    Things I love about this chapter (except for "all of it"):

    - The way Narkina is always hanging over Melshi: the way shoes feel, the way he counts time (and then doesn't), the way his relationship to food has changed, "present"... it's not overbearing, but it's always so effectively there.

    - CASSIAN COOKING. And paranoid Cassian checking the herbs that HE PICKED.

    - Kay and Melshi bonding <3 They're both so pragmatic and I really enjoyed their interactions. And that it's about labour prisons - both perfect for their respective backgrounds, and for the first time we meet them together in Rogue One.

    - "Don't touch him" YES.

    - Honestly love Melshi just calling that guy a cunt over and over, like a true Scotsman.

      Ahhhhhhhhh thank you so much for this wonderful comment!!! This brought me such a surge of joy.

      One of the things I was excited to explore in this fic was how Cassian and Melshi have been coping (and in some cases not) in the time since Narkina, and I'm really happy that came through in Melshi's habits of thought and his first responses. And CASSIAN COOKING has become so important to me!!! I like the idea that it would be physically grounding and an expression of care, but also a place where he can refocus the anxiety he experiences elsewhere about not being able to control what he's taking into his body.

      And ahhhhh I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed the Kay and Melshi bonding: that means a lot from such a wonderful writer of Kay. I really enjoyed thinking about them as a team, with the complementary ways they've each been forced to learn about the Empire from within and with how sharp an eye they both have for what's making a system work. I'm so glad that worked for you.

      Drunk Melshi was a delight to write, and I'm SO PLEASED to hear the Scottish touches rang true (I worked *a lot* on that in this fic). And I loved the idea that Melshi's first instinct in the fight would be to stop anyone from aggressing or triggering Cassian any further, so I'm very happy the "Don't touch him" line landed for you.
