yeeeeeees and also nooooo. i really thought melshi was dead for a few sentences there before cassian got his shit together and didn't just leave him there. i love how you described this : 'the way the shadows pooled to make a pocket of darkness underneath what was visible of the eyes, the lines of a face Cassian hadn’t seen in years.' but of course cassian instantly knows him, he always knows ... :O also how you write melshi's particular brand of humor! can't wait for the rest of this, i hope they kiss ;)
Ahhhh bear, thank you so much for this lovely comment!!! I promise I would never kill a major character without copious warnings (and let's be honest: I'm probably not strong enough to kill Melshi anyway XD), but I am happy to hear that the threat of his death felt real. I really wanted to capture the dread and panic Cassian might feel in recognizing Melshi in a form that he's already imagined as dead (the simultaneous "it's you/you're dead"), and I'm very pleased to hear that came through (because yessssss Cassian would know Melshi anywhere: I believe this). <3<3<3 Thank you so much for reading, and I really hope the rest of the chapters feel satisfying!
