    More recently he has spoken against banning it. I'm not sure if he knows what TikTok actually is. Both parties seem to want it banned now, so it will probably happen no matter what he thinks.

      Oh, okay, I'm not really up to date on that matter (neither do I live in the U.S., nor do I use TikTok). If there's a bipartisan agreement on something, it's usually not that far away from happening, though. He's probably indeed unaware of what it actually is; that it's a tool coming from the PRC with the potential of farming personal information about its users will most certainly be a sufficient reason for him and many others to consider it an inherently bad thing. Not that I personally had any strong take on this (it doesn't concern me, as I said), but as someone else in these comments pointed out, it might still be a lot more reasonably motivated than what lawmakers in the UK, Australia and other places are going for. And even though there's presumably no impact on AO3 right now, we can never be sure as to what may come next ...

        Trump used X/Twitter and is a part owner of Truth Social. TikTok is basically video social media; TikTok is not the problem, it's what being done with the back-end data by its state-sponsored owners.
