On the second week of the month, only the two of them will meet. Shadow will sit still, with his hands twitching in his lap as he fights to not react to the way Sonic’s lips press against his for just a few seconds.
----Sonic and Rouge get together once a month to relax, gossip and smoke their stress away. Sonic is eager for Shadow to participate in some much needed stress relief.
Or: Sonic teaches Shadow how to smoke and things escalate from there.

“You–” Shadow said, voice deep, deeper than Sonic remembered it being, “–said my name.”
Sonic felt his eyes go wide, mind stuttering to a stop. Shadow heard him? How? Did he not hang up the phone? His face went red, his whole body getting hot from embarrassment. He heard Sonic panting his name, begging for release, saying his name again and again. “Oh? Ya, just now,” Sonic had to play this off and had to get Shadow out of the house before he lost his mind.
(What if Shadow's written 'mine' on his upper thigh only in Sonic's mind?)

It’d been a month or so since…everything happened—and Sonic’s nightmares had shown no sign of granting him mercy. Sometimes he would jerk awake in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, gasping for breath; other times, his eyes would snap open and he would be gripping his blankets with trembling hands, as if his body wanted to reach out and save Shadow.
Today, he woke up feeling completely numb all over, his muzzle drenched from fresh tears. The morning sun was just barely rising over the horizon, streaks of light peeking through the circular window on the ceiling and bathing the floorboards of the attic in warm orange.
How cruel was it that mornings were so beautiful when Shadow couldn’t be here to see it?
OR: Shadow isn’t dead. Sonic just doesn’t realize it until he catches Shadow on the Wachowski’s security camera, sneaking into the house night after night.
