  1. Well, I mean, how would they know for sure? The point is that "consultants" weren't sent by Ao3, so they can't possibly know the full extent of who was contacted, for what. They wouldn't even know if you'd been contacted by such a scammer unless you reported it.

    1. Well, I assumed that Ao3 got to know about it from the people, who informed them about this issue.

      Anyway, due to the fact that the OP of the post linked below is from the Star Wars fandom, so I guess that both cases are connected with each other and it has to do something with this fandom specifically.

      1. They won't say who got sent the emails by those "consultants". It's a pretty standard thing on websites as, while we need to know about the problem, we don't necessarily need to know who was hit with it. Now, those who got sent said emails can volunteer the information themselves, nothing's stopping them. But the staff isn't going to do so.
