Yeah I am a bit of a voracious reader lol. I keep a Excel spreadsheet of every fic I read and how long it is and some notes on what I liked about it, and apparently in February this year I read 2.5 million words, a huge chunk of that being all of your stuff. And while, if I like something someone writes, I will usually go and check out their page and read a lot of the other stuff they've written, it's pretty rare for me to genuinely enjoy every single thing from an author. When I say that your writing has consumed me and has changed my perspective on some things in my own writing because of it, I mean it. I was worried that the comments were getting to be too much, but I just wanted to make my appreciation known, so I'm glad it wasn't annoying<3
One of the things I loved so much is that you don't baby your readers, and you're not afraid to leave loose threads. Like, not everything needs to be spelled out in bold font with a bow on top. You let the reader put the pieces together or not at their own pace for a lot of stuff, and I think with fic specifically, that's a rare thing to find sometimes.
Now that I've read everything, while it was all super enjoyable, I think Lemon Boy and Michelle.mp3 are the two that are lingering with me the most (followed by Peaches Ain't Pretty, but I'll get to that in a minute). I think the reason those two are sticking with me so much is that they both had this idea of being lost in life and moving to a new place and using home renovations as a metaphor for personal growth, and I LIVED THAT. Granted, the home I renovated wasn't in quite such disrepair, but still. after my divorce I loved cities to where my parents previous home was and I loved their while painting and fixing towel racks and dusting cobwebs and all that jazz, and it was a very personal experience for me while I was figuring a lot of stuff out and making a lot of mistakes. So thank you for writing those stories, because it helps remind me that experiences like that are more common/universal than it feels.
Peaches Ain't Pretty is what made me realize that I think I would enjoy anything you write, not just Spidey related stuff. Because ultimately it is only a hairs breadth away from being original fiction, but it was compelling and pulled at my emotions and I absolutely adore those two so much <3
Also, I'm going to have to go read that work now, per your suggestion. Because the Iron Legacy idea is gold and I'd love to see it's roots.
I did actually follow you on Tumblr after all of this because I want to be kept in the loop on your work. I've never been someone's beta reader before, so I'm not sure what kind of feedback you'd be looking for or if I'm the best person to give it, but I'd be willing to try. You're a fantastic writer and if I can do my part to help you get more words out into the universe and therefore more people to learn what I do, then I'm happy to help!
Comment on another time, a different place (I have loved you before)
