Comment on Team Technicolor

  1. welcome

I could argue you have a lot of leeway with Edelgard; the situation she was in previously was 'boarding school setting where I get into risky battles frequently with my fellow students; I have complicated long-term goals that I'm concealing from others; intrigue is going on constantly in the background'. Now she's in the exact same situation, except there are no stakes: none of her projects are at risk, no one she loves can be hurt, she's not going to get much blowback for not conforming to a certain role. It's like she gets a practice mode.

From there, a lot of her angst is derived from the hyper-specific context of Fodlan; there's less to hold her back from being open with others and intellectually curious without worries about status, religion, politics. RWBY doesn't have any monarchies, I believe, and they fought a war over self-expression; Plus her teammates have their own very specific political realities.

Also, I wrote that Aura question before I had read the next chapter where you firmly established that Aura is totally out of the question. I think that partly came from my anxiety over this kind of situation with characters where if they have little to show for it afterwards it's like an ' it was just a dream' sequence, like ' what was the point?'.... "Ah yes, I suppose I've grown massively as a person during my interdimensional journey. However, there's nothing to compensate me, eminent-domain style, for the massive opportunity cost regarding the very important things I was doing before I left."
