hands, between them a box filled with little trinkets—souvenirs from his trips to the desert, no doubt, gleaming gem stones and jagged blocks of stone, the old runes on them barely legible from erosion. Al-Haitham sighs.
“Nothing happened,” he begins, slow and measured, “I’m just looking for something.”
The morning after their return to Sumeru City, Al-Haitham’s cover of nonchalance is blown for good.
